Runs so well in transition. Much better than watch Pau trot up the court.

What's going for him is that he's only 25. So there's so still some upside. Great cheap signing. Ambidextrous like Lee.

Well... is the roster all set now?
Parker/Mills/Murray
Green/Simmons/White/Forbes
Leonard/Gay/Anderson
Aldridge/Bertans
Pau/Lauvergne
14 players. No Manu? White likely to be in G-league.

Lee did grest for us. Offensive rebounds is vital as well. Plus he has some of the best hands and passing for a big. This is a downgrade. Regardless of age gap.

The signing of Joffrey always makes we wonder about Spurs' free agency:
1. Was he one of their initial free agent targets?
2. Has he been sought after before?
3. Signed out of necessity to fill a roster spot?
4. Only player to accept certain offer by team?

1. Was he one of their initial free agent targets?
Doubtful.
2. Has he been sought after before?
Possibly.
3. Signed out of necessity to fill a roster spot?
Most likely. I think tony can speak to some of his attributes and bertans as well. I'm sure they expressed their opinion he might be a good fit for vet min salary.
4. Only player to accept certain offer by team?
He probably is the only option willing to take a vet min at age 25 who might conceivably fit and contribute. So he was one of a few or the only one. Not many options at vet min to be a back up four/five in small ball.
A center will be signed other than pau.

Well..... looking at the roster now, something has to give.
Three real spots remaining and a 2 way contract. The 2 way contract can be disregarded for purposes of whether the spurs sign a center in addition to gasol.
Gasol is coming back. A handshake deal was made a while ago. Patfo may be overrated, but they aren't snakes in the grass. If they made a deal with gasol they aren't going to fuck him over. So he is back unless someone comes along and throws money at him he can't refuse.
Manu is most likely coming back.
So that leaves one spot and a choice between Simmons or another big.
If the spur's bring back Simmons then pop is going to be playing aldridge at center about half his time on the court.
The problem would then become if you sign Simmons and then he takes the spot for an extra big then if aldridge gets traded during the season then the team will have to get a center or big man in return. Otherwise, the roster will be down to two legit big guys, joffrey and pau.
That would be an awful predicament for the spurs to get themselves into.
As much as I hate it, it makes sense to trade danny or another guard if Simmons comes back.

With the way the NBA is today, it makes no sense to trade Danny.
Im very confident Manu will be back for around 4 million.
Simmons will too likely.
And so will Pau.
Front court will likely be
Gay/ Bertans/ Anderson
LMA/ Pau/ Joffrey

Like someone mentioned, even if playing small a lot is the plan, it's hard to not think we add a fourth big. Maybe not, Pop sure didn't play Dedmon much in the playoffs, but the RS is a long one.

It's looking like Dedmon and his agent have really overvalued him, tbh..seems like they're asking for too much, every team that has reportedly contacted him has opted to go with a cheap big instead, so far..

It could be why Forbes is getting so much run over Murray in summer league. I know Forbes is outplaying him, but it is summer league. You would expect Murray to get as many reps as possible. Could be Forbes is going to get cut so they are looking to at least get a 2nd round pick for him in a trade. I can't believe they would go into the season without at least 4 bigs.

The rumor is that Spurs wanted a big but was undercut by Utah. So they got a guard. Which is one guard too many!
Forbes play in SL is impressive because in the last game, he scored by getting contact instead of in the 3 point line. So that says he's got some versatility in his offense.
If you remember the last two SL leagues, Spurs played Anderson a ton. They are doing the same with Forbes, he looks exhausted out there but he still is able to put up numbers. In contrast, Spurs barely play Murray. He sat out one game and played only one half in the last game. Perhaps he's not healthy.
The next couple of days are going to be key. Spurs need to know if Simmons is signed. Ginobili may likely come back, heck if Vince Carter can come back then he is going to do the same! I am sure there's till that 76'er offer for him to play over there. The Kings have realized that you want to have your talent surrounded with vets for them to learn the game (Hill, ZBo and VC). So other teams are valuing that presence too and are willing to pay top dollar for 'the education'.

Very significant that Murray has played very little while looking like a guy who needs a lot of practice and repetition. It's very strange. I hadn't seen that previously from a summer league stint.

I seem to recall George Hill dominating in his second summer league, Kyle Anderson played really good in his second summer league, Kawhi, in his second season dominated the summer league and got pulled out early. Even Bryn Forbes is killing it this year. Murray, I'm not sure what is going on with him. He looks really bad.

B..b...but we don't know what the final roster will look like although what we do know is that we only have two true bigs on our roster! Why would we ever assume he's penciled in to the rotation after RC essentially said he was during the POR/SA game?!
How many "true" bigs do we need? 6'7 is the new center. If anything, we were ahead of our time with Dejuan Blair.

I don't disagree. But simply LMA:lol and Gasoft probably won't cut it. Lauvergne seems to be that 3rd big to me. I expect the Spurs to go small the rest of the way.
Also, you need bodies when guys get in foul trouble. So, yeah, 3 bigs seems about right. Maybe one more is signed.

Yeah, I haven't seen anything that indicates he got more than a minimum deal. So, your post makes total sense. Well, no it doesn't.
We still don't know what's happening with the other bigs. Gotta assume Pau is back, and it's very quiet on the Dedmon front too. But it's crazy that people are penciling this guy in for a rotation spot when we don't even know what our final roster looks like.
I read it was for 3 million but, even if that isn't true, it doesn't make your post any less stupid.
lol Lauvergne in Austin.
I read that it was a 2 year deal and the $3M could be accurate - and still be for the minimum (considering that a minimum 2yr deal for him would be $3.1M).

Perhaps the 76ers can rescue us from ourselves this time.

Hypothetical: Gasol, Dedmon, Manu all come back.
You could have a front court rotation of:
C: Aldridge, Gasol, Dedmon
PF: Gay, Bertans, Aldridge
Where does Joffrey get playing time? A guy on a minimum deal with no minutes floating around in the front court? I could easily see them shipping him to Austin to get PT and learn the Spurs system fully. Could even see it if Dedmon isn't back.

A real head scratcher. When white was drafted my first reaction was wtf but then thought I guess this means that two of manu, patty and/or simmons would be gone.
But it looks like at least two of those three return and the spurs are short on bigs. Bell or another big like Bolden was the proper route when viewing the draft in hindsight with the current roster.

It's a wasted pick. It's a wasted roster spot. Wasted years. It's not about being picky but making the best pick you can.
The FO lost out on Bradley, so RC listened to his friend Ted and took White. It was obvious to some like me and MaNu4Tres that White wasn't the right pick. Bell was a steal, some of us knew that, and so did the Warriors.

I was also very interested in Bolden as I've watched his Dad play here in the Australian League. I haven't really watched the Australian league for years (ever since I've had access to the NBA haven't followed it much), but when I used to watch it both Dave Simmons and Bruce Bolden were good players in this league. Bolden, I think could have been a great pick for the Spurs if they didn't want Bell for whatever reason. I hope I don't end up hating White for the front office potentially fucking up.

RC fucked up in the draft last year by picking the wrong point guard while a certain 2x ACC DPOY / ACC POY / 1st team All American was still available on the board and telling the whole fucking world that he's a Spurs fan.
This year, RC tried to make up for that bungle by drafting a poor man's version of that guy they should've picked last year, thus missing out on other immediate contributors like Bell in the process.

I think White is a good shooter, and talked myself into liking him because everyone thought that meant Mills was gone.
But it's obvious that the Spurs were keeping Parker and overpaid Mills no matter what ... Then why draft White?

Not much you can do about our draft picks now.
The league is getting smaller, obviously.
I have not seen much of Derrick White, but I have liked what I have seen when I have. I don't get what the complaints are about him. I think he plays off the ball well that he can transition into a shooting guard in certain lineups, and has a pretty good feel for the game with the ball in his hands with good court vision. Just like Murray, he seems like he loves basketball & wants to get better. I forgot where I heard this on either it was ESPN radio, or a podcast. They were talking with a well know NBA personnel, and he mentioned that there is a lot of "bad" basketball players in the league when you think about. That there's a lot of players in the league that are talented, but don't know how to play the game right. Something in those lines...I think White will fall in that category of guys that play the game right.
Murray has the talent, and has looked good against guys who will be playing from late October - mid June. He seems to have a great worth ethic, and will surely know from Pop & the coaching staff on the things he struggled on in the summer league. He will find his rhythm again.
I was not on board with bringing back Mills, but I get it. Money might be a bit, but that will be the going rate for pretty good backup point guard, which he is. Mills has played well when it has mattered. Teams really respect his shot. Great locker room guy, and teammate. Leonard, and him get along very well. Mills could be someone to keep Leonard in town for those worried that he may leave.
You can see the offensive talent in Forbes, that has me a little excited. You can't teach that type of shooting he possesses. He won't be a 20ppg scorer in the NBA, but I can see him easily being a 15ppg scorer at some point. Great find by the Spurs staff!
Bertans is fine, and a really good find for a second round draft stash that seemed to only learn how to shoot when we drafted him. I am looking forward to seeing if he takes another step forward with his prime coming up.
You are not going to hit on every pick. Mr. "draft wise" Sam Presti screwed up on McGary, Payne, even if they did get PG13, Sabonis did not look like anything special for a lottery pick. For god sake he traded a top five player in the league, and pretty good player in Reggie Jackson :lol
I'm not big fan of Gay, or Lauvergne, but we will be fine. Back off the ledge :toast

There are a lot of players that a lot of teams misread on draft. That doesn't make the spurs a failure. Murray still could be the best PG in the draft. Rookie of the year means little. Remember MCW?

Dudes are way to emotional on this board; white nor bell has even scratched the surface of what they might end up becoming👌🏿 Let it play out
Bell definitely has a following. I was as neutral as they com bc I didn't bother with the draft this season. I thought they'd stash.
Anyways, I think it's not only about the players (though Bell fandom is a factor) but for some more neutral like me it's really about redundancies with so many similar guards in the roster, one in a multiple year long term contract. It doesn't make much sense except to think Spurs are fishing and seeing what comes out of these guards, letting the league weed them out.

I wonder why is so hard for some fans here to admit that other teams have drafted and developed players in last years with lower picks, better than the Spurs.
Other teams are getting the best out of their young guys while those same players wouldn't see minutes in SA because the Spurs are replete with 37 and 40 years old guys.
If they would have drafted Jorkic (#41) instead of Kyle (#30) they wouldn't have selected Lalanne the next year...Also, they wouldnt have these current bigs issues with old Pau and Lauvergne.
I wouldn't call Murray (#29 pick) the best PG of that draft when Brodgon (#36) already had a great season.
But it's fine, we can say the Spurs are doing great this offseason...After all they never make mistakes.

Series isn't over (yet) obviously, but might as well get this warmed up.
Poo needs to diaf.
-LMA should be dangled to see what can be had for him, but otherwise keep him.
LMA dangled, but nothing came of it. If he remains disgruntled gone for nothing at end of the season.
-Parker needs to be moved to the bench, but still has something.
Unfortunately "had" something. Still to be determined whether he has that something again, unfortunately.
-Manu needs to be taken out back and shot.
He ended up finding his shot after this sentiment, but it cannot be ignored he looked ancient and went scoreless for 5 playoff games at 39. If he's back, how do you think he will do at 40?
-Green will be fine as long as the Spurs get a new penetrating PG. Not sure you can move him anyway since his D is so important.
Green is not much of a factor if the team doesn't have stars.
-Kawhi needs to work a bit on his handles and handling physical defenders
Kawhi will probably be fine, or better than fine.
-Mills, Dedmon, Simmons, and Lee can leave
Dedmon and likely Lee obliged not bc of PATFO but they wanted to get paid more, most likely. Mills returned for 4 years :wowSimmons is still shopping himself around bc he wants THE contract.
-Get Bertans and Murray some consistent damn playing time
:pop: WE shall see. It cannot be overstated that they haven't been playing well lately when asked to have amplified roles in summer league.

Free-agent swingman Thabo Sefolosha has agreed to a two-year, $10.5 million deal with the Utah Jazz (https://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/uth/), league sources told The Vertical.
Utah would like to add another forward and a center to back up Rudy Gobert (http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/g/goberru01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-), Jones relays. The Jazz are trying to trade veteran big man Boris Diaw (http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/d/diawbo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-), whose $7.5MM salary for the upcoming season doesn’t become fully guaranteed until Saturday. If they can’t find a trade partner, they are expected to waive Diaw before the end of the week.
Jones mentions three free agents that Utah is targeting: small forward Dante Cunningham (http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/c/cunnida01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-), who spent last season with the Pelicans, power forward Ersan Ilyasova (http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/i/ilyaser01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-), who was traded from the Sixers to the Hawks at the February deadline, and center Willie Reed (http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/r/reedwi02.html?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-), who is coming off a breakthrough season as a backup with the Heat.

Pop won't have the time to hold their hands and give each one his personal attention. They are professionals who will need to take care of their own development to justify playing time. Kawhi merely took Chip's advice and went away to work on his jump shot. Forbes similarly put in the hard work himself without much babysitting.
Many of the high IQ guys in the league have shown progress in their game (i.e. Malcolm Brogdon, Deandre Bembry). In that vein, Derrick White should be fine, as he has displayed similar track record of improvements. It's now time for Murray to show everyone whether he has the same IQ to realize his physical potential.

Good points no doubt.
I hope Spurs throw them to the sharks and see if they can swim or have some bite back. The reason? If they are pretenders anyway, why burnout Manu (if he's back) or Tony as he's rehabbing with urgency. If these guys don't get it together the team as whole is not going to have that much upside let's be honest.

Thanks for posting that. Durant was super pissed. Westbrook eyes were hilarious. Good stuff.

That was hilarious. KDs mom had a sense of humor about it.
the truth hurts. it stings. Westbrook looked like he was holding back his laughter too.

If the Spurs are able to trade Aldridge, then getting Diaw for the minimum may still be a good thing.

it seems his mom is always a foot away from him, he needs to cut the umbilical cord at some point. In fact I could say that about a few warriors

I can just imagine Durant going back to his house and caressing his championship ring Gollum-style.

I think Melo and Kawhi would play good basketball together. I don't think the Spurs would want Melo and yeah Knicks probably don't want LMA. What I don't get is why Melo to Houston is a good idea, it isn't.
I want him to go to hou so we can watch it not work...hopefully they send Anderson. He shoots too well at AT&T.
