Thats why you stick with larger studies by scientists.
The early studies were not there yet so why not use logical prevention measures using the way most transmissible viruses work. It’s not like masks were some bizarre idea, spacing, and washing/ disinfecting.

His protocol is literally called I-MASK+ protocol.

Everyone will perform their own little witchcraft dance early on when all we knew was it was viral. And that’s cool. Just don’t kill others by touting a cure that can be harmful. OD on vitamins and herbals is always a go to it seems. Better than disinfectant inhalation or injection.

Snake went nicotine

Nicotine (copenhagen longcut) + vitamins

Also had chloroquine phosphate by prescription in the medicine cabinet. Never took it mainly because I wasn't sure if I had covid. There was no testing available and the cdc was still claiming the risk to the public is low :lol

In retrospect I should have gotten a script for HCQ instead but the in vitro study for HCQ hadn't even been done at that time.

Its great for the vitamin nuts. People with normal metabolic functions do just fine with a varied American diet. This megadosing vitamins does make some people rich though. It’s helpful that it usually just runs through you without hurting too much. (Kidneys maybe a problem long term for some of the water solubles.)

Do what you must, Fauci did. I try to stay very hydrated with the common cold, might do some good.

I know many physicians are basically following the protocol for outpatient treatment, outside of their recent recommendation on ivermectin. It's all perfectly safe and reasonable stuff that may lower risk of serious illness. That's where pgardn and others get it wrong when they start using the word cure. In medicine "cure" doesn't really exist for viral illnesses. Most other illness either.

It will be sad if we eventually learn that Ivermectin could've prevented needless hospitalizations and deaths. I think there are even studies showing it helps the "long haulers".

What did the researchers do and find?

Using recently released national data on COVID-19 deaths by racial/ethnic group and age, along with US Census population data, we explored variation in mortality risk by calculating age-specific mortality measures in the above groups as well as in the non-Hispanic Asian or Pacific Islander population, the 5 census-defined groups for which data are available.

We found that for all groups, as compared to the non-Hispanic White population, there were excess COVID-19 deaths across all ages. Although for all racial/ethnic groups, most deaths occurred at older ages, there was also striking loss of life at younger ages, before age 65, among people of color.

More years of life were lost before 65 years among the non-Hispanic Black and Hispanic populations, despite the smaller size of these groups, than among the non-Hispanic White population. Scrutinizing age-specific mortality rates, we found that for young adults into midlife, comparatively, the non-Hispanic Black, Hispanic, and non-Hispanic American Indian or Alaska Native populations had a much higher risk of death from COVID-19 than the non-Hispanic White population.

What do these findings mean?

These data support the conclusion that US populations of color die of COVID-19 at younger ages as well as at higher rates than the non-Hispanic White population.
Enhancing protection from infection, including assurance of workplace protections, may be relevant to prevention of COVID-19 in working-age adults.

Oh good lord... lets again split the atoms on the thinnest hair.
word games...

And for Darrin. Lots of doctors are going with the Vit D thing for possible prevention or for mitigating symptoms. The thing is most people have no idea what their Vit D levels are naturally. Megadosing may barely move the needle. Its certainly not going to kill you in the amounts recommended. And there are people with low Vit D levels. I feel its something like me trying to stay overly hydrated and measure myself by how often I urinate when I do get the rare cold. When it could be that I just need to make sure I am not dehydrated as I do exercise quite a bit.

Doctors can be as weird with their little pet vitamins as anyone else. They start seeing trends in their patients, want to believe it, and then read that into their patients own little stories. Its like baby aspirin was a big thing as a blood thinner and then GB does a massive study that says it also increases your chances for strokes. Some docs still go with it for older men like my father. Some say not everyday but take a full aspirin when the big one hits. Multivitamins also took a hit in some big studies. Doctors are swayed just like other folks who dont have time to wait for bigger studies, I get that. And even then, some drugs do work on some patients and have radically different results for others. This is just not easy stuff. I think its very easy to get carried away with a bunch of different TREATMENTS (not cures, for the sake of the venomous creature).

I just want the vaccine asap. I seem to have hardly any side effects with the flu vaccine (or any others I can remember) so Im willing to give it a go. Immediately.

for the survivors

1. Hormonal Hardships

A number of long haulers are experiencing sexual health symptoms such as testicular pain, urinary problems and menstrual changes, lending credence to the theory that low hormone levels are contributing to the virus’ staying power — and that high estrogen may play a protective role (http://lnk.ozy.com/click/gb00-2c83w7-vb79oj-e6zybkt0/), which could explain why men are three times more likely to die (http://lnk.ozy.com/click/gb00-2c83w7-vb79ok-e6zybkt1/) from COVID-19 than women.

2. Pulmonary Problems

The virus directly inflames lung tissues, making air sacs less elastic and more difficult to expand, which makes breathing a challenge. Lung scarring has been seen in past coronavirus pandemics, particularly in patients infected with SARS, and some research suggests that as many as half (http://lnk.ozy.com/click/gb00-2c83w7-vb79ol-e6zybkt2/) of asymptomatic COVID-19 patients could sustain lung damage.

3. Coronary Catastrophes

Even without evidence of respiratory distress, heart inflammation can occur — with a recent study showing that a third (http://lnk.ozy.com/click/gb00-2c83w7-vb79om-e6zybkt3/) of college athletes with mild COVID-19 cases exhibited pericarditis, or swelling of the tissue surrounding the heart, and many long haulers see their heart rates spike even with simple movements like standing up or doing household chores.

4. Breaking the Brain Barrier

A layer of specialized cells protects the brain from blood, a barrier that also serves to keep out dangerous blood-borne infections. But COVID-19 appears able to cut past those defenses to directly damage brain cells, leading to a host of neurological issues — from headaches to anxiety, fatigue and “brain fog” — that may be difficult for doctors to diagnose for decades to come.

5. Children Too

Despite the fact that they suffer less intense symptoms and lower death rates, kids can and do transmit the virus. And although experts must weigh the steep costs of keeping them out of school, it’s important to note that children are at risk and do experience symptoms, from the more mild, like nosebleeds, to those seen in the adult population. The lack of public response or consideration of children has led frustrated parents to form online support groups, including this one (http://lnk.ozy.com/click/gb00-2c83w7-vb79on-e6zybkt4/).

US President Donald Trump’s political appointees tried to block or change more than a dozen government reports that detailed scientific findings about the spread of the coronavirus, a House panel investigating the alleged interference said on Monday.

Representative James Clyburn, a Democrat from the US state of South Carolina, said his coronavirus committee investigators have found evidence of a “political pressure campaign” to “bully” professionals at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in what may have been an attempt to “cripple the nation’s coronavirus response in a misguided effort to achieve herd immunity”.

The study

We investigated the epidemiological relationship among infected cases on a recent cluster infection of COVID-19 in an apartment building in Seoul, South Korea.

All infected cases were found along two vertical lines of the building, and each line was connected through a single air duct in the bathroom for natural ventilation. Our investigation found no other possible contact between the cases than the airborne infection through a single air duct in the bathroom. The virus from the first infected case can be spread to upstairs and downstairs through the air duct by the (reverse) stack effect, explaining the air movement in a vertical shaft.

Conclusions

This study suggests aerosol transmission, especially indoors with insufficient ventilation, which is underappreciated.

This is, so far, incredibly good. Graham(first part of the article), a protein expert and vaccine genius, should have been given the capability of working with so many others that could have helped him and guys like him. Our government could have organized these scientists so much earlier and put them into proper working groups. Trump completely failed on the Science end of this, his administration had no clue how to deal with a REAL problem involving science. Im only partially through the first part and its already terribly obvious.

Jared fkn Kushner and Mike Pence had no clue who to get involved, NONE. They had no ability to organize a community ready to work together. This is not in the article but its incredibly obvious from the statements from various scientists. All of these scientists could have use experts they did not even know of just by organizing properly.

Anyways, incredibly good find. They also explain the absolute importance of the 3-D shape of proteins and the different techniques to tease this out in an understandable manner. Also, give Snake some credit for getting a number of good articles together early on that were on target. The first part of this article basically reiterates some of what he had put up.

Great find so far... thanks. Im only about a fourth or fifth of the way in.

Chinese Government Sentences Journalist To Four Years In Jail For Reporting On The Spread Of The Coronavirus

China went back to doing what it does best: locking up its own citizens.

This was done with more enthusiasm than usual (https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20200411/13550244283/brave-whistleblowers-are-being-punished-saving-lives-during-pandemic.shtml),

since the state media's attempt to control the coronavirus narrative failed spectacularly (https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/03/china-trolling-world-and-avoiding-blame/608332/),

contradicted by local reports that managed to escape the Chinese government's blockade.

The government is still rounding up journalists and locking them up for reporting on the local spread of the virus.

Zhang Zhan, former lawyer and current journalist, has been incarcerated since May of this year.

She's accused of "picking quarrels and stirring up trouble."

The schoolground wording belies the severity of these charges, which are a convenient catch-all for journalists, dissidents, and critics of the state.

Little had been heard about Zhang's arrest (and the others that accompanied) since earlier this year.

The government finally released information on the charges in mid-November (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/nov/16/citizen-journalist-facing-jail-in-china-for-wuhan-covid-reporting-zhang-zhan).

Zhang's charges -- which include accusations of spreading "false information" via the internet -- come with a recommended sentence of 4-6 years.

It does indeed pump the air out but Im not sure how well it actually works or for how long it works.Vacuum pumps work ok for a day or two. A wine blanket -- heavier than air medical-grade inert gas -- works much better/longer, but it's important to keep the bottle upright in the fridge, even if it's red wine. Heat is a killer.

Coravins work best of all, but they are expensive. They are also not risk-free, because you're injecting gas into a sealed bottle. If you get a Coravin you should use the included neoprene sleeve for the bottle.

I'd be happy to recommend wine anytime, but my general advice is simple. Wherever you like to shop for wine, consult the wine nerds. Tell them what you like and how much you're comfortable spending. They'll usually do you right. Do take advantage of in-store tastings -- it's a good way to get variety and find out what you like.

If there's no wine nerd there, don't fret too much over your choice, with modern oenology, sanitation and production controls, most commercially produced wine is pretty good. Wine drinkers have never had it so good as the 21st century in terms of the general soundness/consistency of the product.

Another thing: it's always a good idea to take at least two bottles of wine home with you from the wine shop. If the first one disappoints, put the cork back in and open the next bottle. By the time you polish it off, you'll probably be ready for the first one. :eyebrows

'Toxic Individualism':

Pandemic Politics Driving Health Care Workers From Small Towns

The virus infecting thousands of Americans a day is also attacking the country's social fabric.

The coronavirus has exposed a weakness in many rural communities,

where divisive pandemic politics are alienating some of their most critical residents — health care workers.

A wave of departing medical professionals would leave gaping holes

in the rural health care system, and small-town economies,

triggering a death spiral in some of these areas that may be hard to stop.

More than a quarter of all the public health administrators in Kansas quit, retired or got fired this year

"It's been a terrible, an absolute terrible, no good year for rural health,"

Rural hospitals were in deep trouble before the pandemic.

Morgan says 132 of them have closed since 2010. COVID-19 made matters worse.

The surge of desperately sick and highly contagious patients stopped hospitals from doing the lucrative elective outpatient procedures that keep them in business.

Their small staffs have been run ragged.

And the pandemic has filled the air with vitriol against medical expertise.

No I say you're showing signs of mental illness because you'll do that literally for 3 months straight 12 hours a day with two liners of smileys and LOLs and claims of victory and response to the same troll.

And you've been doing it for years. There is a little difference. I can do a direct compare and contrast if you'd like.

here's another thread about doing one dose vaccination instead of the recommended two, this one from a Yale immunologist

tl;dr the 55% more contagious B.1.1.7 variant *might* make it advisable to get as many people vaccinated right now, and administer second doses whenever they become available.

given the stage in the pandemic we are at, a more transmissible variant is in some ways much more dangerous than a more severe variant. That’s because higher transmissibility subjects us to a more contagious virus spreading with exponential growth, whereas the risk from increased severity would have increased in a linear manner, affecting only those infected.https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2020/12/virus-mutation-catastrophe/617531/

Winehole23
01-02-2021, 05:33 AM
To understand the difference between exponential and linear risks, consider an example (https://twitter.com/AdamJKucharski/status/1343567425107881986) put forth by Adam Kucharski, a professor at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine who focuses on mathematical analyses of infectious-disease outbreaks. Kucharski compares a 50 percent increase in virus lethality to a 50 percent increase in virus transmissibility. Take a virus reproduction rate of about 1.1 and an infection fatality risk of 0.8 percent and imagine 10,000 active infections—a plausible scenario for many European cities, as Kucharski notes. As things stand, with those numbers, we’d expect 129 deaths in a month. If the fatality rate increased by 50 percent, that would lead to 193 deaths. In contrast, a 50 percent increase in transmissibility would lead to a whopping 978 deaths in just one month—assuming, in both scenarios, a six-day infection-generation time.

Winehole23
01-02-2021, 05:35 AM
So how much more transmissible? We aren’t completely sure yet, but the initial estimates from the data suggest that this variant could be about 50 to 70 percent (https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/23/health/coronavirus-uk-variant.html) more transmissible than regular COVID-19.

Winehole23
01-02-2021, 05:38 AM
Sidebar: in line with the Washington U/St. Louis study posted upstream, China probably lowballed initial cases by a factor of 10.

Supposing the PRC has misstated its overall COVID cases by a factor of 100, that would still be about 100 times fewer cases per capita than the USA.

https://thehill.com/changing-america/well-being/longevity/532125-study-from-chinas-cdc-suggests-wuhan-may-have-had-10

(Not suggesting anyone should move to China, just pointing out how far from adequate the US response to COVID has been and how far we have to go to match the competence of other developed countries.)

The new research however does not contradict previous studies (https://interestingengineering.com/new-more-contagious-coronavirus-variant-found-not-to-cause-more-severe-illness) that found that

the new strain (https://interestingengineering.com/second-more-transmissible-covid-19-variant-detected-in-uk) did not have a more elevated death rate and that

the current vaccines will be effective (https://interestingengineering.com/astrazeneca-says-its-vaccine-likely-works-against-new-variant) against it.

What stronger medicine would you prescribe for the USA?If I was in charge there would be mandatory paid sick leave, period.

There would be more money and infrastructure for vaccination, quarantine, rapid testing and contact tracing.

The Defense Production Act would be used as appropriate to hasten the arrival of PPE and vaccines.

That's off the top of my head, what you you do, Snake Boy?

Spain nationalized their health care system last Spring. Perhaps that sort of conversation will become germane about nine months from now when half the USA, facing its second COVID/FLU season, realizes it still doesn't have a vaccine and has no idea when it will.

Seems to me your prescription would do little to slow the spread and is geared more towards using covid to implement policies you wanted before covid.

I would recommend that President Trump immediately declare a complete national shutdown. All non essential workers would be ordered to stay at home, allowing for one person per household to venture outside once per day for food or medicine. To enforce such measures President Trump should immediately activate all national guardsmen and federalize all law enforcement. Use of any force necessary to ensure compliance should be authorized. All travel to the USA would be banned however those wishing to leave should be allowed to leave.

One in four doctors attacked, harassed on social media

Amid COVID-19, it is vital doctors feel safe advocating for masks, vaccine adherence

many physicians also report being sexually harassed and personally attacked on these platforms

on the basis of their religion, race or medical recommendations.

the findings highlight the intensity of online harassment before the pandemic, which has only intensified since the spring,

likely an underestimate of the true extent of attacks and harassment post-pandemic

since so many doctors started to advocate for public health measures during the pandemic and

have been met with an increasingly polarized populace emboldened by leadership that devalues science and fact,

Women were disproportionately affected by personal attacks and sexual harassment

A new coronavirus strain is 70% more transmissible —

and it's already widespread in the US

The mutated strain that's ravaging England is now appearing all over the United States

Researchers estimate that the variant has an increased transmission rate of 50 to 70 percent compared to other variants in the UK.

What that means is that this strain is infecting more people.

"There are mathematical models that have been put forth that suggest that this can be transmitted more rapidly than the kind of current strain that we have,"

the mathematical model Rutherford is referring to is the basic reproductive number, known as "R".

"And that's the number of secondary cases you can expect, on average, for every primary case," Rutherford said.

"So, if there are 10 primary cases and 14 secondary cases, the effective reproductive number is 1.4."

B117's transmission rate is between 1.5 and 1.7.

Part of the so-called success of this variant could be the mutations that have happened within the variant;

they appear to affect the spike protein (https://www.salon.com/2020/06/30/a-new-coronavirus-mutation-affects-the-spike-protein-that-invades-human-cells/) that attaches to human cells,

essentially improving its ability to bind to receptors on the cells.

I dont blame any one person. Its a virus. This has turned into being a.victim if you get the virus. Someone "gave it to me"
...
If you're scared stay home. If you get it, it's your own fault. This virus is dangerous to the old and frail just like any other respiratory virus. Its not the spanish flu, it's not even polio. If you're scared, be scared, but let others live their life.

Only the lowest iq people feel that you should ruin another person's life to make you feel safe.
