Why did Cohen drop the lawsuit, TSA?
"The decision to voluntarily discontinue these cases was a difficult one," Cohen's attorney David Schwartz told*Politico. "We believe the defendants defamed my client, and vindicating Mr. Cohen’s rights was—and still remains—important. But given the events that have unfolded, and the time, attention*and resources needed to prosecute these matters, we have dismissed the matters, despite their merits."

Explosive: The Russian mafia ran U.S. operations out of a club partially owned by Trump's 'lawyer' (https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2018/4/18/1758063/-Explosive-The-Russian-mafia-ran-U-S-operations-out-of-a-club-partially-owned-by-Trump-s-lawyer)
Now there are explosive new details about his so-called attorney, Michael Cohen, who just so happened to grow up in a rather exclusive NYC club that was known as the preferred meeting spot of the Russian mob in the U.S. You cannot make this stuff up. From Talking Points Memo: (https://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/good-grief-cohens-gets-mobbier-the-closer-i-look)
According to published reports, in the 70s and early 80s, the boss of the Russian mob in New York (and for practical purposes the whole U.S) was a man named Evsei Agron. Things ended badly for Agron when was gunned down in a mob hit in 1985.
After Agron was assassinated, his organization was taken over by under-boss Marat Balagula.
Authorities believed Balagula was behind Agron’s killing. But he was never charged with the crime.
Balagula ran things until 1991 when he was convicted of gasoline bootlegging. Nayfeld had been the bodyguard and enforcer for both Agron and Balagula, one would say more successfully in the latter case than the former.
He took over the organization when Balagula went to prison.
What I didn’t realize until now is that both Agron (https://books.google.com/books?id=F1IqGCc7P8cC&pg=PT33&lpg=PT33&dq=Marat+Balagula+el+caribe&source=bl&ots=OI36fEqiAW&sig=kpev0Ln1l8LARf4kWM0YYpvIM5s&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiCiuC5msLaAhVhu1kKHRZeAngQ6AEIXzAL#v=on epage&q=Marat%20Balagula%20el%20caribe&f=false) and his successor Balagula (http://www.nydailynews.com/newswires/new-york/notorious-russian-mobster-home-article-1.3783151) ran their operations out of an office in the El Caribe social club.
So the El Caribe wasn’t just a mob hangout.
From the 70s through the 90s at least, the bosses of the Russian mafia in the U.S. literally ran their crime organization out of the El Caribe.
So Michael Cohen’s uncle Morton Levine’s social club was the headquarters of Russian organized crime in the U.S.

The shift gives some breathing room for Mueller, as well as Rosenstein, who has been criticized strongly by House Republicans for being slow to comply with requests for classified documents. Last week’s meeting was set up in part to allow Rosenstein to assuage Trump’s frustration with his decisions.
At the same time, Rosenstein’s message may have been based on a technicality. Trump may not officially be a target, but Mueller hasn’t ruled out making him one at some point in the future, according to a U.S. official with knowledge of the unfolding investigation.Crafty move either way.

The story does not, actually, say that Michael Cohen was, in fact, in Prague at the relevant time. It says that Mueller’s investigation has developed some evidence that he was in Prague.

And I’m skeptical that they have evidence of that. I believe they have evidence that Cohen is involved in some criminal activity, which is why they handed it off to SDNY.

A better question would be why do we have such a broad timeline on an alleged meeting with Kochasev? We know all the specifics except exactly when it happened? "Sometime in August or early September according to anonymous sources"? Sounds like bullshit just like the Steele Dossier. Just prove Cohen went to Prague one time since he has denied ever going. Simple.

i'm sure the government would have to pinpoint an exact date if they were to prove it, so i wouldn't worry about that :lol... he's not going to get convicted for being there "at some point in time"

Washington, D.C. – Today House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Ca.), House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), and House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) issued the following statement:
“We have long argued former Director Comey’s self-styled memos should be in the public domain, subject to any classification redactions. These memos are significant for both what is in them and what is not.
Former Director Comey’s memos show the President made clear he wanted allegations of collusion, coordination, and conspiracy between his campaign and Russia fully investigated. The memos also made clear the ‘cloud’ President Trump wanted lifted was not the Russian interference in the 2016 election cloud, rather it was the salacious, unsubstantiated allegations related to personal conduct leveled in the dossier.
The memos also show former Director Comey never wrote that he felt obstructed or threatened. While former Director Comey went to great lengths to set dining room scenes, discuss height requirements, describe the multiple times he felt complimented, and myriad other extraneous facts, he never once mentioned the most relevant fact of all, which was whether he felt obstructed in his investigation.
The memos also make certain what has become increasingly clear of late: former Director Comey has at least two different standards in his interactions with others. He chose not to memorialize conversations with President Obama, Attorney General Lynch, Secretary Clinton, Andrew McCabe or others, but he immediately began to memorialize conversations with President Trump. It is significant former Director Comey made no effort to memorialize conversations with former Attorney General Lynch despite concerns apparently significant enough to warrant his unprecedented appropriation of the charging decision away from her and the Department of Justice in July of 2016.
These memos also lay bare the notion that former Director Comey is not motivated by animus. He was willing to work for someone he deemed morally unsuited for office, capable of lying, requiring of personal loyalty, worthy of impeachment, and sharing the traits of a mob boss. Former Director Comey was willing to overlook all of the aforementioned characteristics in order to keep his job. In his eyes, the real crime was his own firing.
The memos show Comey was blind to biases within the FBI and had terrible judgment with respect to his deputy Andrew McCabe. On multiple occasions he, in his own words, defended the character of McCabe after President Trump questioned McCabe.
Finally, former Director Comey leaked at least one of these memos for the stated purpose of spurring the appointment of Special Counsel, yet he took no steps to spur the appointment of Special Counsel when he had significant concerns about the objectivity of the Department of Justice under Attorney General Loretta Lynch.
As we have consistently said, rather than making a criminal case for obstruction or interference with an ongoing investigation, these memos would be Defense Exhibit A should such a charge be made.”

Manafort was under investigation because Mueller suspected he was Trump's back channel to Russia (https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2018/4/19/1758452/-Manafort-was-under-investigation-because-Mueller-suspected-he-was-Trump-s-back-channel-to-Russia)
Paul Manafort’s attorneys have been arguing in court that in prosecuting Manafort, Special Counsel Robert Mueller has exceeded his authority (https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2018/3/21/1750880/-Paul-Manafort-swings-for-the-fences-tries-to-end-Manafort-s-investigation-in-court).
The idea that Mueller was in the weeds is completely belied by the letter that Mueller’s team produced (https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2018/4/3/1754052/-Memo-reveals-that-investigation-into-Manfort-is-a-fraction-of-Mueller-s-additional-authority),
showing the Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein had specifically authorized Mueller to investigate the areas for which Manfort is being prosecuted.
But as Manafort’s legal team has continued in their attempts to find some way to invalidate the charges—
other than demonstrating Manafort’s innocence, which seems patently impossible—
it has spurred additional information from the DOJ on just why Mueller was looking at Manafort. (https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-04-19/manafort-probed-as-back-channel-to-russia-u-s-lawyer-says)
Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s interest in former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort stemmed in part from his suspected role as a “back channel” between the campaign and Russians intent on meddling in the election, a Justice Department lawyer told a judge.
Previously, all the dots were in place.
Manafort had connections to Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska.
He had contact with Deripaska during the campaign,
as well as contact with convicted attorney Alex van Der Zwaan,
who is not only the son-in-law of a prominent Russian banker,
but also a link to “Person A,” who has been identified as GRU agent Konstantin Kilimnik.
Which means that Manafort’s charges are not just related to Mueller’s investigation.
They’re the primary reason there was an investigation in the first place.
What Paul Manafort did, is exactly what the FBI set out to find when they started looking at the Trump campaign.

As FBI director, Comey could declassify material, no?
As a side, I dont think you can blame or charge Comey with something that wasn't classified at the time he shared his memo with his friend. You cant retroactively classify the memos and then point the fingers at Comey for releasing classfied material when he didn't.
One of the memos contained information that wasn’t classified when Comey turned it over to a Columbia law school professor, but was later upgraded to “confidential,” the lowest level of classification, The Wall Street Journal reported (https://www.wsj.com/articles/justice-department-watchdog-probes-comey-memos-over-classified-information-1524243505).
In the other, Comey redacted parts that he knew were classified to protect that information before he handed the documents over to the law prof, Daniel Richman, who passed them along to The New York Times.
Looks like Comey knew how to cover his bases.

Dan Abrams: Comey Memos ‘Are Devastating to President Trump’
Dan Abrams said on Good Morning America Friday James Comey‘s newly-released memos suggest President Donald Trump is lying about his conversations with the former FBI director.
“If you take the Comey memos at their word, they’re devastating to President Trump with regard to whether he’s telling the truth.
He wrote these at the time —
let’s remember when these memos were written —
they were written at a time when James Comey presumably wasn’t worried about his job.
And they detail conversations the president says never happened.
If these conversations did happen,
and it sure looks like they did based on these contemporary memos,
it means that the president is lying.”

It is kinda obvious Dr. Maddow was a sharp person from the first couple times I watched her show. She has to deal with the grind of finding something to talk about for a periodic show, but still the quality of her analysis, even through any bias, is still pretty good.

Cohen’s lawyer says this is not about my client’s personal life. Can we put the last part of the transcript back up? He says there are five paragraphs in attachment A that deal with seeking the papers of the President of the United States that are in possession of my client. This case is that. Now, we the public don’t know what attachment a is. We haven’t yet seen attachment a. We think it’s probably either the search warrant that a judge signed to seize stuff for Michael Cohen or maybe in support of that search warrant.
But in any case, I mean presume why someday we’ll see attachment a. This lawyer is saying what the FBI was after when they searched his office, hotel room, all of it, what they were after was information pertaining directly and individually to the president as spelled out in a five paragraph long description of what the FBI was going to seize. So this case is not just oh, trouble for the president’s lawyer who you have seen on TV. This is about the president directly, which may be why the people directly involved in this case appear to be a little rattled as this thing continued to unfold. But as I said, this is unfolding in New York where prosecutors have gotten very very good because they have had lots and lots of experience nailing people in public corruption cases.
