CNN panel appalled by Trump’s ‘jaw-dropping’ declaration that meeting Putin will be easier than meeting allies

“I have NATO, I have the UK, which is somewhat in turmoil, and I have Putin,” Trump said.

“Frankly, Putin may be the easiest of them all – who would think?”

“Vladimir Putin, to say that he’s a competitor, to say it’s too early to say what his intentions are, we have plenty of documentation,” Avlon said.

“This is the president continuing to keep Putin close. And

to say that Putin is a friendlier, easier meeting than with our oldest allies in the world

is simply jaw-dropping.”
Avlon then hinted that we should be suspicious of Trump’s continued love affair with Putin — and whether there is anything deeper behind it.

“He’s sticking to that line [with Putin],” he said. “You have to ask yourself: ‘Why?'”

Why slowly? Once you say they're active DEA and ATF agents, you gotta act really quickly.

Of course, you would act quickly only if you really had something.

Special Counsel Mueller asks for Another Delay in Flynn Sentencing – Judge Sullivan Appears Annoyed…

https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2018/06/29/special-counsel-mueller-asks-for-another-delay-in-flynn-sentencing-judge-sullivan-appears-annoyed/

The federal judge who will sentence former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn put no pressure on special counsel Robert Mueller's team to wrap their investigation at a court hearing Tuesday morning, keeping Flynn in purgatory as he awaits his sentencing.

Judge Emmet Sullivan said he simply wanted to meet Flynn, his attorneys and prosecutors for the first time at the hearing the judge had called....

....Sullivan told both sides several times that he placed no pressure on them to wrap up quickly. Both sides must update the judge on a possible sentencing date in late August. They could also delay again. "If August 24 comes and you want more time, that's fine with me," Sullivan said.

WASHINGTON – An attorney for Michael Flynn says the former national security adviser is "eager" to proceed to sentencing and put his criminal case behind him.
Attorney Robert Kelner made the comments during a court hearing Tuesday before U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan. It was the first time Flynn had appeared in court since his guilty plea last year to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russian officials during the presidential transition and his Turkish lobbying work.
Kelner says Flynn wants to put this "chapter" behind him, but special counsel Robert Mueller's team has requested an additional delay while the retired U.S. Army general continues to cooperate with the Russia investigation.

Sullivan agreed to the delay Tuesday, saying he didn't want to "micromanage" Flynn's cooperation with prosecutors.

Fox News’ Chris Stirewalt: Trump is Gonna Fly Into NATO ‘Like a Seagull’ and ‘Defecate All Over Everything’

“He is going to defecate all over everything, squawk and fly away is what he’s going to do in Brussels.”

“Oh no,” Shannon Bream reacted.

“And the Europeans are going to continue to say to each other,

‘We don’t have a reliable partner in the U.S. government right now.

We don’t think this is really a working relationship plus we have a trade were going with them,'” Stirewalt added.

“The president will succeed,

whether it’s temporary or lasting,

realigning U.S. foreign policy

away from Europe and toward Moscow.

It’s going to happen and Republicans like Corker better quit kidding themselves that they have a tether on this guy.”

CIA analyst says ‘republic is burning’ because American institutions are not up to battling Trump’s authoritarianism

The United States was not designed to withstand the sort of authoritarian onslaught we’re seeing from Donald Trump, former CIA analyst Nada Bakos warned on Wednesday night.

Appearing on Don Lemon’s CNN program, Bakos expounded upon a tweet where she warned that “the republic is burning.”

Bakos said that American democracy is in a very fragile state.

“Now we see how weak these institutions are it comes up against authoritarian measures,” she said.

“The institutions themselves aren’t built for this.

Our democracy is fragile enough right now because of the erosion that’s happened.

W’re starting to see and not feel quite impactfully as we should some of the things that authoritarians have typically done throughout the years.”

The problem, Bakos said, is that

the Constitution designed our government to have checks and balances—and

they have failed under the Republican Party’s failure to hold President Trump accountable.

“This is what happens in every country before the fall.

Some people say, people are being alarmists, everybody’s overreacting.

When things are starting to crumble people literally say ‘Our institution’s too strong, people can stand up against this,”

I thought the no prisoners are allowed to send or recieve emails was an issue. The fact he "found" a workaround could mean he did commit some type of violation. It is not clear how he found the workaround. Or maybe I missed it.

At any rate, looks like Manafort is testing the limits and team Mueller is mad about it.

Merkel Asks Mueller If There’s Anything She Can Do to Help

BRUSSELS —The German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, took a break from the nato summit in Brussels on Wednesday to ask the independent counsel, Robert Mueller, if there is anything she can do to help.

According to those familiar with the phone conversation,

Merkel told Mueller that

she would take a leave of absence as leader of the German government and

move to Washington to work full-time for Mueller “if that would be of assistance.”

Touting her credentials, Merkel told Mueller that she was fluent in Russian

and could be helpful in translating the thousands of Russian-language documents that the special counsel has in his collection of evidence.

“I will work for free and pay my for my own food,” Merkel said. “I just want to make this stop.”

Mueller reportedly thanked Merkel for her offer but told her

he had to wrap up their conversation because he had “Emmanuel Macron on the other line.”

Manafort loses bid to stay in 'VIP' jail, could face evidence from 1980s

U.S. President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort

may face evidence at trial about alleged wrongdoing in the 1980s and

lost a bid to stay at a jail where he said he was being treated like a “VIP,” court papers on Wednesday showed.

The developments came as Manafort gets closer to two trials where he will defend himself against a number of charges ranging from bank fraud to failing to register as a foreign agent for lobbying work for pro-Russia politicians in Ukraine.

Ellis denied Manafort’s request and ordered him moved to the Alexandria Detention Center,

rejecting the notion that he would not be safe there.

The Alexandria jail had experience with high-profile defendants “including foreign and domestic terrorists, spies and traitors,” Ellis wrote.

Twitter’s wiping tens of millions of accounts from its platform

If you see a decline in your Twitter (https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2018/7/7/17544344/donald-trump-twitter-bots-delete-your-account) following over the next few days, you can blame, well, Twitter — and

the fact that those accounts probably weren’t real in the first place.

Starting this week, Twitter will begin removing (https://blog.twitter.com/official/en_us/topics/company/2018/Confidence-in-Follower-Counts.html) tens of millions of suspicious and fake accounts from its platform’s follower counts in an effort to clean up the site.

Specifically, it will remove locked accounts — suspicious accounts it puts a temporary lock on until owners validate them and change their passwords.

According to the New York Times (https://www.nytimes.com/2018/07/11/technology/twitter-fake-followers.html), this change will result in users collectively losing tens of millions of followers.

It will reduce the total combined Twitter follower count by an estimated 6 percent,

Russian Influence Campaign Sought To Exploit Americans' Trust In Local News

Russia's information attack against the United States during the 2016 election cycle sought to take advantage of the greater trust that Americans tend to place in local news.

The information operatives who worked out of the Internet Research Agency in St. Petersburg did not stop at posing as American social media users or spreading false information from purported news sources, according to new details.

They also created a number of Twitter accounts that posed as sources for Americans' hometown headlines.

NPR has reviewed information connected with the investigation and found 48 such accounts.

They have names such as @ElPasoTopNews, @MilwaukeeVoice, @CamdenCityNews and @Seattle_Post.

The Russia Investigations: Mueller Indicts The 'Internet Research Agency' (https://www.npr.org/2018/02/17/586698361/the-russia-investigations-mueller-indicts-the-internet-research-agency)

"A not-insignificant amount of those had some sort of variation on what

appeared to be a homegrown local news site,"

said Bret Schafer, a social media analyst for the Alliance for Securing Democracy, which tracks Russian influence operations and first noticed this trend.

Another example:

The Internet Research Agency created an

account that looks like it is the Chicago Daily News. That newspaper shuttered in 1978.
The Internet Research Agency-linked account was created in May 2014, and for years, it just posted local headlines, accumulating some 19,000 followers by July 2016.

(https://www.npr.org/sections/national-security/)Mueller Indictment Of Russian Operatives Details Playbook Of Information Warfare (https://www.npr.org/2018/02/17/586690342/mueller-indictment-of-russian-operatives-details-playbook-of-information-warfare)

Another twist:

These accounts apparently never spread misinformation.

In fact, they posted real local news, serving as sleeper accounts building trust and readership for some future, unforeseen effort.

"They set them up for a reason.

And if at any given moment,

they wanted to operationalize this network of what seemed to be local American news handles,

they can significantly influence the narrative on a breaking news story,"

Schafer told NPR.

"But now instead of just showing up online and flooding it with news sites,

they have these accounts with two years of credible history."

Twitter caught these Internet Research Agency accounts in the act and suspended them.

(https://www.npr.org/sections/national-security/)The Russia Investigations: What You Need To Know About Russian 'Active Measures' (https://www.npr.org/2018/04/25/586099619/the-russia-investigations-what-you-need-to-know-about-russian-active-measures)

The discovery and suspension of the local accounts suggests two things as investigators continue to build their understanding about

Russia's campaign of active measures (https://www.npr.org/2018/04/25/586099619/the-russia-investigations-what-you-need-to-know-about-russian-active-measures?preview=) against the United States and the West.

First, that the Russian misinformation project was a years-long effort,

one that wasn't simply focused on the 2016 election but on destabilizing the United States over an extended period of time.

"The Russians are playing a long game. They've developed a presence on social media.

They've created these fictitious persons and fictitious organizations that have built up over a period of time a certain trustworthiness among people that follow them,"

said Rep. Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House intelligence committee.

Second, the failed effort to create local news accounts also says something about how Americans trust local news sources more than national news —

and how the Russians evidently knew about that vulnerability.

A Pew survey (http://www.journalism.org/2016/07/07/trust-and-accuracy/) from 2016 found that

82 percent of Americans have "some" or "a lot" of confidence in local news organizations.

"If you're trying to pass along information that is not true but you want people to believe it,

creating or inventing fake local news sources is an effective way of doing it

because people will convey some trust to the locality even if the publication is one they've never seen before."

said Tom Rosenstiel, the executive director of the American Press Institute.

Russia's Election Meddling Part Of A Long History Of 'Active Measures' (https://www.npr.org/2017/05/23/528500501/lies-forgery-and-skulduggery-the-long-history-of-active-measures)

Though this particular effort to exploit local news failed, the Russian misinformation campaign continues now.

"This effort is not over," said Sen. Susan Collins, a Republican on the Senate intelligence committee.

"It continues to this very day, where the Russians are trying to sow the seeds of discontent in our society, take advantage of the polarization that exists."

https://www.npr.org/2018/07/12/628085238/russian-influence-campaign-sought-to-exploit-americans-trust-in-local-news?sc=tw

That's right. The optics were terrible for the GOPers. No one is talking about how Peter Strzok is the bad guy. The republicans pretty much blew that narrative up along with themselves today.

Sure they are, in the Republican echo chamber. That's the only purpose of the grandstanding shitshow that Gohmert and others put on, it makes great video clips on Fox News for useful idiots like Darrin to lap up and reaffirm their perspective.

But everyone overrates just how much the average American is following any of this.

Ex-FBI agent Clint Watts explains how GOP lawmakers have been turned into Russian pawns

Former FBI counterintelligence agent Clint Watts said President Donald Trump and some congressional Republicans almost acted as if they were carrying out a script from a Russian influence operation.

The cybersecurity expert told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” explained how such an operation would unfold, and he said the president and his GOP allies seemed to be pushing Kremlin propaganda and strategic goals.

“First thing you do is you seed accounts in social media, seed players, operatives, political parties, NGOs, groups like that into the U.S. audience space, you align with them based on interest, financial being a big one, information being another one, common issues, like ‘America first,'” Wattsa said. “That’s great for Russia, because if America puts America first and the world second, Russia can get on the world stage.”

Influence operations seek to nudge their target audience toward certain behaviors, and he said Republican lawmakers who visited Russia this month were a perfect example of this.

“Over time you just cultivate those relationships, and the end goal is a behavior change in your target audience,” Watts said. “We saw this happen last week. We saw senators go to Russia and literally repeat lines that Russia would want them to say — sanctions aren’t working, maybe you shouldn’t pursue these, or everybody does influence and meddling.

“Sen. (Richard) Shelby (R-AL), he essentially repeated a line you will hear come out of the Kremlin,” Watts said,

“That’s the behavior change they want,” Watts said. “The thing we don’t realize is that it is boiling the frog. It is very slow and the goal is to nudge the target audience, which is the Republican Party, to take on your agenda.”

He said the House Judiciary Committee hearing with FBI agent Peter Strzok also advanced Russian interests at the expense of American institutions.

“You saw Republicans in Congress attacking another U.S. institution to defend President Trump, who’s under investigation from a Russia collusion and obstruction case,” Watts said. “This is exactly how active measures (play out), which is have your adversary fight with itself so they cannot fight with you and withdraw on the world stage.”

“At every single point, with the exception of one — removal of sanctions — Russia has advanced its goals and foreign policy,” he added.

White House officials furious at timing of Russia indictments: ‘A big FU from Mueller’

White House officials are furious :lol

that special counsel Robert Mueller dropped new grand jury indictments against 12 Russian military officials (https://www.rawstory.com/2018/07/6-stunning-revelations-muellers-new-indictments-12-russian-officers/) ahead of President Donald Trump’s summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The summit (https://www.rawstory.com/2018/07/pillar-american-right-predicts-dire-catastrophic-consequences-trump-putin-summit/) is set for July 16 in Helsinki, and plans :lol plans? :lol

for their meeting do not appear to be slowing down despite the new revelations.

“It’s a big FU from Mueller,” a White House official said in an interview with Politico. (https://www.politico.com/story/2018/07/13/trump-mueller-indictments-putin-summit-russia-probe-720953)

He added that Mueller’s timing “wasn’t an accident.” duh! :lol

“It forces Trump to confront Putin.

If he fails to do so, he is admitting guilt.

Rosenstein said the timing of the indictments were:

“a function of the collection of the facts,

the evidence, and

the law and

a determination that it was sufficient to present the indictment at this time.”

In early 2016, Russian intelligence officers obtained a new pool of the virtual currency Bitcoin. They quickly put the digital money to work.

The Russian spies used some of the Bitcoins to pay for the registration of a website, dcleaks.com, where they would later post emails that had been stolen from Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

When the operatives needed a computer server to host the dcleaks site, they paid for that with Bitcoins as well.

The transactions were detailed in an indictment (https://int.nyt.com/data/documenthelper/80-netyksho-et-al-indictment/ba0521c1eef869deecbe/optimized/full.pdf) on Friday from the Justice Department, in which prosecutors accused 12 Russian operatives (https://www.nytimes.com/2018/07/13/us/politics/mueller-indictment-russian-intelligence-hacking.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=story-heading&module=a-lede-package-region&region=top-news&WT.nav=top-news) of interfering in the 2016 presidential campaign through a sophisticated hacking scheme.

Russian Agents Acted On Trump’s Demand To Hack Clinton — The Same Day

, the president himself was actively cheerleading for the Kremlin’s cyber warfare tactics in the runup to the election.

And according to a new Indictment from the Justice Department and special counsel Robert Mueller, it looks like the Russians were taking Trump’s directions.

this one particular line jumps off the page of the indictment (https://www.justice.gov/file/1080281/download):

For example, on or about July 27, 2016, the Conspirators attempted after hours to spearfish for the first time email accounts at a domain hosted by a third-party provider and used by Clinton’s personal office.

At or around the same time, they also targeted seventy-six email addresses at the domain for the Clinton Campaign.

This is significant because on the same exact date — July 27, 2016 — then-candidate Trump said at a press conference,

“Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing.

I think you will be rewarded mightily by our press. Let’s see if that happens.”
The “30,000 emails” remark refers to Hillary Clinton’s personal emails as Secretary of State.

And according to the new indictment,

the Russians first started trying to hack Clinton’s personal emails on the exact same day.

it could be that the most obvious reading of the indictment and Trump’s statements is correct:

Trump gave foreign national a direction to commit a crime against the United States, and they listened.

Did Pootin's people tell Trash's people that they had probed the Dem machines and knew they could penetrate them,

an invitation to Trash to tell the Russians to do it?

Trump’s presidency is illegitimateMeuller’s indictments of 12 Russian intelligence agents prove that the Kremlin stole the election for TrumpIt’s all right there in the indictment (https://int.nyt.com/data/documenthelper/80-netyksho-et-al-indictment/ba0521c1eef869deecbe/optimized/full.pdf) — day by day, hack by hack, theft by theft — how

agents of the Russian intelligence service, the GRU, set out in the spring of 2016 to steal the election for Donald Trump.

When you track the actions taken by Russian intelligence in the indictment with statements made by Trump and actions taken on his behalf by members of his campaign, the picture is as clear as an iPhone photo.

Agents of the Russian government coordinated with members of the Trump campaign and took cues from Trump himself in order to influence the election of 2016.

the intent of the Russians was clear. They took active measures over a period of at least nine months to aid the campaign of Donald Trump and to damage the campaign of Hillary Clinton.

They stole the election for Donald Trump, and he helped them do it.
“The Object of the Conspiracy”:

“The object of the conspiracy was to hack into the computers of US. persons and entities involved in the 2016 U.S. presidential election,

steal documents from those computers, and

stage releases of the stolen documents to interfere with the 2016 US. presidential election.”
The indictment is breathtaking in the specificity of the crimes it outlines, how those crimes were committed, and by whom.

the Conspirators targeted over 300 individuals affiliated with the Clinton Campaign, DCCC, and DNC,”

If the indictment handed down yesterday by the grand jury being run by Special Counsel Mueller doesn’t allege, albeit in a roundabout way, that Russia conspired with Trump to steal the election of 2016, I don’t know what it does.

Anybody who gets elected to office in this country with the help of the intelligence agents of a foreign power has been elected illegitimately.

It’s not a tough call.

Donald Trump is president because Vladimir Putin wanted him to be.

He acts like he owes Putin every single day.

Twelve agents of the Russian intelligence service the GRU didn’t do all that spearphishing and email disseminating all by themselves.

They did it on orders from Putin.

That’s why Trump owes Putin.

Read it for yourself.

It’s right there in the indictment.
