Dude... click on the Mr. Ravinsky account.
The string of videos and pictures of destroyed/abandoned/captured vehicles is mind boggling.
It makes the Ukranian estimates of how many Russian troops they have killed waaaay more plausible.
Russian logistics problems are going to be made a LOT worse by the number of trucks they are losing. They didn't have enough to begin with.
I am going to call it: they cannot take Ukraine. More troops will not matter, since they can't feed them, or fuel their vehicles.
Give it another month for the economic nukes we have lobbed at them to do their damage, more guns, bullets, SAMS and enough civilians getting on the job training, an the spring mud starting, Russian losses will accelerate.
This will force a huge problem for the Ukrainians: what to do with all the prisoners?

A substitute teacher from Virginia has been suspended by a local school district after expressing approval of the Ukraine invasion, according to a report from The Washington Post.
During a Spanish class at Swanson Middle School on February 25, John Stanton, a 65-year-old substitute teacher, told The Post that he devoted the first 10 minutes of class discussion around the Ukraine-Russia conflict.
"I said, 'Here's what's going on,'" Stanton told The Post earlier this week. "The statement I think that got me was I said, 'I personally support the logic of Putin,' and what I meant by that is, he made a rational decision from his perception."
He said he was trying to offer students an alternative point of view that he characterized as rarely heard, according to The Post.
He also encouraged the students to read varying news sources, including Sputnik News, which is regarded as a "state-run propaganda machine," according to a 2017 federal report compiled by US intelligence and law enforcement agencies.

Putin compares sanctions to act of war
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s rhetoric around Western involvement in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine devolved Saturday, warning that the global sanctions imposed by Western countries against Russia are “akin to declaration of a war,” according to numerous media reports.
“These sanctions that are being imposed are akin to a declaration of war, but thank God it has not come to that,” he said, according to Al Jazeera’s translation.

Dude has lost. Every single one of his war objectives was based on delusions.
Ukraine will not fall. Russia simply cannot occupy the country. They do not have enough troops.
They will not get much father than they have gotten now. We are witnessing a total logistical failure.
They will continue to lose thousands of troops per week for as long as they stay. The only things they will accomplish is just more destruction of the cities they say they are "liberating".

Ukraine's army is using a nimble 'game-changing' drone called The Punisher that has completed scores of successful missions against the Russians, say reports
The Ukrainian military is using "game-changing" drones that can carry 3kg of explosives and hit targets up to 30 miles behind enemy lines, The Times of London reported.
Eugene Bulatsev, an engineer with the Ukrainian designer UA-Dynamics, told the outlet that the "game-changing" Punisher drones had completed up to 60 "successful" missions since the Russian invasion began.
"This is the cheapest and easiest way to deliver a punch from a long distance, without risking civilian lives," Bulatsev told the newspaper.
The electric drones have a 7.5-foot wingspan and can fly for hours at 1,300ft and need only the coordinates of their target so they can carry out their mission automatically, Bulatsev said.
A smaller reconnaissance drone called Spectre flies alongside to identify targets before the Punisher strikes.
After the fighting started in eastern Ukraine in 2014, a group of veterans launched the drone-making company, UA-Dynamics, according to an Haaretz report, last month.
"Three-quarters of the company's employees are veterans with experience in special operations deep in enemy territory," Maxim Subbotin, a marketing expert and an unofficial spokesman for UA-Dynamics, told the newspaper.

Three Russian commanders killed as Ukraine invasion force attempts to step up momentum
hree commanders in Russia’s army have been killed after moving up towards the frontline in an apparent attempt to restore momentum to the invasion of Ukraine, according to Western sources.
The deputy commander of the 41st Combined Arms Army, Maj Gen Andrei Sukhovetsky, whose death from a probable sniper bullet was revealed on Thursday, is the highest-ranking member of the invasion force to lose his life after nine days of fighting.
Now Western officials have confirmed that a divisional commander and a regimental commander have also been killed, in what was described as a “surprising” development resulting from a breakdown in command and control systems.
It is believed that the senior officers may have moved from positions in the rear to unusually exposed frontline locations in an bid to impose their personal authority on a flagging advance, which has been beset with logistical problems and fierce resistance from Ukrainian troops.
Recent days have seen Vladimir Putin’s forces switch from their initial plan to take Ukraine swiftly with a “thunder road” drive to the cities to a more cautious and brutal tactic of bombardment, which has claimed many civilian lives.
The past 24 hours have seen a continued barrage of air and artillery strikes on Ukrainian cities, including residential areas, as well as the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, said Western officials.\
Other possibilities:
Killed for not following orders
Killed by their own troops who want to avoid being ordered into meat grinders

Losing three division commanders in a week, whatever the cause, is Very Bad News for the Russian tourists.

After explaining why the U.S. wanted the reunited Germany to stay within the framework of NATO, Baker told Gorbachev that "if we maintain a presence in a Germany that is a part of NATO, there would be no extension of NATO's jurisdiction for forces of NATO 1 inch to the east."
"I put the following question to (Gorbachev)," Baker recounted in a letter to German Chancellor Helmut Kohl. "‘Would you prefer to see a united Germany outside of NATO, independent and with no U.S. forces, or would you prefer a unified Germany to be tied to NATO, with assurances that NATO’s jurisdiction would not shift 1 inch eastward from its present position?’"

Tanks are running out of fuel, Tanks and Choppers cannot operate without going 'splody, and jets trying to do close in air strikes face similar fates, even if the Russian military had the spar parts to keep them in the air.
Lying to your troops about their mission, attacking civilians, attacking a country you view as "brothers and sisters", poorly trained, and not fed.

In Odessa, Ukrainians are girding for yet another fight in another major city as Russian warships and paratroopers threaten the southern, coastal region of Europe’s second-largest nation, with citizens laying sandbags to protect the art and culture of this key port city founded by Catherine the Great.
For one citizen of Odessa, however, the sensation of being prepared to fight a large and powerful enemy doesn’t feel new, because Oleksandr Gereskul has been battling his own enemies — at least virtually — for more than a year.
You see, Oleksandr Gereskul is an investor in GameStop GME, -5.70%. ...

Russian marines prepare to land on the Black Sea coast to take Odesa
In the southwest, the Russians are battering the besieged town of Mykolayiv in a battle to seize the bridge linking Russian-held Crimea to the key port of Odesa. Marines on Russian warships in the Black Sea were seen poised for amphibious landings on the Odesa coast. Other units are advancing on Ukraine’s second largest nuclear power plant at Rivne in the west, after seizing the first.
Russia is reported to be mobilizing reinforcements from the Pacific Ocean arena, suggesting that the Russian General Staff has concluded that the strength initially committed to the Ukraine invasion is insufficient to finish the job of attaining the objectives set by President Vladimir Putin.
Putin warned on Saturday that any third party declaring a no-fly zone over Ukraine “would be considered a participant in the armed conflict.” He said, “Any such intervention would pose a threat to our service members.” The NATO chief conceded that a no-fly zone would have to be policed by sending alliance fighter planes into Ukrainian airspace, and shooting down Russian planes,” leading to a full-fledged war in Europe with nuclear power Russia.
Halting Russian oil imports will hurt the west coast the most. Several west coast refineries depend on Russian sweet crude to operate.
Russia will sell to country X, US will buy oil from that country (think Iran) and that country will say they upped their production.

Looks like Russia is working to hijack US Iran deal
Prime Minister Naftali Bennett flew secretly to Moscow on Saturday, March 5, and held three hours of conversation with President Vladimir Putin. The trip was coordinated with Washington. No readouts on the conversation were released. With the prime minister were close advisers and Russian-speaking Housing Minister Zeev Elkin as interpreter.
On Saturday, Russia presented a new condition for a revival of the Iran nuclear deal: A US guarantee that the sanctions imposed on Moscow for invading Ukraine won’t be applied to Russian trade and investment with Iran. Iranian officials strongly denounced the Russian demand as threatening to derail talks to restore the 2015 deal that was on the verge of being signed early next week – in service to Israel’s interests.

Southfront
On March 4, clashes between the Russian Armed Forces and the Ukrainian military continued west of Kyiv. Russian forces have expanded the control zone in the area forcing Ukrainian formations to retreat.
Fierce battles are taking place in the village of Bucha. The Russian Army took control of it in the morning of March 3, but the Ukrainian Army launched a counteroffensive. Serious clashes also occurred in the village of Irpin.
No significant changes of the situation took place near Kharkiv. Russian troops are on the northern outskirts of the city and bypass it from the southeast. They regularly deliver precise strikes on places where pro-Kiev forces are concentrated. In response, Ukrainian units used rocket launchers, at least some of which were deployed in residential areas. An operation to completely clean up the city from pro-Kiev forces is expected in the near future.
In Mariupol, clashes continue in the suburbs of the city. The Ukrainian army and nationalist battalions are trying to resist the superior forces of the DPR and Russia. Negotiations are underway to organize humanitarian corridors for the withdrawal of civilians. The operation to fully clean up the city from the remaining pro-Kiev units are yet to be launched.
In Vonovakha, the Russian military and forces of people’s republics have been developing their operation to eliminate the grouping of pro-Kiev forces there. Ukrainian Army and nationalist battalions suffered significant losses in manpower and equipment. At the same time, DPR forces have almost reached the town of Severodonetsk from the north.
In the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk direction, Russian forces are advancing towards Krasny Liman from the northeast, having taken control over Balakleya. They advance towards the settlement of Izyum. At the moment, there are battles and airstrikes in the area. The main aviation targets are the remaining facilities occupied by the Ukrainian military and the territorial defense fighters. By taking Izyum under the control, the joint forces of Russia and the LPR will create the possibility of encirclement of the grouping of Kiev forces in this area of operations.
The Ukrainian military still holds positions near Horlivka. Pro-Kiev forces carry out regular artillery strikes on Donetsk. According to DPR authorities, civilian objects are the main targets.
Nikolaev is partially blocked by Russian forces. An operation is being prepared to take the city under the full control. Eyewitnesses report the concentration of units of the Ukrainian Army and territorial defense forces in the southern outskirts. As of the morning of March 4, no clashes were reported there.
Intense fighting is taking place near Voznesensk. In order to hinder the attack on Kyiv from the south, the Ukrainian military blew up two crossings across the Yujniy Bug River. According to experts, the advance on Odessa is planned after the establishment of the full control over Nikolaev.
In Kherson, Russian troops are gradually establishing the full control over the region. The delivery of humanitarian aid has begun. The supply of water from the North Crimean Canal to the regions of the Crimean peninsula was organized.
Russian forces blocked the city of Chernihov. Fighting erupted to the north of it. However, no direct assault was launched.
Meanwhile, the Russians started establishing control of Energodar town. Now they are working to eliminate military positions of the Ukrainian Army in the city. Late on March 3 and early on March 4, clashes took place in the area, including areas near Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant where the Ukrainian Army set positions. This allowed the Zelensky government to speculate that the Russian advance may endanger the nuclear plant. Despite this, local sources report that by the morning Russians had established control and secured the facility.
In general, Kiev troops are retreating to the north of Zaporizhzhia Region, where the Russian Armed Forces are also advancing.
The second round of the Ukrainian-Russian negotiations achieved no breakthrough. Nonetheless, the sides agreed to work on establishing of ‘green corridors’ for evacuation of civilians and for deliveries of humanitarian aid.

Biden administration makes overtures to Caracas
Senior U.S. officials are traveling to Venezuela on Saturday to meet with the government of President Nicolás Maduro, according to people familiar with the matter, as the Biden administration steps up efforts to separate Russia from its remaining international allies amid a widening standoff over Ukraine.
Well-connected Republicans have been involved in talks about restarting the oil trade, including Scott Taylor, a former Republican congressman from Virginia who is working with Robert Stryk, a Washington lobbyist who briefly registered to represent Mr. Maduro’s regime in 2020 (https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/01/us/trump-venezuela-maduro.html) and remains in contact with people around it.
Mr. Taylor said he spoke on Friday night to a Venezuelan businessman who signaled that Mr. Maduro’s team was eager to re-engage with the United States.

Pence hits Trump: No room in GOP ‘for apologists for Putin’
Former Vice President Mike Pence urged Republicans to move on from the 2020 election and declared that “there is no room in this party for apologists for Putin” as he further cemented his break from former President Donald Trump.
Pence, in a speech Friday evening to the party’s top donors in New Orleans, took on those in his party who have failed to forcefully condemn Russian President Vladimir Putin for his unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.
“Where would Russian tanks be today if NATO had not expanded the borders of freedom? There is no room in this party for apologists for Putin,” Pence said, according to excerpts from the speech, which was closed to reporters. “There is only room for champions of freedom.”

Underground U.S. groups funnel fighters, medics to Ukraine
(Reuters) - A former U.S. military linguist is arming volunteers with Russian phrases like "put your weapon down" before they head to Ukraine to fight. Another U.S. veteran said he was in Ukraine linking volunteers to groups on the ground.
They are among organizers from three U.S. online networks Reuters spoke to this week that are creating underground pipelines of military, medical and other volunteers for Ukraine.
The networks are part of organized efforts to mobilize hundreds of North Americans prepared to fight for Ukraine, as well as thousands of other people across the globe.
“You can learn a few words and phrases that may potentially save your life,” said the former Army linguist, who identified himself as Tex and was compiling terms in Ukrainian and Russian for combat or in the event of capture.
The linguist's training group is helping military veterans brush up on skills like first aid or marksmanship. Most instruction is online. Some units do physical training together, he said.
The three groups operate behind layers of security, performing background checks and video interviews over concerns Russian elements are trying to infiltrate and sabotage operations. Members stress they are private individuals who have no links to the U.S. government or U.S. armed services.

Because you don't want to corner a sore loser, tbh... if you're gonna start WWIII, at the very least you start when a NATO country is attacked. In the meantime NATO can claim they haven't fired a bullet or attacked Russia.
NATO is playing a war of attrition. Choke the Russian economy and try to make this invasion last the longest possible. Somebody has to bankroll a long campaign.

Russian troops have encircled the city and are shooting at anyone who attempts to leave, according to the residents, including a top local health official who CNN is not naming for security reasons.
"We are in hiding. There is a curfew in the city, if people go out after eight in the evening, they shoot to kill. You can move in the company of no more than two people," she said.

N says 364 civilian deaths confirmed so far
The United Nation’s human rights office says it has confirmed the deaths of 364 civilians in Ukraine since the Russian invasion began on February 24.
The Geneva-based office said that another 759 civilians had been injured as of midnight Saturday.
The rights office uses strict methodology and only reports casualties it has confirmed. It says it believes the real figures are considerably higher.

In a country crammed with Russians, they were trying to make Russian a second-class language.
Russians who had lived there happily for decades were pressured to take Ukrainian citizenship and adopt Ukrainian versions of their Christian names.
The schools were promoting a national hero, Stepan Bandera, who Russians strongly disliked and regarded as a terrorist.
And they were teaching history which often had an anti-Russian tinge. Quite a few people told me they felt put upon by these policies. Why couldn't they just be left alone?
I know that Ukraine's current government, now treated as if it was almost holy, was brought into being by a mob putsch openly backed by the USA in 2014.
I know that the much-admired President Zelensky in February 2021 closed down three opposition TV stations on the grounds of 'national security'. They went dark that night. I know that the opposition politician Viktor Medvedchuk was put under house arrest last year on a charge of treason. Isn't this the sort of thing Putin does?
I know that Ukraine's army has used severe force against Russian civilians in the Don Basin since 2014. The Russians have done dreadful things there, too, but there are plenty of people who will tell you that. The point is that this is not a contest of saints versus sinners, or of Mordor versus the Shire.
I also find it awkward that, when Britain and the USA rightly denounced Putin's illegal invasion of a sovereign country, they seemed to have forgotten that we gave him the idea, by doing this in Iraq in 2003. Unlike them I can truly claim to have opposed both these actions.
I tire of being told that Nato is purely defensive alliance when we know it bombed Serbia in 1999, incidentally killing civilians, when Serbia had not attacked a Nato member.
I also don't recall Libya attacking a Nato member before that 'defensive' alliance launched the air war on Tripoli which also killed civilians, children included, and turned that country into a cauldron of chaos, benefiting nobody.

Russia planning to bomb port city of Odesa, claims Zelenskyy
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has claimed that Russian forces were preparing to bombard the major port city of Odesa on Ukraine’s Black Sea coast.
“They are preparing to bomb Odesa,” Zelenskyy said in a televised address on Sunday.
“Russians have always come to Odesa. They have always felt only warmth in Odesa. Only sincerity. And now what? Bombs against Odesa? Artillery against Odesa? Missiles against Odesa?” he continued, without elaborating. “It will be a war crime. It will be a historical crime.”

The Russians are intentionally slowing down, getting killed and looking incompetent because they want the REAL invasion to be a surprise!
Tell that to the 1.5 million & counting Ukr's who fled to Poland.

Now you're a military expert as well as a math genius.
Ukraine's fuckup was assuming NATO would come to the rescue. NATO's fuckup is assuming Putin will stop at Ukraine. Russia's fuckup was assuming a show of force would be all that was needed, so the show of force was mostly dilapidated forces in dilapidated vehicles. They didn't think Ukraine would actually fight back.
I am a military expert. I was when I was an intelligence analyst in the army, and I haven't stopped reading since then.
You are... a try hard. In just about any way.

Russia: any country offering airfields to Ukraine will enter conflict
A Russian defense ministry spokesman said Sunday that any country that offers its airfields to Ukraine for attacks on Russia may consider itself as having “involved” in the war.
“We would like to point out that the use of the network of airfields of those countries for the stationing of Ukrainian combat aviation for the further use against the Russian Armed Forces could be viewed as the involvement of those countries in the armed conflict,” spokesman Igor Konashenkov told Interfax news agency.
The warning follows Ukraine’s efforts to obtain MiG fighters from neighboring countries, including NATO allies such as Poland.

You called it!
My original call was "within 30 days or so" on 1-18-22 for a full invasion, because that it what it looked like.
Saw some analysis that said "full scale invasions don't fit into the pattern of their use of force", and moderated my consideration based on that, as the arguments seemed compelling, with the "just swoop in for donbas region and stop" scenario.
I gave Putin a bit more credit than it seems he deserved, and did not foresee that he drank his own Koolaid and would miscalculate so badly with a full on attempt at a country wide Thunder Road run at toppling Zelensky.
I thought the stuff not aimed at Donbas was just for show to threaten UKR with in case they wanted to actively fight back, but walked that back as the signs of imminent movement to the border kept coming. It was obvious that the orders were given and plans made for a full on invasion.

Remember they didn't think they would have to fight. The threat of the big army would just make Ukraine melt, and the government flee.
UKR has been preparing for this for almost eight years. Putin made one of the most classic errors in analysis: "everything is the same as it was the last time". He thought he was going to get Crimea 2.0

Whatever. He also called the sanctions an act of war the other day. At this point he needs to shit or get off the pot. Send Ukraine the Migs and see if Putin is hard enough to do something about it. At this point I think Russia is scared shitless of NATO entering and is hedging their bets that we won't. In fact, he's so insecure about winning a conventional war with NATO that he immediately goes to the nuclear threat. Vladimir Pussy.

We are sending the migs anyway. Putins threat seemed more aimed at making sure that NATO bases were not harboring UKR aircraft as a safe place out of reach of Russian air.

Sooooo the the Brits are going old school for stories, essentially ham radios.
Beneath Lviv in western Ukraine lies a series of tunnels, built 150 years ago when the city was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
As Russia invades Ukraine, people are excavating them in search of shelter - preparing for life underground away from Russian bombs.
-- and urbex enthusiasts, are digging up a 150 year old tunnel network that I would doubt is on modern Russian army maps.

In retrospect Putin really fucked up in 2014. Ukraine was an unstable corrupt country with big pro-russian segment. By cutting away the most pro-russian areas, Putin enabled Ukrainians to consolidate and purge pro-russians out of government and all intelligence and military structures.
Plus supporting Crimea and rebel regions in Ukraine has been costly for Russia.
