SUSAN RICE IS GOING DOWN
IF you haven't seen this bit.
I suspected there was an army of people out there that would start combing through Trump's old transactions. I was right about that.

“There are still a lot of mysteries to solve, and I intend to solve them,” Andersen wrote in his newsletter earlier this month, boasting that he had been in touch with a reporter who plans to draw from his work soon.
This may sound like the pointless industry of conspiracy theorists, but some legal experts, and history itself, suggest they could make a difference. Among the 15,000 pieces of mail and 6,000 telegrams the Watergate special prosecutor received during his first year on the job, according an official report, an average of three or four “substantial allegations” each month merited a deeper look.
“Sometimes they do pan out,” said Nick Akerman, a former assistant Watergate prosecutor who recalled how tipsters helped connect him to important Nixon White House sources. “Some are absolute crackpots, no matter how you cut it.”
White-collar defense attorney William Jeffress said he tried to ignore the unsolicited suggestions that clogged up his email inbox when he was representing I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby, a top aide to Vice President Dick Cheney, during the federal investigation into the leak of CIA agent Valerie Plame’s identity. But Jeffress said he found that amateur bloggers and researchers sometimes turned up important data points that reporters and Washington insiders had missed.
“You’d be amazed how much information the people who spend a lot of time can dig out,” he said.

Several of the Trump researchers interviewed for this story said they take pains to root their work in verifiable fact and avoid building audiences with over-the-top conspiracy mongering like the work of Louise Mensch, a former British parliamentarian turned anti-Trump blogger who has made unfounded claims that a sealed indictment has been granted against Trump and that former White House adviser Steve Bannon may face the death penalty for treason. Their main goal is to expose actionable information for the media or even for federal investigators.

Good luck to them. I certainly think the financial angle has more traction than treason.
I have no doubt there are some skeletons out there.
Personally though I think the more recent stuff since the financial crisis is going to be the biggest scandals are going to be found. Russian mafia and a lot of criminal gangs stepped into the liquidity void left by big banks.
The older stuff may yield something as well. Given Trumps willingness to do anything for a buck, the odds are 1:1 he has done something illegal, even if minor.

Lobbyist at Trump Campaign Meeting Has a Web of Russian Connections
Mr. Akhmetshin, who is under scrutiny by the special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, has much deeper ties to the Russian government and Kremlin-backed oligarchs than previously known.
He has an
association with a former deputy head of a Russian spy service, the F.S.B., and
a history of working for close allies of President Vladimir V. Putin.
Twice, he has worked on legal battles for Russian tycoons whose opponents suffered sophisticated hacking attacks, arousing allegations of computer espionage.
He helped federal prosecutors bring corruption charges against an American businessman in the former Soviet Union who turned out to be working for the C.I.A.
He also helped expose possible corruption in government contracting that complicated American efforts to keep troops at an air base in Kyrgyzstan — an American presence that the Russians fiercely opposed.
American counterintelligence agents took notice of his activities, but drew no conclusions about where his allegiances lay, according to a former law enforcement official who spoke on condition of anonymity, citing government secrecy rules.
(https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/21/us/rinat-akhmetshin-russia-trump-meeting.html?_r=0#story-continues-2)Mr. Akhmetshin’s meeting with Trump campaign officials is of keen interest to Mr. Mueller, who is investigating the Kremlin’s efforts to interfere in the 2016 election. Of all the visitors who attended the June 2016 session at the Trump Tower, he appears to have the most direct ties to Russian intelligence.
The session was arranged by a Russian businessman close to Mr. Putin whose emissary promised damaging information (https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/11/us/politics/trump-russia-email-clinton.html) about Hillary Clinton as “part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump.”

Interesting story here :tu
NYPost: Looks like Wasserman Schultz's jailed IT staffers were selling sensitive and classified stolen info to Russian intelligence
Uh-oh. Probe widening.
You're probably aware that, on Thursday, a federal Grand Jury indicted former Wasserman Schultz IT aide Imran Awan on four felony counts. Most agree that the charges - which include bank fraud, making false statements, and conspiracy - are just a placeholder. The investigation into a much larger set of crimes is ongoing and it's virtually impossible to find anyone who thinks these few meager charges will be the end of the story.
According to the New York Post, the probe is 'widening' and their sources indicate that investigators now suspect that Imran Awan and his allies were stealing government info, including classified material, and selling it to both Pakistani and - wait for it - Russian intel agencies.
Oh, those pesky "Russian Hackers."
Federal authorities are investigating whether sensitive data was stolen from congressional offices by several Pakistani-American tech staffers and sold to Pakistani or Russian intelligence, knowledgeable sources say.
What started out 16 months ago as a scandal involving the alleged theft of computer equipment from Congress has turned into a national-security investigation involving FBI surveillance of the suspects.
Investigators now suspect that sensitive US government data — possibly including classified information — could have been compromised and may have been sold to hostile foreign governments that could use it to blackmail members of Congress or even put their lives at risk.
“This is a massive, massive scandal,” a senior US official familiar with the widening probe told The Post.
This would explain how an inexperienced IT crew (whose members boasted such resume-enhancers as "McDonald's Fry Guy') could parlay their general lack of knowledge into a huge $4 million windfall over the last 10 years.
The Democrats who hired the five suspects apparently did a poor job vetting them. Awan’s brother Abid had a rap sheet with multiple offenses, including a conviction for DWI a month before he was hired, and filed for bankruptcy in 2012.
...Most had relatively little IT experience. Yet they hauled in a combined $4 million-plus over the past decade. One, a former McDonald’s worker, was suddenly making as much as a chief of staff.
“These lawmakers allowed an insider threat to come into the House,” the official charged. “Computer equipment was stolen, taxpayers were robbed of hundreds of thousands of dollars, and sensitive data was compromised and possibly sold overseas.”
It certainly seems clear that there's a lot more to this story than simple bank fraud and a few lies to federal investigators. The fact that Wasserman Schultz kept these people on her staff until they were arrested trying to flee the country - and had apparently planned to keep paying them even when they'd returned to Pakistan - speaks volumes. Given all the alarm bells, there's just no sane reason to keep the Awans around - unless something is very seriously wrong.
Wasserman Schultz has been trying to play the race card, claiming she refused to fire anyone because she believed they were the innocent victims of a Republican anti-Islam witch-hunt. ...But no one is buying it.
The big question is, what do investigators know, and when will the other shoe drop? ...Or will it not drop at all?
The sad fact is that we've all grown accustomed to watching obvious corruption go unpunished. Whether it was Eric Holder's multiple scandals, the IRS targeting scandal, the Benghazi YouTube lie, Hillary's secret server, or the shady Tarmac meeting, we just spent 8 years taking a master class in the way the federal government protects and covers for its own.
I'd love to be wrong, but I'm not sure why we would think this is going to be any different - especially when it has the potential to be the final nail in the "Russian hackers" canard.

On November 29, 2016, President-elect Donald Trump nominated Chao to serve as the Secretary of Transportation.[3] She was confirmed by the Senate on January 31, 2017, in a 93–6 vote.[4]

That's the sad part about the GOP though. The Democrats basically have no power but they're still somehow winning. Obamacare is still the law of the land. No significant GOP legislation has gone through. There's no "wall" going up. The racists showed their ass and now the Confederate statues are coming down. Trump is busy playing on Twitter, golfing, throwing his reality TV show staff under the bus one by one, having campaign rallies, whining about the media and sabotaging his own party. What do Democrats have to complain about really? They should welcome Trump's incompetence with open arms and be thankful they're not up against a Republican President that actually knows what he's doing :lol

Top Senators Just Gave Trump Bad News About The Russia Dossier
Newsweek is reporting (http://www.newsweek.com/trump-pee-tape-glenn-simpson-654737) this afternoon that Glenn Simpson, the man whose firm oversaw the compilation of what came to be known as the “Pee-Tape Dossier,” (https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2017/03/how-the-explosive-russian-dossier-was-compiled-christopher-steele) may soon testify in public.
Simpson’s consultancy, Fusion GPS, contracted former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele to investigate Trump’s many Russian and Eastern European associates and past business deals. Fusion expected him to return with run of the mill opposition research. What Steele delivered was anything but run of the mill.
Per Newsweek:
Steele’s dossier alleged that Trump colluded with Russian agents to undermine opponent Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election.
It also included lurid claims that the Russian government possessed compromising material on Trump,
including a video of him getting Russian prostitutes to urinate on a Moscow hotel room bed on which Barack and Michelle Obama once slept.
The dossier has cast a shadow over the entire Trump-Russia scandal.
U.S. intelligence agencies have known about the dossier since before President Trump took office, and
it’s been reported that the
FBI has been using the dossier as a road map (http://www.businessinsider.com/trump-russia-dossier-fbi-investigation-2017-3) for its own investigation into his campaign’s possible collusion with Russia
to influence the 2016 election.
Now there’s a push from all sides for Simpson’s testimony to be released to the public.
“Further details on what Simpson said have not been disclosed,” Newsweek is reporting, “but that may soon change.
Asked at a town hall in Iowa on Wednesday whether he would make Simpson’s testimony public, Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA), a Republican, said he would take a vote of the committee members but
he presumes it will be released.” :lol

A GOP senator wrote a bill to protect Robert Mueller. Trump called him to try to kill it.
The president wants to keep his option to fire Mueller open
shortly after Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) introduced a bill that would let Mueller appeal his firing in court, Trump called up Tillis, signaled he was “unhappy” with the bill and said he didn’t want it to pass.
Tillis is a first-term senator who hasn’t been particularly known as a moderate or really for taking any high-profile stances at all.
So it was a bit surprising when, earlier this month, he co-wrote a bill with Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) to protect Mueller from Trump, and went on television to tout it (http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/thom-tillis-bill-to-shield-mueller-aimed-at-trump).
Justice Department regulations already state that the special counsel can only be fired for “good cause,” but Tillis and Coons’s bill (https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/senate-bill/1741/text?q=%7B%22search%22%3A%5B%22tillis+coons%22%5D% 7D&r=1) — the Special Counsel Integrity Act — would make that regulation the law of the land.
It would also state that the special counsel could only be fired by a Senate-confirmed official.
Perhaps most importantly, the bill would also let a special counsel appeal his firing in court.
If judges find that the firing was improper, the special counsel would be reinstated.

Mueller’s Investigation Just Arrived At The Door Of The Trump Campaign
Wall Street Journal is reporting: (https://www.wsj.com/articles/special-counsel-examines-possible-role-flynn-played-in-seeking-clinton-emails-from-hackers-1503694304)
The effort to seek out hackers who were believed to have stolen Mrs. Clinton’s emails, first reported by The Wall Street Journal (https://www.wsj.com/articles/gop-activist-who-sought-clinton-emails-cited-trump-campaign-officials-1498872923), was
led by a longtime Republican activist, Peter W. Smith (https://www.wsj.com/articles/gop-operative-sought-clinton-emails-from-hackers-implied-a-connection-to-flynn-1498770851).
In correspondence and conversations with his colleagues,
Mr. Smith portrayed Mr. Flynn as an ally in those efforts and
implied that
other senior Trump campaign officials were coordinating with him,
which they have denied.
He also named Mr. Flynn’s consulting firm and his son in the correspondence and conversations.
Back during the campaign, President Trump held a press conference where he publicly asked Russia to hack Hillary Clinton’s servers (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNa2B5zHfbQ) to find her deleted emails.
“I will tell you this: Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 33,000 emails that are missing. I think you would will probably be rewarded mightily by our press,”

The Latest Explosive Developments in the Russia Probe Might Have Sealed Trump's Fate
The bipartisan consensus is that the president is in big, big trouble.
As one GOP aide told Politico, “It seems he is just always focused on Russia.”
One might ask whether meeting with Russian emissaries and leaders is a normal function of presidential campaigns. It’s not. Nobody in that business can think of another instance.
In fact, Republican strategist Steve Schmidt — who worked on George W. Bush and John McCain’s presidential bids — had this to say back on Aug. 4 to MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace, also a former GOP strategist who worked on the same campaigns:
We worked on two presidential campaigns at high levels and there weren’t any Russians around.
I don’t think there were Russians around the Obama campaign or the Kerry campaign either.
This campaign had Russians all over the place!
between Trump’s
increasingly manic insistence on discrediting the press,
resisting any sanctions or pushback for Russian meddling, and
demanding the Congress cease exercising its oversight duties
it’s hard to escape the suspicion that
he’s getting ever more nervous about something.
He must be going against his lawyers’ advice, since
he is clearly feeding suspicions of obstruction of justice, which is one of the charges the special counsel is investigating.
Common sense says that normal people who have nothing to hide don’t act this way.
Of course, nobody ever said Donald Trump was normal

How the Russia Investigation Could Turn on 50-Year-Old Court Case
A former Justice Department prosecutor explores how a 1966 Supreme Court ruling could form the basis for possible future prosecutions.
“Whoever commits an offense against the U.S. or aids, abets, counsels, commands, induces, or procures its commission, is punishable as a principal.” —18 U.S.C. 2
Under the United States federal criminal code,
anyone who violates the country’s federal statutes is subject to prosecution.
Since the emails involving Donald Trump Jr.’s contacts with a Russian government-connected lawyer have been publicized, legal and linguistic experts have been debating whether and who may have been guilty of criminal wrongdoing.
That ruling, U.S. v. Charles E. Lester and Edward Anthony Buccieri, sheds light on the current debate regarding Trump Jr.’s notorious meeting with Russian operatives. The ruling deals with the second section of the federal criminal code noted above—not some exotic or vaguely defined crime.
Collusion is defined as a “secret agreement between two or more persons for a fraudulent or deceitful purpose.”
Conspiracy is defined in legal texts as two or more people agreeing to commit a criminal act when there is an overt act in furtherance of that agreement, not necessarily completion of the crime envisioned
A recent Politico survey of law professors (http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2017/07/12/what-is-collusion-215366) offered a list of crimes that might be prosecuted using certain facts that have already been made public about Russia’s involvement in the 2016 election, including
violations of election and campaign-finance laws;
aiding foreign intelligence activities;
committing cybercrime as defined under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act;
misprision (https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/misprision) of a felony;
false statements to government officials;
as well as false filings,
wire fraud, and
perjury.
The appellate court ruled that under 18 USC 2 (a law that is still in force today), whoever “aids, abets, counsels, commands, induces, or procures its commission, is punishable as a principal.” If he “causes an act to be done by him or another,” that would be an offense against the United States. Ignorance of the law cannot be used as a defense in a courtroom.
Could this precedent apply to the acts of Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, Paul Manafort, and any others regarding their behavior during and after the meeting with the Russians?
If the Russians violated any of the laws Politico noted, might these others have aided and abetted them?
This question is sure to be investigated by Robert Mueller, the special counsel.
The body of law on aiding and abetting is venerable, and the court cited modern applications as well cases dating back centuries.

“To the extent Plaintiffs wish to air their general grievances with the DNC or its candidate selection process, their redress is through the ballot box, the DNC’s internal workings, or their right of free speech — not through the judiciary,” Judge William Zloch, a Reagan appointee, wrote in his dismissal of the class-action lawsuit. “To the extent Plaintiffs have asserted specific causes of action grounded in specific factual allegations, it is this Court’s emphatic duty to measure Plaintiffs’ pleadings against existing legal standards. Having done so ... the Court finds that the named Plaintiffs have not presented a case that is cognizable in federal court.”
Ah, but, as usual, the Post missed the mark.
The suit was filed in July 2016 by two Florida lawyers, Jared and Elizabeth Beck, who claimed a massive trove of hacked (or leaked) emails showed that the Democratic National Committee and Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz had secretly greased the skids for Hillary Clinton and actively worked to defeat her top challenger, Sen. Bernie Sanders.
But here's a fascinating section in the ruling, where the judge flat out says the DNC can — and did — rig its own nomination.
“In evaluating Plaintiffs’ claims at this stage, the Court assumes their allegations are true — that the DNC and Wasserman Schultz held a palpable bias in favor Clinton and sought to propel her ahead of her Democratic opponent,” he wrote.
“The Court thus assumes that the DNC and Wasserman Schultz preferred Hillary Clinton as the Democratic candidate for president over Bernie Sanders or any other Democratic candidate. It assumes that they stockpiled information useful to the Clinton campaign. It assumes that they devoted their resources to assist Clinton in securing the party’s nomination and opposing other Democratic candidates. And it assumes that they engaged in these surreptitious acts while publicly proclaiming they were completely neutral, fair, and impartial. This Order therefore concerns only technical matters of pleading and subject-matter jurisdiction," Zloch wrote.
But that didn't affect the merits of the case as to whether the two lawyers had standing to sue.
“The Court must now decide whether Plaintiffs have suffered a concrete injury particularized to them, or one certainly impending, that is traceable to the DNC and its former chair’s conduct — the keys to entering federal court. The Court holds that they have not.”
But our guess is that the plaintiffs got exactly what they wanted — a ruling by a court that the DNC, led by Wasserman Schultz, stacked the deck in favor of Hillary. While the Post touted it as a win, it was a very clear loss.
An embarrassing one.

Mixed feelings. Trump presidency is the best thing that has happened to the Democratic party in years.
Energizing for the base, and showing just how inept the GOP is, or wants in their leaders.
That said, the cost in terms of damage to the democracy and competence in government will be huge.

Court Admits DNC, Wasserman Schultz Rigged Primaries For Hillary
It's clear whoever wrote this didn't go to law school :lol
The court makes assumptions like that based on the state of the case, not as a factual finding. For instance, if a party files a motion todismiss , the court will look at the evidence most favorably to the non-moving party.
The court held that assumption because the question was whether the lawyers has proper standing. In making thedecision , the court doesn't concern the factual merits of the case and assumes them to be true so as to not confuse the true issue (merits of the case vs proper standing)

Took it on July 25-26, results come in November 17. Working as a law clerk in the meantime.
As further clarification, one of the elements of establishing standing is "injury in fact." So for the purpose of determining standing, thr court will always assume thr allegations are true so they can determine if the alleged actions are enough to grant standing.
So if I try to sue you for being a turd and my allegation is that you posted stupid memes, the court will hold the assumption that you actually did post stupid memes. But the court would probably determine that my allegations wouldn't rise to an "injury in fact" and I wouldn't have standing to sue
It would be really stupid if that happened, the court dismissed that lawsuit, and then I claimed victory by saying "the court assumed your memes are stupid!!!"

Trump trying to pardon his way out of Russia scandal would be ‘stupidest’ possible plan: legal experts
multiple legal experts tell Vox (https://www.vox.com/2017/8/29/16211784/donald-trump-pardon-constitution-michael-flynn-manafort) that such a strategy would be the “stupidest” course of action that he’s taken so far, as it would rip down key legal barriers that are protecting the president and his team during the investigation.
“If President Trump pardons subjects of Mueller’s investigation,
they will be unable to claim their Fifth Amendment rights if they are asked to testify under oath,”
explains Asha Rangappa, an associate dean at Yale Law School.
“In theory, this would then facilitate Mueller’s investigation, as these individuals would have to tell Mueller everything they know.”
“If the President pardons anyone involved in the Russian investigation, it may prove to be one of the stupidest things he has yet done,”
says Georgetown University law professor Julie O’Sullivan.
“If — and this is a big if — the president is shown to have pardoned them to avoid his own personal exposure in the Russia investigation, that in and of itself could constitute obstruction of justice.”
one expert tells Vox that Trump does have a way to pardon people involved in the investigation while still escaping legal consequences — but it involves him stepping down and relying on new President Mike Pence to pardon him.
“Trump pardons them as he is exiting the White House and Trump exits early, allowing Pence to become president, and Pence then pardons Trump,” explains Georgetown University law professor Susan Bloch. “Trump will then have successfully shielded himself and his colleagues from criminal liability.”

Repugs' political hack busy blocking, politicizing the CIA
Mike Pompeo 'aggressively challenging analysts' displaying 'fierce partisanship' to defend Trump (https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/8/28/1693915/-Mike-Pompeo-aggressively-challenging-analysts-displaying-fierce-partisanship-to-defend-Trump)
director Mike Pompeo is showing everyone how to stay on the good side of Trump. (https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/at-cia-a-watchful-eye-on-mike-pompeo-the-presidents-ardent-ally/2017/08/24/18c1d716-7ed0-11e7-9d08-b79f191668ed_story.html?utm_term=.5e62708a9bf0)
As CIA director, Mike Pompeo has taken a special interest in an agency unit that is closely tied to the investigation into possible collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign, requiring the Counterintelligence Mission Center to report directly to him.
Officials at the center have, in turn, kept a watchful eye on Pompeo, who has repeatedly played down Russia’s interference in the 2016 election and demonstrated a willingness to engage in political skirmishes for President Trump.
A willingness to overlook Russian espionage isn’t usually the kind of property that makes a good CIA director.
But it does seem to be exactly what Trump is looking for.
And now the CIA is stuck in a position where one of its greatest threats is … the CIA director.
“People have to watch him,” said a U.S. official who, like others, requested anonymity to speak frankly. “It’s almost as if he can’t resist the impulse to be political.”
But rather than defend the agency, Pompeo has determined to defend Trump even in the face of evidence.
Pompeo is also known for berating subordinates, aggressively challenging agency analysts and displaying the fierce partisanship that became his signature while serving as a GOP member of Congress.
The partisan nature of Pompeo’s approach has led to the agency giving more attention to leaks and attacking its own conclusions.
When asked about Russian election interference,
Pompeo often becomes testy and
recites talking points that seem designed to appease a president
who rejects the allegations as “fake news” conjured by Democrats to delegitimize his election win.
“It is true” that Russia interfered in the 2016 election, Pompeo said at Aspen,
“and the one before that, and the one before that . . . ”
https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/8/28/1693915/-Mike-Pompeo-aggressively-challenging-analysts-displaying-fierce-partisanship-to-defend-Trump?detail=emaildkre
