764,000 lost money on Trump meme coins, while 58 profited

Days before he was inaugurated for a second term, President Trump launched a meme coin brandishing the words “fight, fight, fight." But most of those who invested in it might feel like giving up.

Of the 2 million accounts that have purchased the $TRUMP coin, 764,000 have lost money on it, according to data that blockchain analysis firm Chainalysis shared with CNBC. Most invested in smaller amounts of the token, the media outlet reported.

Fifty-eight accounts — known as crypto "wallets" — made more than $10 million apiece, totaling roughly $1.1 billion in profits, per CNBC.

Around 54,000 wallets have bought the coin since the promotion began, according to CNBC. Bloomberg reports that more than half of the top holders used foreign exchanges, suggesting they are based outside the U.S.

CNBC reports the Senate’s Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations is investigating the token’s ownership structure and revenue model — as well as World Liberty Financial, a crypto business Trump is affiliated with — to determine whether they pose a direct conflict.

Federal agencies charged with investigating crypto firms and enforcing rules have been stripped, and cases against top crypto firms including Coinbase, Ripple and others have been dropped.

Trump issued an executive order and created a task force to boost the industry, appointed a crypto advocate as head of the regulatory agency that oversees crypto and proposed a "strategic crypto reserve" for the government to purchase and hold digital tokens.

On Truth social, he described it as a meme coin, meaning it had no inherent value. It was just there for the kind of bleeps and giggles. The price spiked to a trading value of nearly $13 billion dollars making it the 19th most valuable cryptocurrency on planet Earth. And then it proceeded to plummet, like, really, really dive.

The project allegedly netted people associated with it, meaning the Trump organizations associated with the Trump crypto, some $350 million. 80% of the outstanding supply of that meme coin is still held by insiders, presumably members of the Trump Organization. Overall, according to data shared with CNBC, there were 2 million wallets that that bought that Trump meme coin. 764,000 of them lost money. 58 wallets made more than $10 million bucks.

And then in April, that Trump meme coin announced that the top 220 holders of the meme coin would would be invited to an intimate private dinner with President Trump at his golf club. The top 25 were invited to a VIP White House tour. According to Bloomberg News, 19 of the top 25 holders of that Trump meme coin that have registered on the website's leaderboard have bought the coins using foreign exchanges that claim to exclude US customers, which means that foreigners are buying a lot of meme coin and then getting meetings with President Trump, like VIP White House tours and all the rest.

This raises the question of influence peddling. If you basically buy a bunch of Trump meme coin and and then funnel money to organizations associated with President Trump so you can have dinner with Trump. That doesn't look great. Democratic senators, of course, immediately announced that they wanted an ethics probe. They sent a letter saying, quote, this latest action raises grave ethics and legal concerns, including the severe risk that President Trump and other officials may be engaging in pay-to-play corruption by selling presidential access to individuals or entities to include foreign nationals and corporate actors with vested interest in federal action while personally enriching the president and his family.

That might be overstated, but let's be clear, some people do seem to be investing in the Trump meme coin for the access. I mean, there was literally a CEO of a company called Freight Technologies that just bought $20 million dolars worth of Trump meme coin, which I gotta say is not like the most solid investment. What was the explanation quote? We believe the addition of the official Trump tokens are an excellent way to diversify our crypto treasury and also an effective way to advocate for fair, balanced, and free trade between Mexico and The United States. It's like to impact policy. Again, not the least skeezy thing I've ever heard.

Now listen. Maybe all of this is overblown. Maybe it's all nonsense. Maybe some of it's not true. And I understand some of it's being reported by legacy media outlets. But, again, here is the question: Does any of this help advance the president's agenda? You know the agenda that we all voted for, the agenda we want to see implemented. Does this make his presidency stronger or weaker? Now I'm gonna repeat again, I don't know whether this activity is criminal in any way, but things do not have to be criminal to hurt the agenda.

If you want President Trump's agenda to succeed, taking jets from Qatar is not the way. Taking real estate deals from Qatar is not the way. The largest obstacle to any administration is scandal. From Watergate to Whitewater, scandal-plagued administrations have a really tough time gathering the political capital necessary to actually effectuate their agenda. And that's why it's unbelievably important that the Trump administration avoid scandal. That is the reason I am worried about this stuff.

Yes, I think inherently it is bad. I do not think this is good. I think if we switch the names to Hunter Biden and Joe Biden, we'd all be freaking out on the right.

The Qatar B-747 was built in the US by Boeing. They are offering a newer 747 to replace one of the two current AF-1s that have been flying for 40 years. Which are tired and need to be replaced. The wing based at Andrews has also purchased aircraft from other countries in the past which are currently flying our VP and senior government officials. This is NOT new.

Qatar is offering the jet to the US military, not Donald Trump. The DOD contractor is based in the US, in fact my dad (a retired Air Force general) used to work for them. They are, not unironically, also working to upgrade the FAA technology as we speak. You know, Newark and elsewhere. They will get the aircraft and perform all of the security and the installation of the systems that AF-1 requires to safely move our president around the world. Not the Qatari’s. And you and I will pay for that but not the $400 million the 747 would normally cost. I could tell you exactly what is required to modify the AF-1 for safe flight but that is Top Secret and I’d have to kill you.

This AF-1 will serve the sitting president, whether they be Republican or Democrat until Boeing gets their shit together to complete the new, upcoming improved 747s that started under Obama, was renegotiated under Trump, and was completely ignored by the Biden administration. It’s looking like 2029 to 2030 for delivery at the soonest.

The biggest problem with the tax cuts in what Mr. Trump likes to call the “one big, beautiful bill,” which is moving to a vote in the House of Representatives, is that they are, well, big. Congress levies taxes not because it’s fun to do so but because they are needed to pay for the level of spending the nation has chosen to undertake. That spending is currently about $2 trillion per year higher than what taxes generate, and the new law would widen the gap with cuts in revenue that dwarf any of the proposed cuts in spending.

The House bill (https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/15/us/politics/house-gop-tax-bill-trump.html) is estimated by Congress’s nonpartisan Joint Committee on Taxation to lower tax revenue by $3.8 trillion over 10 years, but even that eye-popping figure understates its likely cost. But there is no doubt that four years from now, the bill’s supporters would be back pushing to extend the cuts and claiming there would be no cost to doing so because they would already be in place. Between now and then, the uncertainty about the outcome would make it harder for businesses to plan and invest. And if the push would succeed, it would bring the total cost of the tax cuts to over $5 trillion.

Either way, taxes would fall far short of what Congress spends, even with the Medicaid cuts that the House favors. The result would be trillions of dollars in deficits, driving the debt as a share of G.D.P. on an even steeper and less sustainable upward trajectory.

The White House has removed official transcripts of President Donald Trump’s public remarks from its government website, replacing them with selected videos of his public appearances.

As recently as Sunday, transcripts of Trump’s speeches and comments were still showing up in the “Remarks” section (https://web.archive.org/web/20250517233039/https:/www.whitehouse.gov/remarks/) of WhiteHouse.gov. The next day, they were gone, snapshots of the site (https://web.archive.org/web/20250519194921/https:/www.whitehouse.gov/remarks/) from an internet archive show. The only transcript appearing now is of Trump’s inaugural address on Jan. 20.

Government stenographers are still recording and transcribing Trump’s remarks, a White House official said. But in an internal policy change in recent days, the White House took down the transcripts in favor of audio and video of his appearances.

The idea behind the move is that people will get a fuller and more accurate sense of Trump by watching and listening to him as opposed to reading a transcript, which they may not be inclined to do anyway, the official said. Purging the transcripts and switching to audio and video of Trump's remarks was intended to create "consistency" across the website, the official said.

The proposed SNAP cuts would largely happen by expanding work requirements to qualify for benefits and by cutting federal funding for food benefits and administration and leaving it up to states to make up the difference.

The largest cut (https://www.cbpp.org/research/food-assistance/by-the-numbers-house-republican-reconciliation-bill-takes-food-assistance) to SNAP would come from federal funding cuts to basic SNAP benefits ranging from 5% to 25% starting in 2028, according to CBPP.

It would then be up to states to find ways to make up for that benefit shortfall, which could include making it more difficult to enroll in the program or finding other localizedcuts to the program, according to CBPP.

“The change in the bill that is most dramatic is asking states to share part of the benefit cost,” Waxman said. “That’s new; since SNAP was originated, the federal government has always paid the full cost of the benefits.”

Notably, it would also mark the first time in the history of SNAP that the federal government would no longer ensure children in every state have access to food benefits, according to CBPP.

The ICE seizure came without warning after a case worker and attorney assured the couple that her appeal of a denied asylum status ruling would prevent her deportation and apprehension, Richard said.

Richard, a slight, soft-spoken 26-year-old, recounted the story of Daniela’s apprehension from the living room of his mother’s Marietta home May 21. He has avoided his apartment since Daniela was taken because of the painful memories, his mother said.

“It's been grueling. It's been horrifying. For my wife, it's been torturous,” Richard said, tears welling in his eyes. “It's very painful.”

What to Know

The poll, conducted by the Harvard University Center for American Political Studies and HarrisX, found that a slim majority of Americans now view the economy as strong.

Fifty-one percent of respondents said they view the economy as strong, while 49 percent view it as weak. While this represents a small majority, it is the first time more Americans than not view the economy a strong since July 2021, according to the pollster.
