Announcements like this don't happen unless the situation is pretty bad. Banner is proactively covering its ass.

"We warned you"

Arizona's largest hospital network warned Tuesday that it might have to cut back on care in mid-January, as patient counts hit their highest level of the almost 2-year-old pandemic.

"If our continued forecast holds true, we will be in a position where we will be unable to meet the care needs of all of Arizonans," Dr. Marjorie Bessel, Phoenix-based Banner (https://www.bannerhealth.com/)'s chief clinical officer, said at a virtual news conference with reporters.

"We do not want to get there. You do not want us to get there."

In that scenario, Banner would shift to "crisis standards of care," Bessel said. The chain's 18 hospitals could decide who gets the care and who gets a bed.

The hospitals are currently operating under a "contingency level of care."

"We're not at our normal operations," Bessel said. "It means things like we might be doing less documentation than we previously do. It means things like we may be having staff working different types of units that they don't normally work in."

interesting theory...I have been moderately sick for 8 days now feeling like shit...started with on/off fever first few days, body aches, scratchy throat, sinus drainage, sneezing, "tired" etc. Sounds just like Omicron, right? Except I tested negative. Almost all of those symptoms are "immune response" symptoms. Seems like I'm not the only one this is happening to. One theory is that the mRNA vaccines are making our bodies hyper sensitive to any viral exposure and our immune system is automatically going to Defcon 1 with exposure even to common colds.

I am quoting from an article in National Review.

*In the last week or so, I heard about a ton of friends and acquaintances who felt really sick really quickly, were absolutely convinced they had Covid-19, scrambled to find a test, and then to their surprise tested negative. One possibility is that because of the vaccinations, some people’s bodies are now really ready to react to any pathogen, and so they’re responding to the common cold or the usual bugs with more intense defenses — more post-nasal drip, higher elevations of body temperature, more coughing, more sneezing, etc. Another possibility is that the mask-wearing and social distancing of 2020 that almost wiped out the usual flu season gave our bodies less practice of fighting off pathogens, and so that now that we’re encountering the usual winter bugs and colds again, our immune systems are jumping to Defcon One.

The mRNA vaccines are very specific so its seems this quote (National review) seems misguided.
Unless a lot of other viruses and other protein associated invasions contain some "spot(s)" exactly like on the spike protein or very close to it.
These mRNA vaccines are the most specific we have ever made.

And as a sidebar to what some people are experiencing, there are others who wear masks and are vaccinated experiencing no colds and have not been sick from a virus and other bugs for an unusually long period of time.

Confederate/red states "nullifying" the US military

Pentagon goes on offense vs GOP on vaccine mandates

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt (R) tipped off the battle over who calls the shots in enforcing the requirement for National Guardsmen.

Now, with Texas becoming the seventh state to declare they will not impose the mandate on their National Guard,

the Pentagon is grappling with how to make sure its mandate is followed and how to prevent further states from piling on and resisting it.

“The only thing I would say is what I've said before — the vaccine is a valid military readiness requirement. It remains such.”

Republican lawmakers have repeatedly called for the department to rescind the requirement, arguing or backing a range of claims,

including Stitt’s stance that the mandate is unconstitutional and will hurt national security. :lol fuck shithole OK

Almost everybody I know, including myself, has had a non-covid cold or flu in the last month. There's a ton of virus circulating right now.

Fox News reports Covid-19 is both 'raging out of control' and 'good for society'

It has always been the case that vaccines do not prevent infection. I can understand Gates/Maddow etc. not understanding immunology well enough to know what this vaccine could/could not do. People like Fauci and Walensky certainly knew better but I think they believed their little white lie would encourage people to get vaccinated. It did just the opposite and gave the anti-vax peddlers more ammunition. They should have just told the truth about this virus and the vaccines and we would have higher vaccination rates imo.

Only 22.5% of US Covid-19 infections recorded in the week that ended on December 18 were linked to Omicron, rather than the 73.2% estimate that was announced last week, the CDC said on Tuesday. It also revealed that the new strain accounted for 58.6% of new cases in the week that ended on December 25, while almost all other infections were caused by the Delta variant.

The CDC attributed its huge miss on last week’s report – which triggered dramatic headlines about the variant’s lightning-fast spread – to new data becoming available. ABC News referred to Tuesday’s revised figure on Omicron cases as “noticeably lower.”

the premise that x does not work because it has y amount of failures is a slippery slope. we could say this about an almost infinite amount of drugs and products. the question really becomes defining the standard or threshold for what would be considered successful. it also begs the question (to which many often answer frivolously and without any justification) as to what the reason for failure would be.

"Sick madness":

The public reacts to the CDC's decision to cut COVID-19 self-isolation time in half

The reasoning behind these modifications are rooted in economics perhaps more than science. Dr. Anthony Fauci — director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and one of President Biden's chief science advisers — recently told CNN's Jim Acosta (https://www.cnn.com/2021/12/27/health/cdc-covid-quarantine-isolation-shortened-recommendation/index.html) that

"we want to get people back to the jobs, particularly the essential jobs, to keep society running smoothly."

studies show wide variations (https://www.nytimes.com/2021/12/27/health/omicron-cdc.html) in how long people will remain contagious after developing COVID-19.

Some even wonder whether pressure from airline CEOs,

who worry that long self-isolation periods hurt their bottom line, could have motivated the CDC.

The CDC did not simply impose a blanket reduction in self-quarantining time for infected individuals.

The agency added that the rule only applies to people who do not exhibit symptoms and

are willing to wear a mask around others for at least five days after leaving isolation.

The agency also revised its self-quarantining guidelines (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/your-health/quarantine-isolation.html#closecontact) for people who have merely been exposed to the virus;

partially vaccinated individuals are now asked to either isolate for five days and

then wear a mask around others for another five days, or

to wear a mask for all 10 days (if self-quarantining is not feasible).

"It's been glaringly obvious many of the CDC's recommendations are tied to [political] and economic concerns,

leaving the public confused/second guessing advice about masks, protocols, vaccines

while the anti-science sect sticks to singular (and horribly incorrect) messaging,"

"it will go down in the annals of the pandemic as a terrible horrible no good very bad politically/business-influenced decision that will endanger millions and squander public health trust!"

"Congrats to the Airline CEOs on being appointed head of @CDCgov,"

people who suspect the CDC is motivated by capitalism have good reason for doing so.

"In both Europe and the US, employers have frequently worked against [COVID-19] policies perceived by them to threaten profits,"

New Zealand and the People's Republic of China, where the influence of business interests was limited by institutions committed to other social priorities (such as unions, left-wing parties and so on), they were better prepared to cope with the disease.

"I have pointed out repeatedly that countries that are best at containing the pandemic have a mandatory isolation policy of anybody who is exposed for two weeks — anybody who is exposed, much less infected,"

"If you're infected, you are isolated for a minimum of two weeks and sometimes three weeks.

So we are exceptional, and I think this is a grave mistake because the data that I've seen suggests that people who are either exposed or infected may be continually infectious for at least two weeks and possibly three.

This is a serious mistake."

It's getting hospital workers back to work.

And I think it's particularly dangerous thing for them personally, because they may suffer health consequences, and

they still may be infectious for their patients and their families.

So I think it's a big mistake."

makes a lot of sense, actually

sober drivers (vaccinated folk) and drunk drivers (unvaccinated) can both cause fatal accidents (spread covid). hell, its even possible for a sober driver to kill another sober driver (a vaccinated person can transmit covid to another vaccinated person)

but we dont accept drunk driving because it elevates the risk of fatal accidents (unvaccinated people are more likely to have and thereby spread covid)

we still accept some baseline level of risk that even sober drivers can cause accidents (vaccinated people can have and thereby spread covid)

I think a better one would be the unvaccinated are like drivers not wearing seatbelts.

As a vaccinated person, I'm not worried about what an unvaccinated person can do to me anymore than I am what a vaccinated person can do to me. The vaccine doesn't provide sterilizing immunity, so the vaccine is to protect the individual.

The vaccine prevents most from getting the symptoms (called getting THE DISEASE) which is indicative that they are capable of spreading.
So drivers NOT wearing seatbelts are more likely to run into you?
Can you explain the mechanism behind this? Because they know if the do get into a wreck it aint gonna be good?
So if you do get infected AND give the disease to another person, you will THEN get infected AND get the disease?

I think a better one would be the unvaccinated are like drivers not wearing seatbelts.

As a vaccinated person, I'm not worried about what an unvaccinated person can do to me anymore than I am what a vaccinated person can do to me. The vaccine doesn't provide sterilizing immunity, so the vaccine is to protect the individual.
the seat belt one makes a less sense, because driver A deciding to wear a seatbelt or not has no bearing on driver/pedestrian B's safety (unless the lack of seatbelt causes driver A to get catapulted out the windshield and kamikaze somebody), whereas a person's decision to be unvaccinated (or dunk behind the wheel) causes heightened risk to himself and those around him

*Crinkle trash*

I agree that vaccination is like wearing a seat belt. If you drive long enough you will get in an accident. The seat belt hopefully prevents life threatening injury.

If you are out in public enough you are gonna get covid. Hopefully vaccination prevents life threatening injury.

This would be the way you would go about to TRY and catch the disease.

The vaccine does and still does work in increasing the probability you will NOT get the disease (this INCLUDES associated symptoms) we call Covid.

Thats a goal post move requiring symptoms. Asymptomatic are just as contagious as symptomatic. The vaccine doesn't prevent it. The vaccine is mostly for personal protection to hopefully prevent serious illness WHEN you get it.

And strike three again with probability.
The vaccine absolutely prevents symptoms that are indicative that someone is much more likely to spread it (shed virus).
Asymptomatic is rare and many ARE NOT ACTIVELY shedding virus.

your anecdotal experience is valid, but it does not trump published data. has shown time and time again the vaccines are effective at not only preventing serious symptoms/hospitalizations, but also infection

But you can be talking very loudly and singing next to someone in church (very prevalent in these bad outbreaks)
Thus we have asked people to wear masks, even if they know they do not have the disease and have been vaccinated. Because there are people who CANNOT receive the vaccine or who are very vulnerable to getting infected (people who have or are currently undergoing chemotherapy etc...) thus possibly on the track to getting the bad symptoms.

But its me, myself and I for the red team.
The masks are horribly constricting and make me wanna die on all the airplanes I have been on. Its an affront to MY rights. Fuck public health. And of course I am younger and probably would have minor symptoms so I should just say fk the vaccine. Because the vaccine is FALSELY more likely to cause problems. Here we go.

i'm so, so sorry that the vaccines work better than you think

The findings come from four weeks of additional data collected in CDC’s HEROES-RECOVER study of health care workers, first responders, frontline workers, and other essential workers. These groups are more likely to be exposed to the virus that causes COVID-19 because of their occupations. Preliminary results from this study were first announced in March 2021.

In the new analysis, 3,975 participants completed weekly SARS-CoV-2 testing for 17 consecutive weeks (from December 13, 2020 to April 10, 2021) in eight U.S. locations. Participants self-collected nasal swabs that were laboratory tested for SARS-CoV-2, which is the virus that causes COVID-19. If the tests came back positive, the specimens were further tested to determine the amount of detectable virus in the nose (i.e., viral load) and the number of days that participants tested positive (i.e., viral shedding). Participants were followed over time and the data were analyzed according to vaccination status. To evaluate vaccine benefits, the study investigators accounted for the circulation of SARS-CoV-2 viruses in the area and how consistently participants used personal protective equipment (PPE) at work and in the community. Once fully vaccinated, participants’ risk of infection was reduced by 91 percent. After partial vaccination, participants’ risk of infection was reduced by 81 percent. These estimates included symptomatic and asymptomatic infections.

It has been brought to my attention that I probably have and do get the flu virus. I can even get tested to prove this.
So because I personally have never had the what seem to be pretty horrid flu symptoms, I should not get vaccinated.
Well I DO get vaccinated every flu season because I MIGHT be a spreader, but I dont get the SYMPTOMS of the disease.

And now I can be called a white knight because I see public health as common sense, especially in large cities. Its kind of a UNITED States thing to do I was thinking.

For people who are unvaccinated or are more than six months out from their second mRNA dose (or more than 2 months after the J&J vaccine) and not yet boosted, CDC now recommends quarantine for 5 days followed by strict mask use for an additional 5 days. Alternatively, if a 5-day quarantine is not feasible, it is imperative that an exposed person wear a well-fitting mask at all times when around others for 10 days after exposure. Individuals who have received their booster shot do not need to quarantine following an exposure, but should wear a mask for 10 days after the exposure.

The next point of contention is going to be that it doesn’t technically prevent infections, it just substantially helps your body fight off the virus from taking hold, but you’re still ‘infected’.

If you are infectious, you are infected.

If you are infectious, you are infected.

Now add in the word symptoms with the word infection and infectious please.
Just a sample sentence.

I can tell you from numerous investigations that ejected occupants are far likelier to harm themselves than anyone else.

Do you really want to go there?

That's not the point. The point is that ejected occupants can still harm others. Rif.

Because I believe you dont want to, possibly because you dont really understand how they are used together.
We type freely all the time on here. Go ahead, you can do it. Your own sentence.

Instant deflection to Trump :lol

Joe lied. Admit it and move on.

I dont know a situation where he knew the information he was giving was false and he went ahead anyway.
I do know this for Trump.

And next election you will vote for Trump again, so it matters.

Lol

Hey hey now... a person ejected into the air can be considered a projectile.
And we all know projectiles can be dangerous if large, or moving at a high speed, or both, you know momentum.

It was known to be false the moment it came out of Joe’s mouth. He lied. Admit it and move on.

If you are infectious, you are infected.

The only way we know if you’re infected is with a test. You almost never get a test the exact moment the virus entered your body. There’s a window of time between exposure/infection and initial testing. Very often it’s in the range of days.
There’s possibly ample time for your body to fight off the virus before it actually takes hold and starts reproducing rapidly. The immune system largely dictates how that goes, and obviously varies from person to person. That’s why educating your immune system about the virus, what vaccination does, is important.
