Fashion Group H&M to Exit Russia Over ‘Impossible’ Situation

Swedish retailer Hennes & Mauritz AB will start winding down its operations in Russia, having halted all sales in the country in March after Russia’s attack on Ukraine.

The two officials dismissed are Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova and State Security Service (SBU) head Ivan Bakanov, a long-time associate of the president.
Zelensky said many officials within both departments were suspected of treason.

"As of today, 651 criminal proceedings have been registered regarding treason and collaboration activities of employees of prosecutor's offices, pretrial investigation bodies, and other law enforcement agencies," he said.

Russian lab head supporting hypersonic missile program held for treason - TASS

The director of a Russian laboratory working on hypersonic missiles, a weapon where President Vladimir Putin claims a strategic advantage for Russia, has been arrested on suspicion of treason, the state-run TASS news agency reported on Friday.

Hypersonic missiles can travel at up to nine times the speed of sound, and Putin has said that Russia's are unmatched and will be deployed with the navy in the next few months.

Andrei Shiplyuk heads the hypersonics laboratory at the Novosibirsk Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics and has in recent years coordinated research to support the development of hypersonic missile systems, according to the institute's website.

Last month, TASS reported that another senior scientist at Shiplyuk's institute, situated in Novosibirsk's Soviet-era Akademgorodok science park, around 2,800 km (1,750 miles) east of Moscow, had also been arrested.

Dmitry Kolker, a doctor of physics and mathematics at Novosibirsk State University specialising in lasers, died of pancreatic cancer last month, shortly after being detained on suspicion of collaborating with Chinese security services.

"Everything is being organized. Full support, full assistance -- both logistical and payments. We only need a decision from the people themselves, who have not yet made it for themselves," he said in his nightly address.

"Today I made a decision to remove the Prosecutor General from office and to dismiss the Head of the Security Service of Ukraine," Zelensky said in his nightly video address.
The two officials dismissed are Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova and State Security Service (SBU) head Ivan Bakanov, a long-time associate of the president.
Zelensky said many officials within both departments were suspected of treason.

"As of today, 651 criminal proceedings have been registered regarding treason and collaboration activities of employees of prosecutor's offices, pretrial investigation bodies, and other law enforcement agencies," he said.

Russian state-run news agency TASS Friday reported that the Director of the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics of the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Siberian Branch Alexander Shiplyuk has been jailed for high treason. According to the institute’s scientific director Vasily Fomin, Shiplyuk is faced with charges of high treason after an investigation into the institute.

Shiplyuk appears to have been working on the aerothermal dynamics of hypersonic aircraft with straight jet engines prior to his arrest. Hypersonic missiles and aircraft are an emerging field, and Russia, China and the US are competing to gain an advantage. According to the Carnegie Endowment, hypersonic weapons “travel at least five times faster than the speed of sound.” On May 28, Russia announced its first successful test of its Tsirkon hypersonic missile, which traveled 1,000 km according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.

Shiplyuk is the second scientist jailed from the lab; Anatoly Maslov was arrested on July 3. The institute released a letter on July 26 in support of Maslov, stating:

"We have to admit that at present the persecution of scientists involved in aviation science is systemic in the country. This is already leading to an unprecedented outflow of young scientists from this area, as well as a decrease in the motivation to carry out scientific research."

There has been a broader crackdown across the scientific field in Russia. A third scientist, Dmitry Kolker, was charged with treason and died of pancreatic cancer while in custody this year. Kolker and Maslov were both professors at Novosibirsk State University (NSU).

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (https://www.cnn.com/2022/03/29/europe/volodymyr-zelensky-fast-facts/index.html) has dismissed two important figures in his government, questioning their leadership qualities and accusing many of their subordinates of treason and collaborating with Russia.

"Today I made a decision to remove the Prosecutor General from office and to dismiss the Head of the Security Service of Ukraine," Zelensky said in his nightly video address.
The two officials dismissed are Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova and State Security Service (SBU) head Ivan Bakanov, a long-time associate of the president.
Zelensky said many officials within both departments were suspected of treason.

"As of today, 651 criminal proceedings have been registered regarding treason and collaboration activities of employees of prosecutor's offices, pretrial investigation bodies, and other law enforcement agencies," he said.

Zelenskyy said on Sunday that corruption was pouring through (https://www.foxnews.com/category/us/crime) the ranks of his government and that the State Bureau of Investigation was undergoing a "full-scale investigation" into officials and law enforcement officers suspected of treason or other nefarious activities.
"As of today, 651 criminal proceedings have been registered regarding treason and collaboration activities of employees of prosecutor's offices, pretrial investigation bodies, and other law enforcement agencies," the Ukrainian president said. "In 198 criminal proceedings, relevant persons were notified of suspicion. In particular, more than 60 employees of the prosecutor's office and the Security Service of Ukraine remained in the occupied territory and are working against our state."

"Everything is being organized. Full support, full assistance -- both logistical and payments. We only need a decision from the people themselves, who have not yet made it for themselves," he said in his nightly address.
