[[[One Ukrainian commander who asked not to be named for security reasons said the personnel shortages are having devastating effects on the battlefield.
“If there had been 1,000 to 1,500 more servicemen in Avdiivka (https://cnn.com/2024/02/19/europe/ukraine-russia-war-avdiivka-defeat-intl/index.html), we would have protected the weak spots through which the enemy entered. … If we had more people, we would have held out much longer,” he told CNN of the eastern industrial city, which fell to Russian forces in February after Ukraine held it for more than a decade.
Making the case for a new mobilization, Yurii Sodol, the commander of the Joint Forces of Ukraine’s military, told Ukrainian lawmakers last month that Russian troops outnumbered Ukrainian “seven to 10 times” in eastern Ukraine.
This lack of personnel is putting immense pressure on those who are already serving.
“The war is still going on and mobilization is essential. People who have been fighting for two years are tired. Some are going crazy,” said Yaroslav Galas, who is currently serving with the 128th Mountain Assault Brigade.
“Soldiers need proper rest for several months. They need to heal, relax and forget. They need to spend the money they have earned with sweat and blood, to solve their economic and personal issues,” he told CNN.]]]

Soldiers in Ukraine say US-supplied tanks have made them targets for Russian strikes

Eastern UkraineCNN —
Ukrainian crews working on US-supplied Abrams tanks have told CNN of a series of the weaknesses and flaws with the armored vehicles, calling into doubt their utility on the war’s ever-changing frontlines. The donation was announced by US President Joe Biden as evidence of the United States’ “enduring and unflagging commitment to Ukraine.”
CNN journalists were the first reporters to see the M1 Abrams in Ukraine, at a location in the country’s east, where around six vehicles were visible, hiding in the foliage.
Crews trained in Germany said the vehicles – the US military’s main $10 million battle tank used in Iraq against Saddam Hussein’s forces and insurgents – lacked armor that could stop modern weapons.
“Its armor is not sufficient for this moment,” said one crew member, callsign Joker. “It doesn’t protect the crew. For real, today this is the war of drones. So now, when the tank rolls out, they always try to hit them.”
His colleague, Dnipro, added they are the “number one target.”
“Without defense, the crew doesn’t survive at the battlefield,” he said.]]]

[[[The crew showed CNN their attempts to affix active armor to one damaged tank. They used plates of plastic explosive that, when hit by a round, detonate and provide a protective counter-blast.
All 31 Abrams deployed to Ukraine are engaged near the frontline in the east, according to officials in the 47th Mechanised Brigade, who took receipt of them all. The Ukrainian request for Abrams, complex and heavy tanks, sparked significant debate in early 2023, as the American vehicle has a complex supply chain. Some versions even run on jet fuel.
Pentagon officials said in April that the Abrams were pulled back from the frontline due to the threat of Russian attack drones, although the 47th said some were still in action, despite the deficiencies that had materialized.
Much of the Ukrainian frontline is now dominated by the use of self-destructing attack drones, tiny and accurate devices that can swarm infantry and even cause significant damage to tanks. The advent of these so called First-Person Vision (FPV) drones, flown by soldiers wearing gaming goggles, has changed the nature of the war, limiting movement and introducing a new element of vulnerability to armored vehicles.
This Ukrainian crew have learned of the Abrams’ limitations the hard way, in pitched battles around the town of Avdiivka, which Russia finally took control of in February. A driver lost a leg when the armor was penetrated. Yet it is not just innovation that is hamstringing the tanks — they appear to have technical issues too.]]]

Ammunition is also a problem, like elsewhere on the Ukrainian frontline. They say they seem to have the wrong type for the fight they are in.
“What we have is more for direct tank-to-tank fights, which happens very rarely,” Joker said. “Much more often we work as artillery. You need to take apart a tree-line or a building. We had a case when we fired 17 rounds into a house and it was still standing.”
The tank’s poor performance has been mocked by Russian analysts, dubbing them “empty tin cans.” One model was captured by Russian forces and, damaged, paraded in Red Square.]]]

Not really helping them much. The new arty ammo means that they will be shooting mines on the roads behind them, so as they retreat they will hit mines.
Best estimates I have seen on casualty rates gives them this year to be the year they start running out of old soviet surplus equipment. The burn rate is faster than they can produce for every single thing in their arsenal.
Seen estimates for some of their more widely used APC models that say mid-year for exhausting that surplus, with most of the rest of the equipment within 12 months.
They are losing 20-30+ arty systems a day, so while they may have all the shells their tubes can fire, their tubes are being worn out and destroyed far faster than they can replace them. UKR's new round of arty shells and HIMARS ammo is gonna play hell.
Additionally, we are strarting to see drone on drone dogfights, with fighter drones taking out the RUS orlan surveilance drones.
The drone-space air war is heating up, UKR gets the current edge there, with RUS plodding along developing capability. It is a race, but UKR seems to be managing to stay a step ahead.

[[[NATO “would never” use the Abrams tank the way the Ukrainian military has to use it, a Ukrainian soldier who uses the moniker “Joker” said.

The Ukrainian crew expressed frustration the tanks were made for a NATO style of warfare, in which air power and artillery prepare the battlefield before tanks and infantry advance. Kyiv has long bemoaned its lack of artillery and air power.
“They would never do it,” Joker said, of NATO soldiers undertaking the same advances they make without air support. He switched to English to mimic a NATO soldier: “‘Call the aviation, call the artillery,’” he said. “We have no aviation and artillery. We have only tank. And it’s the problem.”
A spokesperson for the Ukrainian defense ministry told CNN that “Ukraine is now testing and improving equipment that was not initially prepared for our war.”
“We are asking all countries to support us with equipment of any technical capacity levels. We use all of it accordingly,” the spokesperson added.
Biden’s decision to supply the Abrams came after European allies pledged to send their own battle tanks in early 2023 ahead of Ukraine’s failed summer counteroffensive last year, a step that had been deemed unthinkable months earlier.]]]

A Russian strike on a crowded DIY hardware store in Kharkiv killed at least 14 people and wounded dozens more, Ukrainian officials said on Sunday, the death toll rising as the country's second-largest city reeled from two attacks a day earlier.
Two guided bombs hit the Epicentr DIY hypermarket in a residential area of the city on Saturday afternoon, Regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov said on national television.
The strikes caused a massive fire which sent a column of thick, black smoke billowing hundreds of meters into the air.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and the local prosecutors' office said 14 people died, with 44 injured. Prosecutors said 11 of the dead had been identified and seven people were missing.
Syniehubov, in a late-afternoon post on social media, put the death toll at 16.
Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said about 120 people had been in the hardware store when the bombs struck.
The past week has seen an uptick in strikes on the city after Russian troops stormed across the border, opening a new front north of the city.
Russia has bombarded Kharkiv, which lies less than 30 kilometers (20 miles) from its border, throughout the war, having reached its outskirts in a failed bid to capture it in 2022.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy issued a plea to Ukraine's Western allies to help boost air defenses to keep the country's cities safe. French President Emmanuel Macron, writing on social media platform X, denounced the attack on the store as "unacceptable."
A separate early evening missile strike hit a residential building in the center of the city of 1.3 million. The number of people wounded by that strike had climbed to 25 by Sunday morning.
The missile left a crater several meters deep in the pavement at the foot of the building, which also housed a post office, a beauty salon and a cafe.
Emergency workers ushered away residents of nearby apartment buildings. Some of the injured had blood on their faces.
Just over the border, in Russia's Belgorod region, the regional governor said four residents died in Ukrainian attacks on Saturday.
FIREFIGHTERS BATTLE BLAZE
Andriy Kudinov, director of the suburban shopping center, told local media the hardware store was full of shoppers buying items for their summer cottages.
It took 16 hours to fully extinguish the fire at the center, which had raged over an area of 13,000 square meters (15,548 square yards), Interior Minister Klymenko said.
Rescuers, medics and journalists occasionally had to rush away from the scene of both strikes on the city and take cover on the ground, fearing another strike, as has occurred during several recent Russian attacks.
Dmytro Syrotenko, a 26-year-old employee of the DIY center, described panicked scenes.
"I was at my workplace. I heard the first hit and ... with my colleague, we fell to the ground. There was the second hit and we were covered with debris. Then we started to crawl to the higher ground," said Syrotenko, who had a large gash on his face.
Syrotenko told Reuters he was taken to safety by a rescue worker who helped him, several colleagues, and shoppers.
Zelenskiy, in his nightly video address on Sunday, said the strike and carnage prompted widespread condemnation that should lead to "absolutely just consequences" and again underscore the need for Ukraine to secure sufficient air defenses.
"This, in order for us to have enough air defense systems at least to defend Ukraine, our cities," he said. "And so that our partners muster the resolve for preventive defensive actions against Russian terrorists."
Ukraine, he said, would keep pressing its partners to speed up deliveries of F-16 fighter aircraft "to strengthen our defenses against terrorist attacks on our cities and pressure from the Russian army on the front line."
Moscow denies deliberately targeting civilians, but thousands have been killed and injured during its 27-month invasion of Ukraine.

However, only men aged 25 to 60 are subject to mobilization under the new law. The lower limit has been slashed by two years from 27 years, but it’s unlikely to make much difference because of Ukraine’s demographic challenges.

Russia opens a new front: Mapping three key battles in the Ukrainian war
By Lou Robinson (https://www.cnn.com/profiles/lou-robinson) and Sophie Tanno (https://www.cnn.com/profiles/sophie-tanno), CNN
3 minute read

CNN —
Russia has opened up a new front in its invasion of Ukraine, launching a surprise offensive in the northeastern region of Kharkiv after focusing much of their forces this year on the east.
The assault, which began earlier this month, saw thousands of Russian soldiers punch through the northern border, and forced Ukraine to move in troops from other areas to defend positions.
It serves as an example of how Russia has been exploiting Ukraine’s main vulnerabilities: insufficient manpower, artillery shortages, sparse air defenses and inadequate defensive fortifications.
Ukraine’s frontline brigades are clinging on as they desperately await munitions from allies and fresh recruits to provide some much-needed manpower.
CNN has laid out the three key frontiers where fighting is now raging, tracking the marginal gains Russia has made along a frontline which had previously been frozen for months.

In the north, Moscow’s troops are aiming to bring its troops within tube artillery range of Kharkiv city. Along the southern front, the battle is on to recapture villages liberated during Ukraine’s counteroffensive last year and push further into Ukrainian territory.
Ukraine, meanwhile, is racing to fix its current weak spots after finding itself on the back foot as it pledges to fight “house by house, street by street.”
The Kharkiv front
The cross-border assault saw the Russians quickly take control of several villages.
Since then, Russia has ramped up its attacks in the area as it tries to take control of the key settlements of Vovchansk and Lypsti.
Lyptsi, which lies around 30 kilometers north of Kharkiv, is under heavy Russian bombardment. Capturing the large village would allow Russian troops to position artillery within range of Kharkiv city, Ukraine’s second largest, which is already vulnerable to missile attacks, as this weekend’s strike on a hardware store showed. (https://www.cnn.com/2024/05/27/europe/russian-strike-kharkiv-megastore-intl/index.html)
The attack also allows Russia to divert already thinly stretched Ukrainian resources away from other front lines, and to create a buffer zone from Ukrainian attacks on Russian border regions. The nearby Russian city of Belgorod, for instance, has increasingly come under Ukrainian attack in recent months.

The east - Avdiivka and Bakhmut
Before the Kharkiv offensive, Russia had been largely focusing its offensive capabilities in the east, where it had been inching forward since October 2023 as Ukraine’s highly-anticipated counteroffensive floundered last summer. Capturing Ukraine’s eastern industrial heartland – known as the Donbas - remains a major Kremlin goal.
In February, Moscow’s troops notched up a major success along this front when they took the town of Avdiivka. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the decision to pull back was made to “save our soldiers’ lives” and came in the face of constant, heavy Russian bombardment and a ten-to-one shell disadvantage.

[[[The battle for Robotyne
Further to the south, Ukrainian forces are coming under pressure southeast of Zaporizhzhia, one of the few areas where they achieved success, albeit modest in size, in last summer’s counteroffensive.
Both Russian military bloggers and Ukraine’s DeepStateMap report small Russian advances into a pocket of recaptured Ukrainian territory.
Robotyne, a tiny village that is now completely destroyed, has changed hands several times during the war. It was first captured by Russian forces in early March 2022 and Moscow again claimed control over it earlier this month, something denied by Ukraine.
The battle for Robotyne highlights the fluidity of the battlefield and is a stark illustration of the nature of the fighting, with the war being decided in brutal battles for often abandoned villages.]]]

That a country like Ukraine doesn't stand a snowball's chance in hell of defeating Russia. Russia is on par with China and the US in military might. If Russia negotiates it will be because Putin got what he wanted. Sure he wanted it faster, so did GWB when he gave the famous battle won speech from that carrier, but it wasn't over even 20 years later. So if you're willing to call it a win when your entire country is flattened, because you captured a few tanks and trucks, well, you're not really interested in facts. If the US was invaded, the US would turn the tables like we did in Japan after Pearl Harbor, we wouldn't beg for help just because we paid someone's son absurd amounts to bang out 8balls and whores.
Not sure what you think a loss is, if that's a win.
And for sure chirpy will chirp in 3..2..

Warmonger Vladimir Putin (https://www.mirror.co.uk/all-about/vladimir-putin) has won his biggest victory in Ukraine since May 2023 as his forces seized control of the eastern city of Avdiivka.
The Russian flag was raised in the city and Ukraine (https://www.mirror.co.uk/all-about/ukraine)’s military chief confirmed he was withdrawing his troops from the city where outnumbered defenders have battled a Russian assault for four months. This puts the Kremlin's forces on the cusp of their most significant battlefield victory since the capture of Bakhmut last May. "Some soldiers had to walk 7 hours, some were able to ride out but all agree they were lucky to make it out", journalist on-the-ground Madeleine Kelly wrote on X, formerly Twitter (https://www.mirror.co.uk/all-about/twitter).
"What is happening now in Avdiivka is beyond all our understanding. Over the past 24 hours, more than 1,300 Russian servicemen have died", wrote a Russian Telegram channel called Don’t Wait For Me From Ukraine, which monitors Moscow’s military casualties. In a short statement posted on Facebook (https://www.mirror.co.uk/all-about/facebook), Ukrainian commander Col. Gen. Oleksandr Syrskyi said he had decided to avoid encirclement and “preserve the lives and health of servicemen."
The news comes as Putin wins another victory with the death of his fiercest critic and opponent Alexei Navalny. The death of Russia's most well-known and inspiring opposition politician came less than a month before an election that will give President Vladimir Putin (https://www.mirror.co.uk/all-about/vladimir-putin) another six years in power. World leaders and activists were not shy today in blaming the reported death of Navalny on Putin and his government.]]]

Within an hour of being arrested by Russian security forces, Roman Shapovalenko was made naked and threatened with rape.
On August 25, 2022, the day after Ukraine’s Independence Day, he said three armed, masked officers from Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) stormed his home in the southern Ukrainian port city of Kherson (https://cnn.com/2022/11/18/europe/ukraine-kherson-russian-brutality-allegation-intl-cmd/index.html), which was occupied by Russian forces (https://cnn.com/world/europe/ukraine) at the time.
They turned his house inside out searching for incriminating evidence. A message in Shapovalenko’s phone that called Russian soldiers “orcs” — a derisive reference to the evil forces in J. R. R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth books and a popular Ukrainian slur for the Russian army — was enough for them. He said he was tied up, blindfolded and stuffed into an unmarked car.
For days after, Shapovalenko said he was repeatedly electrocuted in his genital area, threatened with being raped with a glass bottle, and was even made to believe he could be sterilized.]]]

Rape and sexual violence are explicitly prohibited by the Geneva Conventions – the set of international laws that regulate the conduct of armed conflict – and can constitute a war crime. Mock execution is considered a form of torture under international law.
Under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC), committing rape and sexual violence in a systematic or widespread way is considered a crime against humanity.
According to Ukrainian prosecutors investigating conflict-based sexual violence and abuse, all available evidence indicates that it is a deliberate tactic, part of Russia’s modus operandi in Ukraine.
“It’s in every region that was under occupation. Everywhere that Russian troops were located, we’re seeing cases of sexual violence and gender-based violence. The bottom line is that it looks like it is Russian policy,” Sosonska said.
As of early May, Ukraine has officially recorded 293 cases of sexual violence, although Sosonska said that it is impossible to estimate the real number of crimes that are being committed, particularly in occupied territories which remain inaccessible to its investigators and prosecutors.

[[[But the real scale of sexual violence committed during the war may never come to light. Only a fraction of victims tend to come forward and, according to the UN, this is especially true for men, some of whom may not initially realize that what happened to them was a sexual violence crime.
Some male victims of sexual violence may describe what happened to them instead as “torture.” The distinction, Sosonska explained, is important for any future court cases and war tribunals. Her office is also trying to educate the public about the fact that men can be victims of sexual violence – something Sosonska said may still not be fully understood.
Anna Mykytenko, who heads the Ukraine team at Global Rights Compliance (GRC), an international legal non-profit, said that Ukrainian witnesses and survivors of sexual violence have testified that Russian troops told them it was a “punishment.”
“In several villages in the south we heard witnesses and survivors say that the Russian servicemen came in, occupied the village, and then looked specifically for the wives of Ukrainian soldiers, or their mothers or sisters,” Mykytenko told CNN. GRC acts as the co-lead of the Atrocity Crimes Advisory Group, an initiative launched by the European Union, the United States and the United Kingdom to provide Ukraine with assistance in the investigation and prosecution of atrocity crimes.
Mykytenko said that while most cases of conflict-related sexual crimes that were reported and investigated earlier in the war concerned female victims, many of the cases recently recorded have been against male victims, especially against men held in captivity.
“Sexual crimes are fairly common in detention centers and it’s very common for prisoners of war or civilians to be threatened with rape or with the sexual abuse of different types, this is something that’s almost normal for the Russian and Russia-related armed forces,” she said.]]]

[[[A systematic approach’The Ukrainian ombudsman’s office told CNN it believes that the Russian armed forces and Ministry of Defense, as well as the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service, are the Russian government bodies officially responsible for what happens inside detention facilities.
However, it is Rosgvardia – a paramilitary police force (https://cnn.com/2022/03/21/europe/russia-vladimir-putin-z-fifth-columnists-intl-cmd/index.html) deployed to keep order in occupied regions of Ukraine – and the FSB that appear to be driving the campaign of torture and sexual violence against the Ukrainian people, according to the ombudsman and Ukraine’s military intelligence service.
Since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022, the FSB has opened several regional offices in occupied Ukraine to recruit agents and gather intelligence. According to an official organizational chart published on its website, the FSB has directorates in the self-declared Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, in Crimea and in the occupied portions of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.
Several survivors in these locations told CNN that the Russians who submitted them to sexual violence either identified themselves or were referred to by others as FSB officers.
Meanwhile, members of Rosgvardia, part of the Russian security apparatus that reports directly to Russian President Vladimir Putin, are working alongside the Russian military to detain activists, quash protests and spread terror among the civilian population in occupied areas.
The SBU, Ukraine’s security service, has managed to track down several Rosgvardia and FSB officials who it said were either the direct perpetrators or the enablers of sexual violence against people held in detention.]]]

[[[The SBU and the Ukrainian regional prosecutor’s office in Kherson have identified Aleksandr Naumenko, the deputy head of Rosgvardia in Russia’s Rostov region, as a suspect in more than a dozen cases. Ukrainian authorities said last May he was responsible for overseeing a detention facility in Kherson during the occupation and that he personally ordered sexual torture of several victims who were electrocuted in their genital areas.
The notice of suspicion against Naumenko, a legal document seen by CNN, alleges that his subordinates and other members of Russian armed forces acted directly on his orders when they sexually abused at least 17 victims.
Two other Rosgvardia officers – Oleksandr Chilengirov and Yehor Bondarenkov – have also been accused of torture, including electrocuting at least 24 victims in their genitals at a different detention facility in Kherson.]]]

Russia is getting even more intrusive. The outcome. Making NATO stronger.
Russia is conducting a wide-scale hybrid warfare campaign targeting NATO states in tandem with Russian efforts to augment its conventional military capabilities in preparation for a potential conflict with NATO. Bloomberg reported on June 3 that Norwegian Chief of Defense Eirik Kristoffersen stated that NATO has a window of two to three years to rebuild its forces and stocks before Russia has rebuilt its own ability to conduct a conventional attack, presumably against NATO.[14] Kristoffersen stated that this expedited time frame is due to Russia's current elevated defense industrial base (DIB) output. Western officials also continue to highlight Russia's current engagement in hybrid warfare activities across Europe. The Financial Times (FT) reported on June 4 that Western governments are trying to formulate a response to the growing series of Russian-backed sabotage attempts on military bases and civilian infrastructure in Europe.[15] FT reported that an unspecified Western defense advisor stated that Russia has a "highly developed lexicon" for hybrid warfare, including information and psychological operations and sabotage. The defense advisor noted that Russia is learning from and adapting its hybrid warfare operations, stating that Russia is "constantly observing" the West's reactions to these hybrid warfare operations and "testing to see which of [Russia's] actions work." FT reported that Russia has resorted to using proxies, such as operatives from criminal gangs, to conduct the sabotage attacks after European governments expelled hundreds of Russian diplomats and spies. NATO and its member states have repeatedly warned about intensifying Russian hybrid operations on NATO member territory.[16]
And also have rejected basic peace treaty. Russia refuses to return children taken during the first part of the war to Ukraine. Basically Russia has decided its economy will be a poor military complex and wants to bring others along in their pitiful degradation.

Outstanding! This nonsensical crap of having rules of war is horseshit. If everybody HAD to fight, sure, I'd go for it, but not when some have to go and some don't. No then. Then it's no mercy till the war is over and then we can be friends again. Anything & everything goes, no mercy. If you don't like arrangement then quit, surrender.

Is huge.
Russia had all kinds of material on the border freely bombing Kharkiv and it is now getting pummeled. The people of Kharkiv can have some time to recover. Russia will have to go back to long range targeting which they have been wildly inaccurate with. They used up so much of their smart long range equipment and cannot get the proper electronics to keep up.

[[[Ukrainian officials say that it is difficult, but not impossible, to track down individual perpetrators of sexual violence crimes. As of early May, Ukrainian prosecutors had issued official notices of suspicion against 42 Russian officers, filed 19 indictments against 28 individuals and sentenced five people. All of the trials took place in absentia, according to the prosecutors’ office.
Sosonska told CNN a handful of cases are added to her file each month, and that investigations are progressing. However, none of the alleged perpetrators are in Ukrainian custody.
Oleksii Butenko, a prosecutor in the Kherson regional prosecutor’s office, said he has no doubt that sexual violence was part of Russia’s strategy to subjugate the Ukrainian people in Kherson and to “destroy the Ukrainian national identity.”
“We can speak of a systematic approach – 17 men were identified as having been sexually abused inside a single torture chamber,” he told CNN. “We can say that the leadership, not only the perpetrators but also the management, is responsible – they gave permission or orders to commit these crimes.”]]]

Russia: Gazprom will need at least a decade to recover the gas sales volumes lost due to sanctions
The Russian energy company Gazprom It is unlikely that it will be able to recover the natural gas sales volumes lost following the invasion of Ukraine within a decade. This was reported in a report commissioned by Gazprom itself and taken up by the British newspaper "Financial Times". The company's exports to Europe will average between 50 and 75 billion cubic meters per year by 2035, just a third of pre-war levels, according to estimates from the Russian energy giant. Although Gazprom hopes that building a new gas pipeline to China – Power of Siberia-2 – will help offset lost European export volumes, its capacity will be only 50 billion cubic meters per year and prices fixed with Beijing they are much lower than those with European countries, as the company's experts note in the report. An agreement on the construction of the connecting infrastructure with China, which should pass through Mongolia, has yet to be reached, Gazprom adds.

Ukraine Hits Largest Petroleum Plant in Russia's South and Oil Depot in Belgorod Region
Kyiv Post sources in Ukraine’s special services confirmed that in the early morning of Thursday, June 6, Ukrainian drones targeted the Novoshakhtinsky petroleum plant in the Rostov region and an oil depot in the Starooskolsky city district of the Belgorod region.
According to the head of the Rostov region, Vasily Golubev, more than 120 rescuers and at least 15 pieces of equipment, including a fire train, were deployed to extinguish the blaze following the strike on the Novoshakhtinsky plant.
The Novoshakhtinsky petroleum plant is the largest supplier of petroleum products in the south of Russia and the only oil refinery in the Rostov region. In April, the refinery in Novoshakhtinsk was also attacked by UAVs.

'Exodus' of Russian Ships From Black Sea Fleet's Reserve Base Sparks Rumors
...
Western intelligence has evaluated that Russia has restricted its activity in the northwestern Black Sea, where Ukraine can more easily threaten its fleet. Kyiv's targeting of Sevastopol has made Novorossiysk a "crucial" port for harboring the Black Sea Fleet's "most valuable assets," the British Defense Ministry said earlier this year.
"Essentially, we have confined the Russian fleet to the Novorossiysk bay," Vasyl Maliuk, the head of Ukraine's SBU security service, said in late May. Reports have also suggested the Kremlin is planning a new military base at the port of Ochamchire in Abkhazia, a breakaway region of Georgia. This would put Russian assets even further from Ukraine's coastline.

[[[It is happening now’Oleksii Sivak knew the Russians were coming for him after his neighbor Shapovalenko, the farm manager, was taken.
The 39-year-old sailor from Kherson had helped him put up Ukrainian flags around their neighborhood on Ukrainian Independence Day.
Both men were civilian volunteers. Shapovalenko had been distributing supplies, helping people evacuate and sharing information about the location of Russian troops with Ukrainian military acquaintances, while Sivak ran a soup kitchen, organizing assistance, distributing leaflets and putting up posters and flags.
“We already knew about these torture rooms; we knew that people do not return from there. I went to deliver soup, warned the people I was helping, cut off all contacts and came home to wait for them,” he said. Hiding or trying to go on the run was not an option, he added, saying he was aware Russian forces were targeting the relatives of people they were interested in.
He said eight men came to arrest him – four in military uniforms and four wearing civilian clothes, all with their faces covered. They took him to a local police station and then handed him over to what they said was the FSB.
He recalled being beaten and tortured with an electric current from the same kind of field telephone described as being used in other detention facilities. “They called it ‘the lie detector’ and they were obviously having fun when spinning the dynamo, asking me ‘do you want to call Zelensky?’” he told CNN in an interview in Kyiv.
“First, they put the clamps on my ears and while they were shocking me, they were also beating me with a stick, kicking me, and hitting me with their hands … then they moved these wires from my ears to my genitals. They said, ‘we’re going to sterilize you now’ and things like that, while they were electrocuting my genitals.” Sivak believes he has a pretty good idea why the Russian troops chose to torture him in the way they did and threatened him with rape.]]]

It's Russia's dirt, 0.
Putin has 20% of it back.
Think of it like this...say Mexico flushes 17 million of their citizens into the U.S...bad example, can never happen. Think of it like this...what's his face up North...takes over Montana, both Dakota's and for good measure Minnesota, claiming it all belonged to Canada since olden days. Bide...I mean Obama wouldn't stand for that,,,he'd make Biden do exactly as he, Hussein told him to do to get it back..."Please give our land back to us. We'll pay all the healthcare for your people, full ride and we'll lump you MIC in with our MIC and we'll pay for the whole kit and caboodle, deal?"

The irony is Russia took Crimea mainly for the good naval base assets it would create.
So then the Russians attack Ukraine, the Ukraine pummels the Naval bases, so the Russians move their fleet away from Crimea to try and keep their fleet intact!?
Some of those Russian ships in Crimea have also gone on "maneuvers" in Cuba just to get them away from the Ukrainian little boat drones that have learned how to bust through the barriers Russia has put up.
Apparently Ukraine as a very large number of these marine drones as they have not only bombed Sevastapol, but also are becoming more successful in blowing them up via the water. They are running out of targets.
Anyways, wonderful planning. Build all these naval facilities and then flee the facilities.
Those sunken ships playing submarine on the ocean floor could produce some good habitat for fish and such.

The irony is Russia took Crimea mainly for the good naval base assets it would create.
So then the Russians attack Ukraine, the Ukraine pummels the Naval bases, so the Russians move their fleet away from Crimea to try and keep their fleet intact!?

How Putin plans to fund a forever war in Ukraine
...
There is one part of this new tax regime, though, that the Kremlin has been at pains to keep quiet. The way in which this collected income tax is redistributed is also about to change: all the extra tax collected from the better offs will not be spent at a local level, as used to be the case. Instead, it will be sent to central government for it spend as it sees fit. In other words, all the extra collected income tax will flow into the Kremlin’s coffers to finance the war in Ukraine.
Pouring into Putin’s war chest alongside the extra personal taxes will also be higher corporate taxes. Corporate income tax will increase to 25 per cent from 20 per cent. From a revenue point of view, this is the most important change the Kremlin is bringing in: the Ministry of Finance has predicted it to generate 1.6 trillion rubles (£14 billion) next year.
Increasing corporate income tax will reduce company profits by an average of 6.3 per cent. Although tax breaks are available when money is spent on scientific research and the development of home-grown technology, be it civil, military or dual-use, these – by definition – apply to only a small number of companies. The trade and service sector – the bulk of medium-sized business in Russia – is unlikely to benefit, as it has neither the money nor the need to spend on science or expensive new technologies.
Small and medium-sized businesses previously exempted from VAT, will now have to pay this tax from revenues exceeding 60 million rubles (£530,000). The state will also collect more money from metal and fertiliser producers through an increased mineral extraction tax.

Ukrainian warplane fires weapon at target inside Russia for first time
A Ukrainian warplane has for the first time fired a weapon that struck a target inside Russia, a Ukrainian military source has told Sky News.
The source said a "Russian command node" was hit on Sunday in the area of Belgorod, western Russia.
Belgorod is close to the border with northeastern Ukraine.
It was not immediately clear what type of munition was used in the attack, including whether or not it had been a Western weapon.
The United States and France recently said the Ukrainian armed forces were permitted to use their arms to strike military targets inside Russia - from where Russian forces are launching attacks against Ukraine.

Russian fighter-bomber crashes after ‘technical fault’
A Russian air force fighter-bomber has crashed during a training flight in North Ossetia, killing both pilots, the defence ministry said on Tuesday.
The Sukhoi Su-34 jet came down “in a mountainous zone” and there was “no damage on the ground”, the ministry said, adding that a technical problem appeared to have caused the crash.
“The plane crashed in a deserted area. There is no destruction on the ground. The crew was killed,” the ministry said.
One Russian channel on the messaging app Telegram reported that residents near the village of Gorny Dzuarikau in North Ossetia heard an explosion in the night.
The Sukhoi Su-34 is a Russian all-weather supersonic fighter-bomber which has been used extensively during operations against Ukraine.
