Are you saying they have none, Chris?
I'm saying that if you're white, you have no business applying. I think they should fire all the whites as well.

shithole countries, and now shithole states, so PRESIDENTIAL
Trump Slips Again, Names His “8 Crappiest States” In Meeting With U.S. Governors
President angers many with vulgar characterizations and boorish remarks about their home states
he wants Congress to withhold federal funds earmarked for infrastructure spending,
calling it “a waste of valuable tax dollars on America’s eight biggest loser states, and
most of you know who you are.”
Mr. Trump’s
crude appraisal of the eight states has the White House reeling,
at first denying that the president ever made the controversial remarks,
then saying he spoke them during a vivid daydream and was therefore not responsible,
finally blaming the tasteless assertions on the administration’s fall girl, Kellyanne Conway,
who the president said
had recently been “mimicking me in meetings and throwing my voice.”

Funny satire. Sad that one has to read more than a little way into it, to figure out it is satire.

a year into his presidency, Trump has tightly tethered himself to that same Republican establishment and all but outsourced his agenda to its leaders in Congress.
Too lazy to read, he is hoping others do the heavy lifting for him.
What is funny is that the low-approval president is giving the lower approval Congress charge of his legacy. I wonder how that will work out. :rollin

Holy shit, let's check in on that War on Opiods.
Trump has pledged to marshal federal government talent and resources to address the opioid crisis, but nearly a year after his inauguration, the drug policy office, known as ONDCP, lacks a permanent director. At least seven of his administration’s appointees have departed, office spokesman William Eason said. Among them was the general counsel and acting chief of staff, some of whose duties were assumed by Weyeneth, according to a memo obtained by The Washington Post.
“ONDCP leadership recognizes that we have lost a few talented staff members and that the organization would benefit from an infusion of new expert staff,” said the Jan. 3 memo from acting director Richard Baum, a civil servant. “The functions of the Chief of Staff will be picked up by me and the Deputy Chief of Staff.”
Don't worry, they got, like this dude to, you know, get right on it, as Deputy Chief of Staff at the Office of National Drug Control Policy

NOT.
Leaving the Boy Wonder as second in command at an office with a $368 million budget. Prior ONDCP Deputies have had legal and policy degrees and work experience in law enforcement and public health. But don’t worry, because Taylor has a BS in “Legal Studies.” Plus, he had a relative who died of an overdose, and it “really affected him.” So we’re in good hands. The Trump administration cares deeply about the 20 million Americans with substance abuse issues and the 52,000 overdose deaths every year in this country. Help is on the way, West Virginia!

“I’m not a big fan of New Jersey right now. I should have gotten a lot more support from Jersey in my historic election. I’m pretty sure I got screwed by the Obama-hugger, Corpus Christie.
Utah ... a shithouse, too. Notice I didn’t say shithole, I said shithouse. That’s a big difference. It’s a shithouse because Mitt ‘The Twit’ is from Utah. And a lot of other Mormons. Someone told me Mormons are allowed to fuck a lot of women all at once.
Georgia is called the Peach State, am I right, Governor Deal? Okay, but you know what else I call it?—?the Black State. Because my staff told me that more Negro people live in Georgia than anyplace else in America!
“Let’s see a hand from the governor of New Hampshire. Hold it up high, sir. Okay, I’m looking for needle tracks on that forearm because we all know you’re a bunch of heroin addicts and opi-idiots in New Hampshire which is causing me a lot of headaches.
“I want to say a few words about Alabama. Governor Kay Ivey, where are you? Okay, a woman. Whatever. So I know you are a red state, and we should be friends, but your people haven’t been nice to me.
“A lot of people are going to be surprised when I say this, but New York turned to crap the minute I left it.
I had to ask my people, why is New Mexico, sandwiched by ruby red states like Arizona and Texas, not also red? They told me that there are a lot of Mexicans living there, from Mexico, which is why they call it ‘New’ Mexico. Get it, they’re storming the border and taking over!
“I’m so pissed at Nevada right now, I want to scream out ‘SHITHOUSE,’ but there are Democrats in the room who will tattletale. But, let me be honest, Nevada is pretty much my #1 loser state.

The Cost of Corruption: Waste and Abuse in President Trump’s Cabinet
Since taking office less than a year ago, President Donald Trump has created the most corrupt administration in modern American history.
He has used his position to enrich (https://www.politico.com/story/2017/04/24/state-department-us-embassy-mar-a-lago-237537)himself (https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/trump-dc-hotel-turns-2-million-profit-in-four-months/2017/08/10/23bd97f0-7e02-11e7-9d08-b79f191668ed_story.html?utm_term=.553e476680b9) and his family (http://www.mcclatchydc.com/news/nation-world/article192131074.html), filled his administration with former industry lobbyists (https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/trump-lobbyists-ethics-waivers_us_58f43e1fe4b0b9e9848cc6c4), and sought to prevent an investigation (https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/19/us/politics/trump-interview-transcript.html) into his shady business practices.
The American people have noticed. Not only do most Americans believe President Trump has broken his promise (https://www.politico.com/story/2017/05/24/poll-trump-drain-the-swamp-238774) to combat corruption,
they also view the Trump administration as the most corrupt (http://www.newsweek.com/trump-flynn-kushner-ivanka-corruption-ethics-744701)government institution in the United States.
The corruption is broader than just the President and his family. President Trump has assembled the wealthiest (https://www.forbes.com/sites/chasewithorn/2017/07/05/the-4-3-billion-cabinet-see-what-each-top-trump-advisor-is-worth/#47b776475dfc) and least experienced Cabinet (https://www.npr.org/2016/12/28/506299885/how-the-donald-trump-cabinet-stacks-up-in-3-charts) in recent memory. Unsurprisingly, the president’s senior leadership has taken cues from their boss: While arguing for devastating cuts (https://handsoff.org/) to services that millions of Americans depend on, several Cabinet members have engaged in extravagant—and at times legally questionable—spending on themselves at the taxpayer’s expense.
based on public information to date, the Cabinet has spent nearly $2 million on questionable flights and private office upgrades.

Trump Organization Minting Money On Ethically Dubious Deals
When not desperately auctioning off access (https://shareblue.com/desperate-for-tenants-trump-building-auctions-off-meeting-with-his-family/) to the president’s family, the Trump Organization is still finding other ethically questionable ways to cash in on Donald Trump’s presidency.
an “alarming … array of interest groups trying to cozy up to Trump by spending money at his properties.”
While several of Trump’s properties are losing business, including golf courses (https://shareblue.com/trump-golf-course-a-huge-failure-as-business-drops-500-percent-below-national-average/) and hotels in New York (http://money.cnn.com/2017/12/20/news/trump-soho-dominick-hotel/index.html) and Toronto (http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2017/06/27/toronto-trump-tower-to-be-renamed-under-new-deal_a_23004041/), there are some properties that are seeing an influx of activity.
“Donald Trump entered office with the most blatant and potentially corrupting conflicts of interest in the history of American politics, and things only got worse from there,”
“Business is booming at the Trump International Hotel in D.C., not because of the décor, but because corporations and foreign governments want to curry favor with the president.”
The National Mining Association and Chamber of Commerce have plunked down bags of money at Trump properties, even though (or perhaps because) they have substantial policy interests that can be addressed by the executive branch.
executives and wardens from GEO Group, which runs private prisons, “gathered for four days of meetings, dinner receptions and golf outings at the luxurious 800-acre Trump National Doral,
GEO group — which also gave $225,000 to a pro-Trump super PAC and $250,000 to Trump’s inaugural committee — “secured the administration’s first contract for an immigration detention center, a deal worth tens of millions a year.”
Members of Congress are also among those hoping to buy favorable treatment from Trump. More than 30 political candidates or political organizations are listed
In a chicken-and-egg type quandary,
it is unclear whether Trump’s rampant corruption is driving his unpopularity at home and abroad (https://shareblue.com/global-approval-of-american-leadership-plunges-18-points-under-trump/), or
if his unpopularity is forcing him to turn to rampant corruption to make a buck.
Whatever the case may be,
Trump’s conflicts of interest raise unprecedented ethical, legal, and national security concerns that must be addressed.

The man-child in the White House reels wildly out of control
No one should feel sorry for those who choose to aid and abet this travesty of an administration.
They made their choices.
They elected to trust a man they know to be wholly untrustworthy, and to lie shamelessly to massage his swollen ego.
we effectively do not have a presidency at all.
As McConnell noted (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2018/01/17/sen-mitch-mcconnells-passive-aggressive-dig-at-trump/?utm_term=.337cf7af463f) in frustration Wednesday,
he can’t orchestrate passage of an immigration bill unless he knows what Trump is willing to sign.
Likewise,
Ryan can’t pass spending legislation unless he knows what Trump will and will not accept.
But the president has no fixed positions.
His word is completely unreliable.
How are congressional leaders supposed to do their jobs?
Trump is incapable of growing into the job; if anything, he is becoming more erratic.

California AG: 'We will prosecute' employers who violate sanctuary laws
http://a57.foxnews.com/images.foxnews.com/content/fox-news/us/2018/01/19/california-ag-will-prosecute-employers-who-violate-sanctuary-laws/_jcr_content/par/featured_image/media-0.img.jpg/931/524/1516342385541.jpg?ve=1&tl=1
California Attorney General Xavier Becerra warned employers Thursday of legal repercussions if they assist federal immigration officials in an impending crackdown in the sanctuary state, The Sacramento Bee reported.
Under a new state law – the Immigration Worker Protection Act – employers and businesses could face fines of up to $10,000 if they provide employee information to U.S. Immigration Customs, Becerra said.
If employers “start giving up information about their employees or access to their employees in ways that contradict our new California laws, they subject themselves to actions by my office. We will prosecute those who violate the law,” he said at a news conference.
The law prevents workers of any immigration status from being detained at workplaces. Among other stipulations, federal officials must obtain a warrant before searching a worksite and employers are required to notify their workers before a federal audit of employee records.
Becerra said the Department of Justice and the Labor Commission’s office – which hold exclusive authority over enforcement – will give “guidance” to public and private employers on their responsibilities under the new law.
The warning comes amid rumors of mass sweeps that will target illegal immigrants in Northern California. Under California’s sanctuary laws, local police are restricted from cooperating with federal immigration authorities.
Upon hearing the rumors, local jurisdictions in Northern California said they hadn’t been notified by federal officials of any impending raids.
ICE’s acting director, Thomas Homan told Fox News earlier this month, “If the politicians in California don’t want to protect their communities, then ICE will.”

Socialist California, Not Mississippi, Now Poverty Capital of America
If you’ve spent any time on your liberal relatives’ news feeds, you’ve probably seen a meme or five noting how Mississippi — a state where residents overwhelmingly vote Republican — is the most poverty-stricken state in America.
Of course, this meme ignores historical factors as well as the very salient fact that the Democrats, until relatively recently, treated Dixie as their own private fiefdom. However, all of those memes can now go away, because there’s a new poverty capital of these United States.
This time, America’s poverty capital is a state that’s had a history of wealth, both in terms of human capital and natural resources. It’s where several of our biggest industries — including defense and tech — have been based. It was a place where many people went in the 20th century to seek their fortunes. And yet, after the state turned into the most liberal — dare we say socialist? — place in America, it also became our country’s epicenter of economic misery.
Ladies and gentlemen, I present your new poverty capital: California.
“California — not Mississippi, New Mexico, or West Virginia — has the highest poverty rate in the United States,” the Los Angeles Times notes in a Jan. 14 piece by Kerry Jackson.
“According to the Census Bureau’s Supplemental Poverty Measure –which accounts for the cost of housing, food, utilities, and clothing, and which includes noncash government assistance as a form of income — nearly one out of four Californians is poor.”
So, why are Californians so poor? After all, job and GDP growth is good, although most of that is based around the tech sector. Part of it, Jackson argues, is that “state and local bureaucracies that implement California’s antipoverty programs … resisted pro-work reforms” that began in the 1990s to get people off of welfare.
“It’s not as if California policymakers have neglected to wage war on poverty, Sacramento and local governments have spent massive amounts in the cause, for decades now. Myriad state and municipal benefit programs overlap with one another; in some cases, individuals with incomes 200 percent above the poverty line receive benefits, according to the California Policy Center,” Jackson writes.
“Unfortunately, California, with 12 percent of the American population, is home today to roughly one in three of the nation’s welfare recipients. The generous spending, then, has not only failed to decrease poverty; it actually seems to have made it worse,” Jackson continued.
“It’s as though welfare reform passed California by, leaving a dependency trap in place. Immigrants are falling into it: 55% of immigrant families in the state get some kind of means-tested benefits, compared with just 30% of natives.”
Other reasons for California being the new capital of poverty? Californians spent 30 percent of their income on housing in 2015, in part because of government regulations around land use and the environment.
“Counties and local governments have imposed restrictive land-use regulations that drove up the price of land and dwellings,” analyst Wendell Cox said. “Middle-income households have been forced to accept lower standards of living while the less fortunate have been driven into poverty by the high cost of housing.”
That’s not the only place where the state’s exigent environmental regulations have hurt the middle class and poor. Some estimates have energy prices at 50 percent more than the national average due mostly to regulations.
RELATED: Top Tech Co. Goes All in on Trump’s America, Announces $350 Billion Investment
“In 2012, nearly 1 million California households faced ‘energy poverty’ — defined as energy expenditures exceeding 10 percent of household income. In certain California counties, the rate of energy poverty was as high as 15 percent of all households,” read a 2015 Manhattan Institute study titled “Less Carbon, Higher Prices” authored by Jonathan A. Lesser.
And things are only poised to get worse: “By 2020, California will require that one-third of electricity consumed in the state be generated from renewable sources,” the study read. “California households’ electricity prices have risen as a result of the state’s renewable-energy mandates and carbon cap-and-trade program — and will likely continue to rise at an even faster rate in coming years.”
The great irony at work here is that this has been the Democrat playbook for decades now. We’re told that if we give the poorest among us welfare, it will spark the economy more than tax cuts because the impoverished will put that money back into the economy. Green energy — adopted in expedited fashion due to environmental regulations — was supposed to create new industries and economic growth as far as the windmill-trained eye could see.
Instead, what we’ve seen is homelessness, shantytowns, extreme income inequality, joblessness, deficits, and all without discernible benefit to the state and the nation at large. Which raises the question: isn’t this what they said the conservative agenda would lead to?

Majority Of Americans See Trump's First Year As A Failure
and that he has divided the nation.
Americans deemed Trump's first year a failure, 53 percent to 40 percent.
And by an almost 2-to-1 ratio (61 percent to 32 percent), Americans said they believe Trump has divided the country since his election.
they disapprove of his handling of just about every other issue or think things have gotten worse — from their views of the tax plan to the state of race relations and women's rights to immigration, health care, the deficit and foreign policy, including his approach to North Korea. Seven in 10 Americans are now concerned about the possibility of war breaking out with the rogue nuclear nation.
"He remains with his base intact and not much else. People remain doubtful in the institutions of our government, doubtful in how he's communicating things and how he's handling things. It's not a pretty picture for the president after the first year."
A majority of Americans continue to disapprove of the job Trump is doing overall (53 percent), think the country is headed in the wrong direction (57 percent), overwhelmingly believe his policies are directed toward helping the wealthy (60 percent) as opposed to the middle class (25 percent), and see his use of Twitter as a risky way to communicate (78 percent) that isn't sending the right message.
He has slipped with independents, for example, a group he won in 2016. None of that bodes well for Republicans in this year's midterms.
Nearly half of Americans (46 percent) said Trump's presidency has fallen below their expectations.
A third said he has met their expectations, (negative or positive expections? :lol )
while just 15 percent said he has exceeded them. (negative or positive expections? :lol )
A third of Americans said Trump's first year was a "major failure."
Just 15 percent described it as a "major success."

Make Europe Great Again! How Trumpism is Winning in Europe
https://voiceofeurope.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Design-senza-titolo-2-702x459.jpg
Evan El-Amin / Shutterstock.com
Europe is no longer great. In Sweden and Germany women feel (and are) unsafe, migrant gangs dominate several cities and terrorism can now hit us anywhere on our own continent. Did our ancestors work and fight for this dystopia?
Europeans have awoken and are ready to “clean the swamp” of the establishment
A lot of people are sick and tired of the EU and its totalitarian, top down leadership style. The EU’s suicidal migration policies are bankrupting our welfare systems and have also brought crime and ISIS to our doorstep. It took a while, but Europeans have awoken and are ready to “clean the swamp” of the establishment.
The first big anti-establishment move was Brexit and shortly after it came the election victory of Donald Trump. While Brexit is losing its charm under Theresa “the appeaser” May, Trump’s victory is becoming more inspiring for Europeans every day.
With one of the most powerful speeches on European soil President Trump showed Europeans and the West what is truly important now
Big “Trump-inspired” movements emerged in the Netherlands, France and Germany with relatively good election results as a consequence: Wilders’ Freedom Party finished second in the Netherlands, Marine Le Pen had the most support ever in France, even making it to the second round of the presidential election, and Weidel (and Garland’s) AfD had a surprisingly good result in the German elections and finished third.
https://voiceofeurope.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/shutterstock_673415881-1078x516.jpg
President Trump in Warsaw – Grand Warszawski / Shutterstock.com
But things would become even better for patriotic, common sense Europeans. With one of the most powerful speeches on European soil President Trump showed Europeans and the West what is truly important now:
“The fundamental question of our time is whether the West has the will to survive. Do we have the confidence in our values to defend them at any cost?”
“Do we have enough respect for our citizens to protect our borders? Do we have the desire and the courage to preserve our civilization in the face of those who would subvert and destroy it?”
“We can have the largest economies and the most lethal weapons anywhere on Earth, but if we do not have strong families and strong values, then we will be weak and we will not survive.”
With his high energy speech, President Trump highlighted Poland as an important ally in the fight against totalitarianism. It was important, it was symbolic; for much too long a country like Poland was seen as backward by Western Europe’s establishment and for all the wrong reasons, e.g. it hadn’t adopted corporatism, multiculturalism and political correctness.
Trump’s speech showed a lot of Europeans that Western Europe’s establishment is wrong and that Poland is right: Its conservatism, its values and its fight against (illegal) immigration are the right way forward. The result is that no-go zones do not exist in Poland, neither does terrorism or migrant rape epidemics.
It is clear that Trump’s election victory was an important push in the right direction.
Hungary can be seen as an extension of Poland’s conservatism and both join with Slovakia and the Czech Republic to form the “Visegrád Four”. The V4 group is opposed to the EU’s migration plans and it is against taking culturally incompatible migrants who won’t assimilate.
Hungary itself reduced illegal immigration by more than 99 percent by starting the construction of a fence two years ago. Its Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán, was clearly inspired by Trump’s inauguration and said:
“We have received permission from, if you like, the highest position in the world so we can now also put ourselves in first place.”
But he wasn’t the only one. While Geert Wilders, Marine Le Pen and Nigel Farage already supported Trump during the elections, more “mainstream leaders” implicitly supported his policies as well:
Poland’s new Prime Minister said last month:
“This is a struggle for Polish property and Polish capital,” he says. “I’m asking everyone for help. Let’s reclaim Poland together.”
Austria’s new Chancellor pledged to ‘make Austria great again’ and said after his election victory:
“I want to put Austria back on top.. I want to provide security and order, because the Austrian people deserve it.”
One of Italy’s favourites to win in upcoming national elections praised President Trump’s tax cuts and said:
“The Italy I have in mind for the next few years: reduces taxes and attract businesses.”
It is clear that Trump’s election victory was an important push in the right direction. Europe’s conservative leaders are increasingly adopting his strategies and feel supported by our most important ally again.
Instead of Obama’s fearmongering and globalist outlook, Trump shows he really cares about us Europeans:
“Americans, Poles, and the nations of Europe value individual freedom and sovereignty. We must work together to confront forces, whether they come from inside or out, from the South or the East, that threaten over time to undermine these values and to erase the bonds of culture, faith and tradition that make us who we are.”
Thank you, Mr. President, the time has indeed come to make Europe great again and you can guide us through this rocky journey like the North Star or a lodestone that points to liberty.

Trust in U.S. institutions plunges in Trump's first year
Trust in U.S. institutions, particularly the government, has plunged in President Donald Trump’s first year in office,
The annual Edelman Trust Barometer showed overall trust in the four institutions it measures - the government, media, business and non-governmental organizations - falling more steeply in the United States than in any of the 28 countries surveyed.
Trump has broken with presidential tradition and repeatedly denounced the media and judiciary - attacks his critics say risk undermining public confidence in those institutions.
“The United States is enduring an unprecedented crisis of trust,”
it comes at a time when the U.S. economy is showing robust growth and stock markets are at record highs.
“Normally when things are going well, trust is pretty good,” Edelman said. “Increasingly there is a disconnect between trust and economic outcomes.”
a politicisation of the public discourse in the United States and elsewhere that has left many people confused about what is fact and what is fiction.
The survey showed nearly 2 in 3 people are unable to distinguish reliable news from rumors and falsehoods.

President Donald Trump’s relationship with Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke has reportedly soured, as the administration official opted to go “rogue” on the issue of offshore drilling in Florida.

California Democrats want some businesses to fork over half tax-cut savings to state
Calling the Trump administration’s tax reform plan a “middle-class tax increase,” two California lawmakers introduced a bill that would force large companies to fork over half of their expected savings to the state.
Assemblymen Kevin McCarty and Phil Ting, both Democrats, introduced Assembly Constitutional Amendment 22, which calls for a 10 percent surcharge on companies with a net earnings over $1 million. The plan could potentially raise billions for the state's social services programs.
“It is unconscionable to force working families to pay the price for tax breaks and loopholes benefiting corporations and wealthy individuals,” Ting said in a statement, according to The San Francisco Chronicle. “This bill will help blunt the impact of the federal tax plan on everyday Californians by protecting funding for education, affordable health care and other core priorities.”
The paper reported that the two lawmakers face an up-hill battle because Democrats in the state have lost their supermajority in the Legislature.
The Trump administration’s tax bill cut the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 21 percent. The administration contends that the lessened tax burden will stimulate the economy and help the U.S. stay competitive on a global scale.
951174074184605696
About 2 million workers have received a bonus after the bill’s passage.
Congressional Democrats said the bill was rushed through and benefits the top 1 percent of earners. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has diminished the corporate bonuses as mere “crumbs.”
An editorial last week in The Sacramento Bee called the McCarty-Ting proposal “dumb.”
“California’s tax system should be updated to match a 21st century economy,” the editorial read. “The high sales tax rate, which hits low-income people hardest, ought to be lowered, and certain services used by wealthier people and corporations ought to be subject to taxes. Proposition 13, the property tax cutting measure approved by voters 40 years ago, could be revisited.”
The editorial pointed out that the state will maintain a $13.5 billion reserve this year, but, “Bills that blindly seek to soak big business and the rich at a time of budget surplus solve nothing.”
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Trump supporter almost strangled to death by ANTIFA Extremist; Media Remains Silent

A 56-year-old man attending a gala celebrating the anniversary of President Donald Trump’s inauguration Saturday night was knocked down with a punch to the head and strangled by a black-clad member of the Antifa communist extremist group, WCBS reported.
A video from the scene of the attack showed the victim bleeding on the sidewalk as police officers surrounded the handcuffed attacker. The victim was transported to Bellevue Hospital and listed in stable condition.
The gala, arranged by independent journalist Mike Cernovich, took place at the FREQNYC nightclub on W. 50th St. According to Daily News, the attack occurred at 10:30 p.m.
“I saw him hit the old man,” witness Ali Thomas told Daily News. “One hit. He swung hard. He hit him hard. The old man’s head hit the curb.”
NYPD officers arrested David Campbell, a Brooklyn resident. Campbell was charged with strangulation, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, assault of a police officer, resisting arrest, loitering, and obstruction of government administration, according to New York Post.
The mob also surrounded and trapped James O’Keefe, the president of Project Veritas, an undercover journalism outlet which recently published a series of reports exposing censorship, bias, and invasion of privacy by Twitter. O’Keefe retreated behind a line of police officers.
“Antifa spotted me walking outside Cernovich Night for Freedom, had me surrounded, bypassed NYPD, started to charge, had to turn phone off as was trapped in violent mob for 10 minutes with a few cops escorting me to car,” O’Keefe wrote on Twitter.

Several other people were injured during and after the event, including a police officer, according to NYPD.
Cernovich, the organizer, called the mob of protesters “terrorists” after the event.
The event was billed as a “gathering of patriots and political dissidents who are bored with mainstream political events.” The festivities included a DJ set, a comedy routine, and speeches.
Antifa is currently being investigated by the FBI for domestic terrorism. A joint intelligence assessment by the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) described Antifa as committing terrorist activities as early as last year.
The confidential documents, first reported on by Politico, show that the intelligence assessment led the DHS under the Obama administration to formally classify the activities of Antifa as “domestic terrorist violence.”
The organization was founded in Germany in the 1920s as the violent wing of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD), which at the time was trying to establish a communist dictatorship in Germany. Part of its role was to brand any form of capitalism and all rival political parties, including even social democrats, as “fascist.”

US rejects Venezuela's call for "snap" presidential election
CARACAS, Venezuela – The U.S. State Department has rejected a call by Venezuela's ruling party to hold early presidential elections.
State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said in a statement Wednesday that the "snap" elections wouldn't be free or fair.
Her comments come a day after Venezuela's constituent assembly approved the move to hold elections by the end of April. President Nicolas Maduro then said he'd seek a second term.
Socialist party chief Diosdado Cabello says elections are the best way to counter criticism by the U.S. and others that Venezuela is descending into dictatorship. (:lmao)
Several neighboring Latin American countries say early elections cut short negotiations with Venezuela's opposition, which calls for international observers.
Nauert called on Maduro's regime to respect the human rights of its citizens and to return to democratic constitutional order.

i think that if he ran today with those same policies, he wouldn't get much support from the democrat base. i mean you're actually making a great observation of how political landscapes can change and how what a democrat did 20-25 years ago isn't necessarily aligned with what democrats would stand for today. now we can extend that same logic to say the republicans in the 1860's don't necessarily align with republicans today.

Chucho i posted this a while back tbh...
Throughout this election cycle, in addition to the tried and true Party of Linc:loln talking point, we've been hearing conservative pundits constantly refer to the democrats as the party who "opposed the civil rights act" or some variant of that "fact"...
but for the ST audience, lets go into the numbers...
If you go by political party, both parties largely supported the 1964 civil rights act
In the Senate: Democrats favored the bill 69% to 31%. Republicans favored the bill 82% to 18%
In the House: Democrats favored the bill 63% to 27%. Republicans favored the bill 80% to 20%
Now, just by looking at these percentages, we can put the "democrats opposed the civil rights act" point to rest. But I know what you're thinking... "hey look, the republicans were more strongly in favor of the civil rights act than democrats!" While true at face value, we can get a much better perspective by analyzing the voting patterns based on demographics other than strictly political party...
If we call the 11 confederate states "southern states" and all 39 other states as "northern" states, just for the sake of simplicity lets look at the North vs South voting records...
In the Senate:
Northern Democrats favored the bill 94% to 6%, whereas Northern Republicans favored the bill 84% to 16%.
Southern Democrats opposed the bill 5% to 95%, whereas the only southern republican opposed the bill.
In the House:
Northern Democrats favored the bill 94% to 6%, whereas Northern Republicans favored the bill 85% to 15%
Southern Democrats opposed the bill 7% to 93%, whereas Southern Republicans opposed the bill 0% to 100%
As you see, the great disparity when it comes to the civil rights act really shows its face when you isolate the confederate states vs the rest of the country. Hopefully we can put this talking point to rest, at least on this forum.
Chucho
01-24-2018, 05:58 PM
If an entire region of the United States switched parties because of these issues, you might have a point.
You made a comparison of Jefferson Davis being considered a Democrat by today's standards. I made a comparison of Bill Clinton being considered a Democrat by today's standards while he was POTUS.
Why is the point different? Platforms have changed drastically since Clinton was President, the entirety of Demos today would find his time in Office repugnant and not of their standards, so you can say there has been an entire platform change since then, as you do for Jefferson.
Now, the Civil war scoreboard...there's no point to be made there.

btw pav commission me and i'll paint you a van gogh but it's going to cost quite a bit. $50-100 an hour depending on how big the canvas is and what medium you'd like it in.
Why does the dollar per hour matter due to canvas size

Enough old fuckers who remembered the civil war died off, and the stigma of "Republican" disappeared for white southerners. About the same time that the "moral majority" thing pushed evangelicals into politics. i.e. things change

Armed Trump Supporters in Az. Confront, Ask Native American Legislator If He "Is Here Legally" (https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2018/1/27/1736512/-Armed-Trump-Supporters-in-Az-Confront-Ask-Native-American-Legislator-If-He-Is-Here-Legally)
Pistol packing drumpf trash accosted Latina State Employees, yelled at children and asked a Native American State Representative if he was in the country “legally” at the Arizona Statehouse in Phoenix yesterday.
“Supporters of President Donald Trump singled out dark-skinned lawmakers, legislative staffers and children at the Capitol on Jan. 25 as they protested congressional efforts to pass immigration reform, according to staffers of the Arizona Legislature and two Democratic legislators.
Waving large flags in support of Trump while standing between the House and Senate buildings, the protesters, who were also armed, asked just about anyone who crossed their path if they “support illegal immigration…..
...Lisette Flores and Selianna Robles, policy advisers for Senate Democrats, said they were yelled at when they walked from the Senate to the House lawn, directly passing the Trump supporters, to get lunch at a farmers market.
Three white coworkers offered to escort Flores, Robles, and Democratic staffer Dora Ramirez back to their offices, Robles said.
“We’re walking back, and they start yelling again, ‘Get out of the country.’
At that point, they pointed to Lisette, called her an illegal, and said, ‘Get out, go back home!’” Robles said.
“But they pointed at Jane (Ahern), who works for the House, and they said, ‘No, you can stay.’”
Ahern, a policy adviser for House Democrats, is white…”:
When they confronted Rep. César Chávez (D) Phoenix, who was brought here undocumented as a three year old, but has since not only become a citizen but a lawmaker, he opted for humor and replied…
“I’m an undocumented legislator.”
Apparently convinced that they had not shown their asses sufficiently for one day, they turned their attentions to Eric Descheenie,
a native American (You get that, asswipes, Native American) who represents the District containing the Navajo Nation Reservation and
is a member of The Bears Ears Inter-Tribal Coalition who recently hosted a “Bears Ears: 10,000 Years of Public Land’ event in Jackson Hole, Wyoming —
his response was as short and eloquent as Chávez’s:

Mike Pence's Tone Deaf Holocaust Remembrance Day Greeting Sparks Jewish Outrage (https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2018/1/28/1736647/-Mike-Pence-s-Tone-Deaf-Holocaust-Remembrance-Day-Greeting-Sparks-Jewish-Outrage)
Mike Pence’s visit to Jerusalem was an unqualified disaster.
First he made a speech at the Knesset last Monday that was characterized as a “tent revival sermon” by the Israeli press, and
Pence himself was called “Horseman of the Trumpocalypse.”
He was accused of not being in touch with the basic nature of where he was really at,
instead living in his own fantasy of where he thought he was at.
The head of an Israeli non governmental organization said,
“The Jerusalem that Pence visited does not exist, but rather [Pence visited] an ‘end-of-days’ Biblical theme park.” (https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2018/1/23/1735419/-Israeli-Expert-Says-Pence-s-Visit-Was-To-An-End-of-Days-Biblical-Theme-Park-Not-To-Real-Jerusalem) :lol
To this mess, add the fact that Pence, ever the evangelical, committed yet another faux pas on International Holocaust Remembrance Day by
sending a twitter greeting characterizing the Holocaust in “Christ imagery’ terms.
Haaretz: (https://www.haaretz.com/us-news/mike-pence-s-holocaust-day-message-sparks-jewish-outrage-1.5768602)
“Angry replies to his tweet charged that Pence, an evangelical Christian, imposed – consciously or unconsciously – a Christian religious narrative on the tragedy that was disrespectful to the Jews who perished.
Critics described it as ‘shameful’ and ’tone-deaf.’ (https://www.haaretz.com/us-news/mike-pence-s-holocaust-day-message-sparks-jewish-outrage-1.5768602)
”One wrote: “Are you referring to my Jewish relatives who died or survived in the Holocaust or
did we become embroiled into some sort of Jesus analogy?”
Another called Pence’s use of the term resurrection “a Christian-tinged euphemism as the word is rarely used out of that specific context” and
accused him of “glossing over the fact that they were murdered by saying they were resurrected,
just like the Jesus he claims to believe in.“
