lol no they don't
Amazing at this point some of you are still thinking this virus is going to go away
YES they do.
You are telling me the vaccines do Zero in preventing live/infection capable virus from being transmitted from vaccinated people?
Thats dead wrong. You are just flat out wrong.
And this has absolutely nothing to do with the virus going away fred.
It has to do with creating very SMALL POPULATIONS of virus transmission so that mutations and variants are LESS likely to arise. Keep coming Dr. SNAKE.

Edit my bad:
I now realize the definition of sterilizing immunity is not causing infection in a vaccinated person.
I was referring to the fact that immunized people are much less likely to release reproductively capable viral particles.
And this is why it is so important to get vaccinated.
Ah. I now I find some places are defining this term differently. But I think it is officially not causing infection in a vaccinated person. Which does make complete sense because vaccinated individuals CAN and do get infected, they just are much less likely to produce capable virus that causes bad symptoms because their immune system was already primed to fight it. And very very infrequently pass reproductively capable virus to other, which is the reason for the effort to vaccinate large number of people. (all based on info to this date)

IIRC, kids brought it home from school, starting the chain.

Yeah I saw that. And I dont see how they cannot rule out other intervening cases. Contact tracing does not really help say who it definitely came from, as much as it gets information on who it did not likely come from.
But I do not see significant data here at all. Breakthroughs are still rare and have come mostly in cases involving a likely heavy dose from a "loaded" infected individual on a vaccinated individual.
Was Israel using one particular vaccine?
And the definition of sterilizing immunity is a really bad one from an actual biological mechanism point of view. There is no clear cut off point.
Sterilizing immunity is a unique immune status, which prevents effective virus infection into the host. It is different from the immunity that allows infection but with subsequent successful eradication of the virus.
The bolded is not explained with biological definition at all. Not surprising, either is the word alive.

And also there is no doubt in my mind with as many people that were vaccinated, some people did not get active vaccine. There were definitely some ineffective stock of vaccine.

They're mostly using the Pfizer vaccine (Pfizer is conducting the national study, along with the Health Ministry), but others are in the mix and being monitored. Because of the national scale of the study, the intensiveness of contact tracing, and the degree/relative uniformity of vaccination, the data from Israel is (reportedly) very robust.

Yes I just saw that.
Thanks.
I would be dubious of the contact tracing like I said. Its easier to cross someone off a list that say they were a contributor.
But this is definitely something to keep tabs on. And it is unique. So unique that I would look at the Pfizer lot. The degree of relative uniformity could be uniformly bad if it was uniformly bad lots. But this is highly unlikely. Smaller number of people involved. But still worrisome.

“It’s actually quite dramatic how the growth rate will change,” says Dr. Wilson. Delta is spreading 50% faster than Alpha, which was 50% more contagious than the original strain of SARS-CoV-2, he says. “In a completely unmitigated environment—where no one is vaccinated or wearing masks—it’s estimated that the average person infected with the original coronavirus strain will infect 2.5 other people,” Dr. Wilson says. “In the same environment, Delta would spread from one person to maybe 3.5 or 4 other people.”https://www.yalemedicine.org/news/5-things-to-know-delta-variant-covid

organ damage and permanent impairment seem to be thematic.
Many COVID-19 survivors are likely to be at greater risk of developing mental illness, psychiatrists said on Monday, after a large study found 20% of those infected with the coronavirus are diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder within 90 days.
Anxiety, depression and insomnia were most common among recovered COVID-19 patients in the study who developed mental health problems. The researchers from Britain's Oxford University also found significantly higher risks of dementia, a brain impairment condition.

A program to aid the economy brings Mexican workers into San Diego for vaccinations.
TIJUANA — On a recent morning, hundreds of Mexican workers from the factories here, known as maquiladoras, were waved across the border into San Diego, without visas or passports, and rolled up their sleeves to be vaccinated against Covid-19. An hour later, they were back on production lines in Tijuana.
The goal was to protect not just the workers, but also the intertwined U.S. and Mexican economies.
“If the maquiladoras can’t operate, then we don’t get our Coca-Cola,” said Lydia Ikeda, the senior director of Covid operations at the University California San Diego Health, which is helping run the program. “We cannot be isolated.”
The cross-border vaccination effort is meant to remedy the kind of disparity in access to the vaccine that economists have warned could keep a robust global economic rebound out of reach.
The Biden administration has pledged to send 80 million doses to other nations, including four million for Mexico.
Along the U.S.-Mexico border, however, a pandemic border closure and a dearth of vaccines in Mexico have threatened to keep local economic recovery at bay. And officials from both nations have found a way to share surplus vaccines from Texas and California with Mexicans on the other side.
“We are divided by a virtual line,” Dr. Ikeda said, gesturing to the border. “To get them vaccinated is the only way for us to get out of the pandemic.”
The idea of vaccinating workers just across the border occurred to Carlos González Gutiérrez, Mexico’s consul general in San Diego, when he watched as college students and undocumented workers plucking berries in California’s fields received the vaccines with relative ease while Mexico struggled to provide them for its older people.
Mr. González reached out to San Diego County officials, who had seen the closure of the border in March 2020 damage the region’s once-thriving economy, with a proposal: Why not give excess vaccines nearing expiration to the thousands of Mexicans factory workers just across the border?
Soon, Mexican and U.S. officials agreed that San Diego’s excess vaccines, all Johnson & Johnson, would be sold to American companies with factories in Mexico. By May, San Diego County had received permission from the federal government — which owns the vaccines — to sell the shots, and worked with the Department of Homeland Security to allow Mexicans without visas to cross the border to receive them.

New York Gov. Cuomo 'not that confident' in FDA's vaccine approval process
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he's not confident in the Food and Drug Administration's approval process for a COVID-19 vaccine, and that the American public shouldn't be either.
"I'm not that confident, but my opinion doesn't matter. I don't believe the American people are that confident," Cuomo told ABC News chief anchor George Stephanopoulos in an interview Monday on "Good Morning America."
"I think it's going to be a very skeptical American public about taking the vaccine, and they should be," he added.
Cuomo said he plans to assemble a group of doctors and medical experts to review any COVID-19 vaccine approved by the FDA before affirming its efficacy and safety for New York state residents.
"But I believe all across the country you're going to need someone other than this FDA and this CDC saying it's safe," he said, before adding that the two federal agencies don't "have any credibility."

Why do you insist on acting like he never existed?
And 57% of New Yorkers are fully vaccinated.
Did Cuomo scare off all the people in Arkansas and Alabama who would've gotten the vaccine had they not followed his lead as those people must do?

"Democratic politicians raising concerns about how quickly coronavirus vaccines could be rolled out to the public appear to be bolstering anti-vax groups. By highlighting issues around the vaccine development process, politicians on the left may be inadvertently increasing skepticism among the wider public."
"around the middle of August—when the Trump administration began suggesting a vaccine may be ready before the November 3 election—Democratic leaders started voicing skepticism about the development process for the first time. And concerns about the speed at which vaccines are being developed, and the potential for their release via Emergency Use Authorization (EUA,) have now been raised by many political leaders."
At the start of September, Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris said she would not trust President Donald Trump's word alone that any vaccine developed is safe and efficient.
A week later, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden made similar remarks during a speech in Delaware, saying, "I trust vaccines, I trust scientists, but I don't trust Donald Trump."
Meanwhile, Nancy Pelosi, Democratic speaker of the United States House of Representatives, has said any vaccine must meet safety standards before being released if it is to be accepted by the public.
"Unless there is confidence that the vaccine has gone through the clinical trials, and then is approved by the independent scientific advisory committee, as established to do just this, there will be doubts that people will have."
According to a survey from the Pew Research Center carried out between September 8 and 13, half of U.S. adults now say they probably or definitely would not get a vaccine to prevent COVID-19, if it were available today.
While vaccine skepticism was still higher among Republicans—as it has been historically—there was a marked increase among Democrats. In May, 50 percent said they would "definitely" get the vaccine. By September, this had fallen to 24 percent.

Vaccinated people's immune system kills the virus very quickly, preventing a lot of virus load, in addition to being sicker for a shorter period of time.

As the Associated Press notes, Walensky cited data from the last few days, still unpublished, taken from 100 samples from vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals with COVID infections. They found that the amount of virus in the noses and throats of vaccinated infected people was nearly "indistinguishable" from what was found in unvaccinated people, confirming what some experts have suspected. The increased viral load associated with the Delta variant appears to make vaccinated people equal spreaders of the virus. Walensky said that the data was "concerning enough that we feel like we have to act."

big, if repeatable
Methods
In a live 124 bed hospital (>100,000 patient days over 30 months) we documented the impact of the step-wise addition of air disinfection technology and COVID-19 mitigation measures to standard multi-modal infection control on particle counts, viral and bacterial bioburden, and health care-associated infection rates.
Findings and Conclusion
The addition of air-disinfection technology and COVID-19 mitigation measures reduced airborne ultrafine particles, altered hospital bioburden, and reduced health care-associated infections from 11.9 to 6.6 (per 1,000 patient days) and from 6.6 to 1.0 (per 1,000 patient days) respectively (P< 0.0001, R2= 0.86). No single technology, tool, or procedure will eliminate health care-associated infections but the addition of a ubiquitous facility-wide engineering solution at limited expense and with no alteration in patient, visitor, or staff traffic or work flow patterns reduced infections by 45%. A similar impact was documented with the addition of comprehensive, restrictive, and labour and material intensive COVID-19 mitigation measures. We believe this is the first direct comparison between traditional infection control, an engineering solution, and COVID-19 mitigation measures.

New guidance from the CDC:
“The CDC recommended that all teachers, staff, students, and visitors at K-12 schools mask up as well.”
The data clearly indicates that children are not at any real danger from COVID. Current data from the CDC shows a 0.000001 % chance of a child in the U.S. succumbing to COVID. That is literally a 1 in one million chance.
Many more kids die EVERY DAY from pneumonia (2,216 daily) as have died in total from COVID (391 total).
Parents are fed up with needlessly masking their kids. This is NOT going to go over well!

I don't disagree, because even making the claim of complete eradication is virtually impossible to support (ie: how can you possible know?)
That said, there's a huge amount of levels between complete eradication and the current COVID situation, agree?
If we can manage to get it to polio/TB levels, or even Flu-like mortality levels, then this is pretty much no longer a concern.

Impossible to prove. But your whole argument rests in that this is a 8 billion population world that travels and thus spreads disease. Ebola transmits by simple contact, for example. We're not talking HIV here.
Yet, in most countries, Ebola has been under control for a long ass time, with minor flares that get contained right away, and the population in most countries completely oblivious to it.
So things can get better. It's not quick, and it's not overnight, it takes time, but it's not impossible. Look at the flu for the same thing. Mortality has come down to controlled levels.

Great so we will have a Delta killer vaccine by end of 2022 :lmao
The original flu pandemic was in 1918, the original vaccine was developed in 1940, and only used in civilians by 1945. By 1947 it became obvious the virus has been mutating and the vaccine wasn't as effective.
In 1957 the first mutation showed up, which triggered another pandemic that killed 1.1 million people globally. Took almost 3 years to develop new effective vaccines, based on the first ones.
Then in 1968, a new mutation showed up and triggered yet another pandemic with another 1 million people dead globally.
Since then, there has been relatively minor flare ups like H1N1 or avian flu.
So:
- We're in a much, much better place to handle this than in the past.
- We need to learn from the past. If we can avoid it, don't let the virus fester and mutate.
- Getting this under control doesn't happen overnight.

Studies from India with vaccines not authorized for use in the United States have noted relatively high viral loads and larger cluster sizes associated with infections with Delta, regardless of vaccination status.(96) These early data suggest that breakthrough Delta infections are transmissible. Most cold viruses have mutated so as to give minor symptoms that just help in spreading it.
This is an example of a good mutation or variant.

The goal isn't to fully stop mutations (though it would be ideal), nobody here argued for that.
What we can do and need to strive for is reduce the surface where mutations can happen in order to slow the process down, so we're not one pandemic after the next and we have more time to come up with more effective vaccines and treatments against the virus.

& if old man Trump was still in there you'd one be of the 50%, Adam.

You had SARS or Avian Flu?
SARS1 was an unsuccessful mutation, went extinct.
As I used to tell tholdren, it's not the flu it's a common cold virus. Strange that you and tholdren are making the same stupid comparison.

Dude I'm pro vaccine. I don't even mind vaccine mandates. 100% vaccination won't make this virus go away or stop mutating though. And vaccines (not just this one) don't prevent infection no matter how many times pgardn claims they do.

I'm sure I've been exposed numerous times.
Free boosters
Yeah I hope that I have, I'm certainly at high risk for it.
Sad to think that these terrified vaccinated chumpettes are sitting in the parking lot eating whataburger hoping they never get exposed to the virus when they should be out living life.

You said respiratory human coronavirus. SARS was that. Maybe if you didn't make stupid claims, people wouldn't call you out on it.

Case in point. Obviously you know that the risk of catching COVID goes beyond what it does to the individual, but it's more lib-triggering to ignore that part and play dumb.

I went to a full concert last week and have tickets for a dozen more in the next few months. I would like to actually go to those, but if these anti-vax and herd immunity cultists start filling up hospital rooms again, we're going to have a repeat of 2020. Wouldn't be my call, but it is what it is.

Hopefully mutates to the point of becoming another human coronavirus cold.
I beieve thats the only hope IMO.
But not sure why these mutations are deadlier? This is a very different virus

SARS wasn't an endemic human coronavirus. It was a civet cat virus (allegedly) that infected a small number of people before disappearing from the planet.
Just like MERS isn't an endemic human virus, it's a camel virus that occasionally infects humans. Needs to infect some more camel fuckers and mutate more before it can be the 6th HCoV.

Is delta actually any deadlier per person infected?

Well if you are out there living life how do you know you haven't been infected already. Have you had an antibody test to rule it out?

I haven't seen that,
only that it's more infectious due to a much higher viral load in lungs and windpipe.

Unless the argument is that wearing a mask indoors in public areas is somehow "not living life", which would be an incredibly retarded argument in and of itself, and I do think you're smarter than that, thus why I ruled it out.

You're a vaccinated person wearing a mask to keep you from spreading the virus
What do you think that means?
