Having just finished Horizon Zero Dawn the other day, I wanted to jump back into the Souls series, so I started playing Demon's Souls yesterday. Great game so far. The controls aren't as tight as in Bloodborne, but it's still pretty damn good. I guess that's just a thing with the Souls series, where you have to go through a first stage with a weak character before you can level up at all. Though that first stage is quite a bit easier in Demon's Souls than it was in Bloodborne, especially the boss fight. Maybe that's just what I have always heard from Souls players, that the first Souls game you play is always the hardest. It definitely seems to have aged pretty well considering this game was released in 2009.

8/10 imo.
Flawed enviromental designs.
But action wise, up there with Bayonetta 2.
Also as always Japanese people attempt at story telling is cribgeworthy.
I'm still playing Horizon zero dawm though. :lol
I tried out Baselinebum playstyle using the sharphooter bow.
Also I just noticed that the Drops from Horizon zero dawn depends on the Weapn you use..
I just got a 49 handling 12 freeze and damage modification from a thunderjaw.

Probably just laughing at the idea of a non-gamer knowing what is awesome and what isn't. But I get your point. I have friends who have shown amazement on what today's video games can do but dont really play outside of maybe a casual NBA2k game or FIFA/PES in a get together sometimes.
Video games today are way too awesome, but in a way rhe larger scale such as open world games have detered other potential gamers. Like when some Gamer says, the witcher 3 is lile 200 hours..doubt a non-gamer would be too excited to play a game that takes that much time invesment.

I'd invest on a PS4 tbh. Prior to playing horizon zero dawn..I proba ly avergaed around 3-4 hours a month. :lol
Think of it this way, when you go on a hiking trip or some other activities you might do twice a year..You're also investing a considerbale amount of money for an activity you would do for like maybe 10 hours a year.
My ps4 is more of a party and family play zone. Good to have for entertainment when options dry out. It saved me two years ago from a visiting cousin..Dude was trying to find a job, but I wasnt willig to take him out and Enjoy the city with him everyday. :lol...So i just made him play video games in days I didnt want to go out.
Plus you're loaded. Didn't you just buy a 480k house cash a couple years ago. Can only imagine the size of that house in texas. How do you even have the patience to manage a house like that as a single dude...
I'm actually a lot like DPG.
The only difference is that I do end up playing the games I buy.
I'm trying to break out of this habit. I've bought 10 or so brand new games going back to last year and I still haven't gotten around to playing them. They're just sitting there.
Once I start a game though I finish it. And often I would go 100% on that bitch.

I just have no desire to play games other than regular Nintendo a few times a year :lol. I get it, many of my friends play FIFA or other games a lot and I dont even mind watching while having a beer before we go out. But I get it.
I have a Wii, NES Classic and Xbox (the newest version) solely for entertaining. I never play them, but have them for my nieces/nephews for when they come to my house or for my friends when they do (or the occasional party where we bust out the Wii bowling or something).
No, I'm not loaded :lol. I do own a house, but it's not nearly that expensive and I certainly did not pay cash. Also, ive been with my live-in GF for 9 years so I'm not a single guy (just got engaged).

:lol so weird. Plus, my "I don't play comment" was just context for not knowing jack squat about gaming and what is actually a good game or not. I jus thought Zelda looked great and was surprised about the level of detail and thought you have to put into it to play it (like chopping down trees for fire wood, hunting for food, mapping things out, changing clothes based on environment).

I'm a little disappointed by Demon's Souls. Most of the game is really good (I'd probably rate it 8.5/10) but when I began the game and saw those two big dragons in the first level I thought those were going to be some epic fights. But the way to kill the red dragon is to cheese him with magic and he flies by over and over again and to kill the blue dragon you cheese him with arrows and then magic from safe areas. There are some cool boss fights but those two sucked. I can't think of any fights in Bloodborne where you could just cheese like that, much less where that was the way you were supposed to do it. Taking out the ranged combat in Bloodborne was definitely a great move.

Just getting ready to start Dark Souls now. So far the hardest part has been trying to get my 360 controller to sync up with my PC. Apparently Microsoft hires monkeys who wrote a driver for the wireless adapter that is compatible with only USB 2.0. Shit synced right away when I plugged it into a powered USB 2.0 port but absolutely refused to when plugged into a powered USB 3.0 port. I hope Gates dies of AIDS and Ballmer is buried alive in Bill's casket.

Damn it's annoying that Dark Souls renders at an internal resolution of 720p and renders at 30 fps no matter what settings you set for it. I might as well be playing this on PS3, my fucking 970 doesn't even need to turn its fans on while playing this. The Dark Souls fix that allows you to render at a higher native resolution and at 60 fps brings this horrible tear line at the bottom of the screen so it's actually better to play at the default PS3 level settings. :pctoss

I see you saw today's Easter Sale. :lol
Uncharted is definitely a series to play in order. I like that every sequel is better than the previous game too, though many people consider Uncharted 2 to be the highpoint of the series. Uncharted 4 is extremely impressive graphically. Like I couldn't believe the scrub ass PoorStation 4 could put out graphics like that, even at 30 fps. When PS5 comes out I can't wait to get a 60 fps remaster of Uncharted 4. Funny enough you can actually see what Uncharted 4 at 60 fps would look like by playing in slow motion mode at 30 fps, capturing the video, and doubling the speed to get 60 fps video. The Digital Foundry youtube channel did it and it looks stunning. I won't post the video though since I don't want to give away any spoilers.
For anyone who has a PS4 and hasn't played Uncharted 1-3, that shit is $8 today on PS Store for the package of all three remasters.

OK, so I'm a dumbass, Iron Golem in Dark Souls is easy as hell if you do quick slashes at his feet to knock him over. I was doing two hand power attacks, which were really effective taking out Tower Knight's ankles in Demon's Souls.
I'm starting to get the feeling armor is pretty useless in Dark Souls just like it was in Bloodborne. E.g., you should just wear the lightweight armor you think looks the coolest. I never even bothered to see if armor mattered in Demon's Souls since that game was so much easier than Dark Souls or Bloodborne.

Gotta say Dark Souls is much better than Demon's Souls but not quite as good as Bloodborne IMO. So far I'd give it probably a 9.5/10 (I have Bloodborne 10/10, Demon's Souls 8/10). Thankfully I figured out how to make dsfix work properly for 60 fps gaming: you set a target framerate of 65 fps in the dsfix ini file and then force vsync through the Nvdia Control Panel to get a locked 60 fps. The only downside is it fucks with the physics a bit, so some jumps can't be done when running at 60 fps. Thankfully dsfix lets you switch between 30 fps and 60 fps by hitting the backspace key.

Just beat Dark Souls 1 and I'm definitely going to come back and play a NG+ on it some time. Ornstein and Smough has to be the best boss battle I have ever played in a game. It's definitely not as hard as beating Orphan of Kos in Bloodborne but it's still pretty damn difficult sniping quick hits at Ornstein while simultaneously trying to keep a column between you and the big ass hammer Smough chases you with. Magnus and the Knight of Artorius are pretty difficult fights too. From made the final boss too easy though. He kicked my ass the first three times I fought him when I was trying to circle around to attack from behind and his attacks are really hard to dodge. But since he was so aggressive I figured I'd try parrying and that made the fight super easy. Still, amazing game that I'd give a 9.5/10 to.

Get the GOTY edition if you can, as both DLC are outstanding. Witcher 3 is significantly larger than even Skyrim, and it's extremely impressive graphically (especially the lighting). The combat is really satisfying too, you can cut people in half or chop their heads off. Also learn how to play Gwent at the beginning. It seems kind of stupid at first but it ends up being a really interesting game to play with everyone you run into. I can't recommend the game highly enough. And it will keep you busy for months.

Oh shit... that game was fun, but I never beat it. Do you have to take specific characters to finish the game, or can you do it with any of them?

You can beat it straight thru with almost any combo of characters (Meteor Police ending). But using specific characters with specific items will give different endings. Using the script writer to fix Weird Ed's manuscript brokers a friendship and he will help you eliminate the meteor and using either of the musicians to record a demo tape will help you befriend the tentacle and he will beat up the purple tentacle who tries to keep you from the Dr. and the meteor.
It's like Metal Gear Solid in all the various ways you can eliminate the meteor. Such a fun game. The creator made an XBox 360 game that was free with Gold last month, called the Cave. Same premise, puzzle solving action game with a group of three people with different powers. Seemed a little like Abe's Odyssey, but still a fun game with a lot of MM feel to it.

Gonna have to download MM and play it again. That game was way past it's time with all the different gameplay options it had. I never owned it, I rented it from Blockbuster or something several times and never got around to beating it.

What do you think of Horizon Zero Dawn so far? To me it feels so much like a Far Cry game but in third person, but better graphically with more interesting fights and a better storyline than any Far Cry games (and I'm a big fan of the series). The game does feel super easy though after playing a bunch of Souls games this year. :lol
I've never played the Far Cry games, but HZD feels like a linear game in open world's clothes. The world, while beautiful and large, is super static. There's almost nothing to do if you aren't questing. I do like the story and gameplay, but I'm having a hard time staying interested. Some mini games, crafting, player customization, random encounters, or something would go a long way to flesh the experience out.

A lot of open world games are like that. What would you do in Witcher 3 aside from sidequests if you're not on the main quest? Not many open world games are GTA where half the fun is driving around and starting shootouts with the cops.

Eh... From Gwent, to whorehouses, barbers, horse racing, fist fighting, different types of merchants, day/night NPC cycles, a shitload more story characters to interact with, different types of quests to obtain new gear, different outcomes from your interactions, etc... the world of Witcher 3 feels more "alive" than HZD.

Man 2017 is such a ridiculously great year for gaming. You already have four absolute classics in Zelda BOTW, Horizon Zero Dawn, Nioh, and NieR Automata that could each win GOTY in many years (each of them would have probably been the GOTY if released in 2016 or 2014, for example). And then Persona 5 sounds like it belongs in that same class too. Then you have Red Dead Redemption 2, Middle Earth Shadow of War, and Super Mario Odyssey slated for release. Next add a couple of really interesting indie games in Cuphead and Rime that look like they'll get 2017 releases and this year just keeps looking better and better. Sadly God of War looks like it's going to be a 2018 release, but Bethesda sounds like they have a new Wolfenstein coming.

I mean they enjoyed the game a lot 10/10 9/10...but would be disappointed with no NG+ option or any post story content.

I started playing NBA playgrounds. Im torn- Its a poor man's NBA street, the execution is bad (including cringeworthy commentary), but on the other hand it has big rosters including old timers and multiple versions of players (for ex, you can use Milwaukee ray Allen or Miami ray Allen). Haven't unlocked a lot of players yet, but so far it looks like they fucked up the Spurs: saw drob, iceman, then Lma and gasol with only one other mystery (locked) player who I guess must be kawhi, which means none of the big 3 are in but Aldridge and pau are :vomit
Wish someone would make a fun casual NBA game like this, if you like basketball it's worth a rental but overall, disappointing.

I'm warming up a bit to Nioh. I was focusing too much on combat skills while ignoring magic, which is fine in the early game but makes the mid to late game really hard. After building up some magic skills the difficulty feels fair again. It's still a tough game but nowhere near what it was when I wasn't investing anything into magic.

It's much easier thus far, although Blightown was frustrating. I can only imagine playing DS1 back in the day... would have been a rude awakening. But it's much slower than DS3 and so far I've been able to do good work, most bosses have been fairly easy (as far as DS bosses go).
That said, the level design is mostly superior. There are a couple of really strange choices that seem disjointed or poorly designed but other than that it's brilliant.

I didn't think Blighttown was bad at all in Dark Souls 1. I thought it was much easier than the second part of the Valley of Defilement in Demon's Souls (though Dark Souls 1 was a much tougher game overall than Demon's Souls IMO).
Did you ever play Dark Souls 2? I'm not sure if I want to play Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin (I heard it's better than the vanilla DS2) or DS3 after I'm done with Nioh.

You recruit characters with their own storyline connected to the main story. There's 108 characters so some are flesed out than others, but it's the game that introduced me to Side-Quest...
It was fun doing some of those side story quest and Choosing what characters to recruit..

everyone always says MGSV is super good but i picked it up and got bored after the first couple hours. though that may be because i never played the previous ones.
It's the first open world Metal Gear and it was during a fallout with Kojima and Konami. It's suprisingly good considering the circumstances, but I can see a lot of fans being pissed off it that is went away from its episodic story mode.

I played the OG on Nintendo when I was like 10 :lol Even the shitty tiger handheld shit... Only one I haven't played is Peacewalker and the Acid stuff on Vita or whatever. MGS3 will always be my favorite with MGS2 in a close second place. Ground Zeroes is laughably short but they added a lot of side content afterwards for the irate fan base. It's basically a demo for MGS5.
MGS2 was great but surprised you have it over the original. The original is what made Mg's mainstream and boy at that time it felt like it was a completely new game.

Yeah that's fair. I do feel like at the time of release and the couple of years that followed MGS 1 had more positive hype and recognition than 2 but like you said it hasn't aged well. In fairness to MGS1, that game was on the ps1

2017 is such a ridiculously good year for PS4 in comparison to XBone. Horizon Zero Dawn, NieR Automata, Nioh, Persona 5, Yakuza 0 vs what, Halo Wars 2? XBone had some really nice console exclusives in 2016 with Forza Horizon 3, Quantum Break, and Gears of War 4, but damn they're getting wrecked for 2017 so far and their only upcoming exclusive that looks interesting to me is Ori and the Will of the Wisps. (and that's probably a 2018 release since they didn't provide a release date in their E3 trailer) Though to be fair I am playing NieR on PC. But man, not a good year to be an XBox gamer.

The biggest complaint I have about it is that it sends your enemies airborne making it extremely difficult to pull ridiculous combos against a collection of enemies.
It's basically break from action + healing. The trigger should always add to gameplay not limit it.

What do you think of RiME? I was really looking forward to the game a few months ago when I first saw previews of it, but the reviews have not been kind. Man Unravel looks like a lot of fun. I bought that months ago when it went on sale for $5 but haven't played it yet.

Told you it's an awesome game. Story is quirky but its the gameplay that makes it awesome. One of the better ps4 games tbh and for 40 bucks...Just an incredible deal.
You won't regret playing R&C...
Yeah man it's pretty killer. Now I'm glad I bought that pack of PS2 remasters when it was on sale for $10 a couple of weeks ago, but wish I would have bought the entire Future series too now (I only picked up Tools of Destruction).

Can't remeber what game I didn't particularly like in the ps2 days for r&c. I was way too young to remeber but i think it was the third game. I was also going back and forth betweem R&C and Jack and Daxter.
Tools of destruction is a legit 8.5 game. Not at the same level as the remaster but it has some.decent additions.
Still the same.fun game though. I remeber goong through multiple playthroughs just using different weapons.

Rime is well done. Looks like a Zelda kind of game... the thing is, it would be much more enjoyable if you're in the mood for exploring, which I was not. So I did the main story and moved on. You can play the whole game in a 5 hour session, I guess... didn't feel super long.

The sheepnator/Goatnator is the GOAT weapon for the remastered though. Literally turns enemies into Goats and sheeps :lol
Or if you wanna play on easy the Rhyno...:lol
