Trump's ties to Deutsche Bank under heavy scrutiny, and bank fraud may be the least of it (https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2019/3/19/1843306/-Trump-s-ties-to-Deutsche-Bank-under-heavy-scrutiny-and-bank-fraud-may-be-the-least-of-it)

while he was radioactive elsewhere, Trump found a friend in Deutsche Bank.

During the past two decades, the bank has channeled more than $2 billion to Trump.

Just why the German bank was willing to loan Trump huge sums when everyone else was breaking out the 20-foot poles is already

the subject of twin congressional probes and another investigation by the New York attorney general.

And, as the New York Times reports (https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/18/business/trump-deutsche-bank.html), there may be plenty of fire lurking behind the smoke.

Deutsche Bank continued to lend Trump money despite a stack of potential red flags, but

at least part of their willingness came from a simple cause:

Trump lied to them.

He repeatedly misstated his net worth, misrepresented his financial status, and overestimated the value of his assets.

Deutsche Bank appears to have eventually seen through many of Trump’s lies—such as his claiming to be worth $3 billion in 2005 when he was worth something more like $780 million.

But by then they had sunk more than $1 billion into Trump-related investments.

the biggest mystery.

Two years before the bank caught Trump more than tripling his worth in order to scam another loan,

there was a much better reason for it to walk away from any further dealings.

Because in 2003, shortly after it first started to get involved with Trump, Deutsche Bank hit the same issue as previous banks:

Trump reportedly defaulted on loans for hundreds of millions. But still, the bank gave him more.

That wasn’t the last time Trump walked away and left Deutsche Bank holding worthless paper.

Trump also appears to have defaulted on a loan in 2008.

one big question: Why?

Why would any bank continue to give someone not just small loans, but billions,

when they knew they were being lied to and had already been burned to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars?

The suspicion of many is that Deutsche Bank officials gave money to Trump

because they were told to give money to Trump by people who had a big say at the bank.

People like Russian oligarchs whose funds were not only purchasing apartments at Trump buildings, but

were flowing through the bank in money-laundering schemes.

https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2019/3/19/1843306/-Trump-s-ties-to-Deutsche-Bank-under-heavy-scrutiny-and-bank-fraud-may-be-the-least-of-it??detail=emaildkre

My guess is that finally the Trash-DB-Russia triangle will be exposed as criminal.

Wilbur Ross was also deeply involved in Russian mafiya / oligarchy finances, is why he was chosen to join Trash's cabinet.

Trump’s Terror Grows As The FBI and Prosecutors Have Mountains Of Evidence Against Him
Trump is terrified because both Mueller and the Southern District of New York have mountains of evidence of his crimes.

“And these are still, for the most part, dynamic, pending investigations.

Judges — judge still saying I don’t want this out yet, it’s going to reveal too much and reveal names.

And for those who say, you know what, we shouldn’t believe Cohen and his testimony because he’s a convicted liar, let’s look at what we’ve learned today.

That is that these mountains — this mountain of evidence is such that you almost don’t have to believe Cohen because prosecutors,

the special counsel, the southern district of New York, the FBI,

have so much evidence to back up what they do that you could almost discount public testimony from Cohen and

realize that the data is there and the data will win the day. ”

‘The president ought to be scared’: Ex-DOJ official says Mueller has ‘oodles’ of evidence against Cohen and Trump

President Donald Trump has legitimate concerns about the legal exposure he is facing, former top Department of Justice official Chuck Rosenberg explained

Donald Trump today confronted with new reporting that Robert Mueller’s investigators began investigating the Trump Organization’s ties to Russia just months after Trump was sworn-in as president,” Wallace reported.

Rosenberg explained the legal standard of probable cause that was required to be met in order for the search warrant to be issued.

“Here we have pages and pages and facts after facts which detail the probable cause that the government had to search Michael Cohen’s home, his hotel room, and his office,”

“Probable cause is the lowest standard in the criminal law,

if we want to convict someone at trial, it’s proof beyond a reasonable doubt.

If we want to detain them pending trial, it’s clear and convincing evidence.

But the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution only requires probable cause — and this is not a technical term — but they had oodles of probable cause.”

Donald Trump is doing awesome (officially). Not in court he isn't.

Trump seems more interested in announcing changes than making them stick.

“What they have consistently been doing is short-circuiting the process,” said Georgetown Law School’s William W. Buzbee, an expert on administrative law who has studied Trump’s record. In the regulatory cases, Buzbee said, “they don’t even come close” to explaining their actions, “making it very easy for the courts to reject them because they’re not doing their homework.”

Two-thirds of the cases accuse the Trump administration of violating the Administrative Procedure Act (APA), a nearly 73-year-old law that forms the primary bulwark against arbitrary rule. The normal “win rate” for the government in such cases is about 70 percent, according to analysts and studies. But as of mid-January, a database maintained by the Institute for Policy Integrity at the New York University School of Law (https://policyintegrity.org/deregulation-roundup) shows Trump’s win rate at about 6 percent.

George Conway reveals Trump’s lawyers kept him away from Mueller because ‘he’d lie his ass off’

one of President Donald Trump’s own attorneys told him that he would not let his client talk to special counsel Robert Mueller because he would inevitably perjure himself.

“He lies even when it makes no sense to lie,” Conway wrote.

“As one of his lawyers once told me,

Trump couldn’t be allowed to talk to Mueller because ‘he’d lie his ass off.'”

Conway believes that Trump’s pathological narcissism (https://rawstory.com/2019/03/george-conways-attacks-trumps-mental-health-hitting-hurts-dont-think-hes-laughing/) and dishonesty are the keys to understanding just about every one of his actions.

“To understand Trump, you have to look at everything through the prism of his narcissism,” he wrote.

“Once you do that, pretty much everything makes sense.”

Cindy Yang, Straw donor for foreign campaign cash to Trump Victory?

Selling tickets to campaign fundraisers without disclosing the buyer to the Federal Election Commission is illegal. Selling tickets to foreign nationals, who are banned from donating to American political causes, would be an additional violation of U.S. law. Only U.S. citizens and permanent residents can contribute, although foreign nationals can attend fundraisers if they do not reimburse anyone for their tickets. It would be legal for Yang and her associates to give away tickets and high-dollar extras like photos with the president as gifts, but illegal to sell them.https://www.miamiherald.com/latest-news/article227941749.html

lol 'crisis'The cost of college tuition has gone up 300-400% in the last 35 years, has the value gone up proportionally?

Main driver is states withdrawing education spending. You may not consider it a crisis, but millions of college students carrying college debt they can't repay has economic and social consequences -- people don't make as much money, don't buy houses and cars, don't start families, become a drain on their parents' resources for retirement, fail to save money for their own retirement, go without insurance and health care, have related health and mental issues.

This doesn't happen in other rich countries, is there some good reason it *must* happen here?

Winehole23

Seems grossly inefficient from an economic standpoint. Isn't there some point at which debt becomes a a painful and unnecessary drag on growth?

It's a truism that debt that cannot be paid will not be paid -- why should the system be set up to make irresponsible lenders whole?

At some point, bad debt has to be written off.

Trump’s executive order on campus ‘free speech’ is a gross obscenity that promotes censorship

On March 21st Trump signed an executive order with the anodyne designation of

“Improving Free Inquiry, Transparency, and Accountability at Colleges and Universities,” :lol Orwellian! :lol

a declaration that by name alone would be easy to assume is congruent with Litchfield’s idealistic argument of half a century ago.

But the order’s language, which claims that we must

“encourage institutions to appropriately account”

for free inquiry in their “administration of student life and

to avoid creating environments that stifle competing perspectives”

lacks not just Litchfield’s poetry, but indeed means the exact opposite of that earlier defense.

Trump’s order, fulfilling a promise to his right-wing supporters and their long-standing obsession with a perceived liberal bias in the academy,

exists not to promote inquiry, but to stifle it;

not to expand perspectives, but rather to limit them;

not to encourage free speech, but to censor it.

Trump’s order was germinated out of the debate that has surrounded questions concerning the scheduling of fascist speakers at universities.

the president tweeted on February 2, 2017 that

“If U.C. Berkeley does not allow free speech and practices violence on innocent people with a different point of view –

NO FEDERAL FUNDS?”

it should go without saying that neither Berkeley faculty nor its administration had enacted “violence on innocent people.”

The language of the March 21st executive order is nebulous, but seems to imply that colleges and universities will lose federal funds if there choose not to host certain speakers.

It’s unclear if such a federal order will be consistently applied,

so that an evangelical college would be required to invite pro-choice speakers, or :lol

a Christian university would have to pay visiting atheist lecturers, :lol

A moron, recommended by a TV so-called finance guy, fellates Trash, gets nominated for the Fed

“IVANKA WOULD BE A BETTER PICK”: TRUMP’S FED NOMINEE TRASHED BY EVERYONE WITH A BRAIN

Stephen Moore, who is so perpetually wrong that at least one newspaper has said it will never publish him again, is not a popular choice.

his decision Friday to nominate a man who could be

charitably described as a moron

for a seat on the Federal Reserve Board was unique in that it was near-universally panned as a horrible idea.

“Here’s my challenge to any informed voter of any partisan leaning,” tweeted (https://twitter.com/JustinWolfers/status/1109139536775393280) University of Michigan economist Justin Wolfers of the news that the president thinks Heritage Foundation economist Stephen Moore should play a role shaping monetary policy.

“Call your favorite economist.

Whether they’re left, right, libertarian or socialist,

none of them will endorse Stephen Moore for the Fed. He’s manifestly unqualified.”

“By the way,” Wolfers added (https://twitter.com/JustinWolfers/status/1109183582889824267), “and I’m totally serious about this—

I think Ivanka would be a better pick for the Fed than Stephen Moore.”

So how did Moore, who

gleefully described the 2017 tax cut as “death to Democrats (https://www.vanityfair.com/newsletter/2017/12/trump-crony-admits-tax-plan-is-an-elaborate-middle-finger-to-liberals)” and has

said that everyone at the Fed should be fired for raising interest rates (https://twitter.com/crampell/status/1109129461314785283),

land the nomination? By sucking up to the Big Guy, of course (https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-03-22/trump-said-to-consider-stephen-moore-for-federal-reserve-board):

Moore, who isn’t a Ph.D. economist but holds a master of arts degree in the discipline, got

on Trump’s radar with a March 13 Wall Street Journal column he co-authored that championed Trump’s policies and

blamed the Fed for slowing the economy.

Trump’s chief economic adviser Larry Kudlow showed the op-ed to Trump over lunch last week, according to two people familiar with the matter.

Trump remarked to Kudlow that he should have appointed Moore to be Fed chairman,

the people said, and

directed Kudlow to call Moore and gauge his interest in a board seat.

This week, Trump called Moore himself and asked if he’d accept a nomination to the board.

“Stephen Moore is a particularly poor choice for the Federal Reserve Board,”

Tim Duy, an economics professor and a Fed expert at the University of Oregon, told the Times (https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/22/us/politics/stephen-moore-federal-reserve.html).

“He appears more devoted to pursuing a far-right economic agenda than willing to understand the complexity of economic policy.”

Obviously, for President Buy and Sell, that’s all part of the charm.

Moore’s own words are hardly re-assuring.

“I’m kind of new to this game, frankly,

so I’m going to be on a steep learning curve myself about

how the Fed operates,

how the Federal Reserve makes its decisions,”

Moore told (https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-03-24/swift-pushback-on-stephen-moore-trump-s-latest-pick-for-the-fed) Bloomberg Television.

“It’s hard for me to say even what my role will be there,

assuming I get confirmed.”

https://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/1208423?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+tpm-news+%28TPMNews%29 (https://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/1208423?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+tpm-news+%28TPMNews%29)

Former Trump associate accused of trying to launder stolen money through Trump company

The special counsel's inquiry isn't the end of investigations into Trump's inner circle and business practices.

the president’s former business partner Felix Sater is accused in federal court of trying to launder billions of dollars of stolen money through Trump Tower Moscow. Sater also allegedly laundered millions through down-payments on condo purchases at the Trump SoHo property.

BTA Bank and the city of Almaty, Kazakhstan, filed a lawsuit at a federal court in Manhattan (https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/5780579-BTA-Bank-v-Felix-Sater.html) on Monday

alleging Sater conspired with Ilyas Khrapunov, a Kazakh businessman,

to use $4 billion allegedly stolen years earlier from the bank and city to finance the the Trump Tower Moscow project in 2012.

Plans to build the tower were dropped in the final months of the 2016 presidential election,

and the building never materialized, but

Sater found other ways to launder the money, the lawsuit says.

Trash’s ‘dreadful space’ in Chicago is the windy city’s ‘biggest’ retail space failure

President Donald Trump is responsible for the “biggest failure” in Chicago retail space development,

Karr said she examined the plan for riverfront retail space at the tower’s base with Trump Organization executive Charles Kaplan before the 2005 groundbreaking.

“The way it’s designed now, it’s never going to lease up,”

In retrospect, she was correct.

“It’s a dreadful space,” Karr explained.

“You could have some kind of luxury call center there, or maybe a high-end med spa, but not at the prices they were asking.”

“A decade after the tower opened in 2009, it has just one retail tenant,

a salon that occupies an enclosed 3,400-square-foot suite above the hotel lobby,” they reported.

“The entire deck-level space remains empty, its blank beige walls on full display for the millions of tourists who stroll along the river each year.

No part of it has ever been leased, according to Trump Organization tax appeal documents filed in Cook County

and analyzed by The Real Deal.”

“Trump Tower’s failure is an outlier in Chicago’s competitive retail market,

where no comparable space has languished on the market for nearly this long,”

https://www.rawstory.com/2019/03/trumps-dreadful-space-chicago-windy-citys-biggest-retail-space-failure/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+TheRawStory+%28The+Raw+Story% 29 (https://www.rawstory.com/2019/03/trumps-dreadful-space-chicago-windy-citys-biggest-retail-space-failure/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+TheRawStory+%28The+Raw+Story% 29)

TRUMP’S FINANCIAL STATEMENTS ARE SO FULL OF LIES THAT HIS ACCOUNTANTS PUT A WARNING LABEL ON THEM

Newly obtained documents show the brazen methods with which the president inflated his assets to banks and insurance companies.

In a 2011 document known as a “Statement of Financial Condition,” Trump purported to own 55 home lots ready to sell for at least $3 million apiece at his Southern California golf course. Yet, in reality, he’d only been zoned for 31, thereby overstating his future revenue by a cool $72-odd million.

In a document from 2012, he tacked on an extra 800 acres to the size of his roughly 1,200 acre Virginia vineyard.

In 2013, in an attempt to bolster his bid for the Buffalo Bills, a two-page “Summary of Net Worth” conveniently omitted his ownership of two hotels, in Chicago and Las Vegas, meaning, per the Post,

“that some of Trump’s actual debt load was hidden from anyone reading the statement.”

In perhaps the most brazen, Trumpian “exaggeration,” he

invented an extra 10 stories at Trump Tower, claiming that the building was 68 stories when, in actuality—you can literally look at the building and count them—there are 58.

, the accountants who prepared the documents literally put a disclaimer on them, effectively stating that Trump was full of shit:

When compiling these statements of financial condition,

those accountants have said they did not verify or audit the figures in the statements.

Instead, when Trump provided them data, they wrote it down without checking to see whether it was accurate . . .

The documents begin with two-page disclaimers,

warning of various ways in which the statements don’t follow normal accounting rules.

The accountants note that Trump is the source of many buildings’ valuations—and that,

contrary to normal accounting rules,

he had inflated them by counting future income that wasn’t guaranteed.

https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2019/03/trump-financial-statements-full-of-lies?mbid=nl_th_5c9d495e1c3519239055dadf&CNDID=43758549&utm_source=nl&utm_brand=vf&utm_mailing=VF_Hive_032919&utm_medium=email&bxid=5bd6795524c17c1048022fcc&user_id=43758549&hasha=992d608214b505003aa04bf10a595031&hashb=542eb31d958e85ddd5a4c3ccf3faae18526a77bd&hashc=54b3612ab970ce13a64a16665b1987080ca5b72e2ee7 62b722fbba6ab378f2f5&esrc=bounceX&utm_campaign=VF_Hive_032919&utm_term=VYF_Hive

Another coverup turd from shithole Ohio

Trump's new Capitol Hill hitman: Jim Jordan tries to block House investigations

Freedom Caucus member who mocked Michael Cohen is trying to shut down Elijah Cummings' inquiry into Trump money

Jordan has loudly objected to any and all Democratic efforts to probe the Trump administration or the president's personal and business finances.

Instead, he has pressured Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to assign a brand new special counsel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cShxjlUfmhk) to investigate alleged anti-Trump bias (https://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/mueller-report-these-key-official-must-be-questioned-rep-jim-jordan-says) on Robert Mueller's team of federal prosecutors — and

even tried to have Rosenstein impeached (https://www.salon.com/2018/05/01/house-republicans-turn-the-heat-up-on-rod-rosenstein-draw-articles-of-impeachment/).

The House Oversight Committee has already seen an 18 percent drop in funding over the last decade, :lol who controlled spending? :lol

Jordan is the only ranking member in the entire House to lobby for cuts to his own committee’s budget this session.

Jordan criticized Democrats last month for bringing in Michael Cohen

Jordan and Meadows filed a letter of complaint about (https://www.salon.com/2019/03/29/trumps-new-capitol-hill-hitman-jim-jordan-tries-to-block-house-investigations/)Cummings’ decision to open an investigation (https://www.salon.com/2019/03/27/house-democrats-seek-10-years-of-trumps-financial-information-thanks-to-michael-cohens-testimony_partner/) into allegations made by Cohen during his testimony.

Between June of 2012 and March of 2013, "the value of the President's assets appears to have skyrocketed by $4.2 billion," Cummings' letter notes, explaining that

this increase in value came from only a "single line item" in Trump's assets that did not exist in 2011 or 2012.

Cummings’ letter notes that these statements still "raise questions about the President's representations of his financial affairs on these forms and on other disclosures, particularly relating to the President's debts."

it is no longer a surprise that Republicans on the Oversight Committee are now opposed to oversight itself —especially since a Republican entered the White House,"

The White House, for its part, is also trying to obstruct Cummings’ attempt at oversight. Earlier this month, White House counsel Pat Cipollone wrote

a letter (https://oversight.house.gov/sites/democrats.oversight.house.gov/files/documents/2019-03-04_2%20Cipollone%20to%20EEC%20re%20Security%20Clea rances.pdf) to Cummings rejecting the committee's request for documents as "extraordinarily intrusive."

Winehole thinks that when prosecutors drop charges and cases get sealed that because "no one got hurt" it is justice. It's a joke that you probably don't understand even now after I've explained it to you.

Why isn't prosecutorial discretion justice? Prosecutors make decisions like that every single day. We don't have the resources to prosecute all crimes, public officials have to decide where scarce public resources will do the most good for public safety.

Why are you so red-assed about the gay, black celebrity catching a break? In the big picture, this doesn't matter much.

Except to you, i guess.

"Their day trip to inspect the gaudy property produced an exchange that encapsulates both

Trump’s phallic strutting

and Johnson’s shrewdness. As Lamster writes, the host offered his guest his own philosophy of women:

Trump: You have to treat ’em like shit.

Johnson: You’d make a good mafioso.

Trump: One of the greatest.

Qatari’s are ‘genuinely afraid of Jared’ extortion scheme and fear ‘their sovereignty is under threat’

Kushner “may be extorting the nation of Qatar” — for one billion dollars

Ward explained how the Kushner family patriarch, Charles Kushner, reportedly asked for $1 billion dollars to shore up the family’s 666 Fifth Avenue building.

“What I have learned is that in the ensuing month [May 2017] before the US visit to Riyadh,

Jared Kushner got on a plane and flew to Doha, the Qatari capital, and

he reamed the Qatari ruling family, the al-Thanis, for not doing the deal with his father,”

Trump raised eyebrows when his support Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates’ blockade of Qatar.

“What they interpreted this as, was Jared Kushner basically saying,

if you don’t pay my father and pay off this building,

look what’s going to happen.

We’re going to, I’m going to, the Americans are going to sanction an invasion of your country,”

I expected the feckless Dems would fuck it up, and they are fucking it up

Democrats Might Not Get Their Hands On Trump’s Taxes Before November 2020

Rep. Richard Neal (https://www.huffpost.com/topic/richard-neal) (D-Mass.) can ask for copies of Donald Trump (https://www.huffingtonpost.com/topic/donald-trump)’s federal tax returns whenever he wants, but Neal is in no hurry and seemingly doesn’t care if Democrats (https://www.huffingtonpost.com/topic/democratic-party) don’t get the documents before the next election.

Though the law is clear that the treasury secretary is supposed to hand over any returns requested by the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin (https://www.huffpost.com/topic/steven-mnuchin) has all but said he’ll disobey the law (https://www.huffpost.com/entry/trump-tax-returns-steve-mnuchin_n_5c8a582de4b0450ddae7e9c1) ― meaning there will be a court fight.

Democrats said they’d make the request for Trump’s returns after regaining control of the House of Representatives (https://www.huffingtonpost.com/topic/us-house), but they’ve waited nearly three months to follow through. Neal has said only that he will make the request sometime this year, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (https://www.huffingtonpost.com/topic/nancy-pelosi)(D-Calif.) has backed his cautious approach.

(https://www.huffpost.com/entry/democrats-trump-tax-returns_n_5c9e85fee4b0bc0daca8a56b?ncid=newsltushp mgnews__TheMorningEmail__040119)Neal can request any American’s tax info thanks to a specific section of the tax code that grants that power to the chairs of congressional tax committees.

George Yin, a tax expert at the University of Virginia School of Law, said he is unaware of any instance of a treasury secretary refusing to comply with a request under the law, which Congress has rarely used since it was enacted in 1924.

(https://www.huffpost.com/entry/democrats-trump-tax-returns_n_5c9e85fee4b0bc0daca8a56b?ncid=newsltushp mgnews__TheMorningEmail__040119)The law is simple ―

Section 6103 (https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/26/6103) of the federal tax code says the Ways and Means chairman can request tax information and

that the treasury secretary “shall furnish such committee with any return or return information specified in such request,”

which the committee can then vote to make public.

“Contrary to what Neal has been saying, each day of delay does not strengthen their litigation hand ― it is an

unearned gift to Donald Trump,”
