The craziest to me is India. Singapore has a dope medical system that makes South Korea look like chump change. I'd be surprised if that were true of India.

Appears they have been heavily screening travelers since early Feb.

Still, if it was going to really take off somewhere, you'd think it would be India.

Agree. Indian cities, besides Mumbai, are overcrowded shitholes with terrible hygiene and extremely poor social and health services.

They eat with their fucking hands instead of utensils , it's disgusting.

I'm reading that the deaths are actually coming from fast onset severe myocarditis. Sometimes AFTER the respiratory symptoms resolve or seem to be abating.

The virus itself appears to affect heme also. Which could go hand it hand why the malaria drug seems to have some efficacy. Also why pts with higher hemoglobin A1c are seemingly more vulnerable to severe infection.

We wouldn't be in the mess, if the Chinese didn't insist on eating every disgusting creature that moved.

It really isn't their diet, such much as hygiene.

They stack open crates of multiple species on top of each other. Species A in the top layer shits/pisses on species B in the middle, who, in turn both shit on species C. Just takes one of those animals to track through a cave or somewhere bats congregate to get whatever they have in their guts all over their feet.

Bush meat kills that way, and the way they slaughter these animals makes it worse.

Hydroxychloroquine (brand name Plaquenil) demonstrated to be as effective (roughly) as chloroquine phosphate at inhibiting viral replication in vitro
https://www.nature.com/articles/s41421-020-0156-0

This is good news as we (USA) don't use chloroquine phosphate much. Idk where it is manufactured though. Hopefully not just China and India like Chloroquine phosphate.

Both drugs are for treating malaria but both have been used for rheumatoid arthritis treatment as well. In addition to inhibiting viral replication they also inhibit cytokine response (the infamous cytokine storm) which is what is killing people. It's the cytokine response that also causes rheumatoid arthritis

If one was to become seriously ill you could request to be treated with Plaquenil. This would provide cover to your physician to use an off label unapproved treatment.

Covering himself in false, LYING praise

Another Trump excuse:

'This has never been done before.' :lol

Imagine OTHER presidents saying that?

George Washington: Well, we gave that “new nation” thing a try, but it’s not my fault. It has never been done before.

Abraham Lincoln: Yeah, it sucks to see the South go, but it’s not my fault. A civil war wasn’t something ever done before.

Franklin D. Roosevelt: Damn, there goes Europe. Hope the Nazis aren’t too bad! But it’s not my fault. An evil marauding invading army wasn’t something that had ever been done before.

Dwight D. Eisenhower: Oof, I know, driving those small roads from city to city is brutal. Wish I could’ve pulled off that “interstate highway” thing. But not my fault! A road system has never been done before.

John F. Kennedy: Sorry about the whole nuclear holocaust thing. But it’s not my fault we botched the Cuban missile crisis. It had never been done before.

Lyndon B. Johnson: Darn it, black people still can’t vote. But hey, what could I do? Not my fault. This had never been done before.

Barack Obama: Sorry to see the whole economy collapse, ushering the “Great Depression of the 2000s,” but not my fault. This had never been done before! Sure would’ve been nice to have more people insured, huh? Not my fault. Yup. It had never been done before.

As for the former dumbest president ever?

George W. Bush: Sorry about ignoring that intelligence briefing titled “Bin Laden determined to strike the U.S.,” then attacking the wrong country in response, costing millions of lives, trillions of dollars, and giving rise to ISIS.

Over ‘Bioweapon’ COVID-19

The suit relies on tabloid news articles that succeeded in spreading the now-popular conspiracy theory that

Question:

Would you rather?

A. Get it very early on. If you have a bad outcome, at least the system isn't yet swamped.

B. Be as careful as possible and don't get it until next wave. By then, maybe more is known about good treatments with drugs.

I've had this debate in my head.

Obviously, the worst case, you get it when the system is at peak of overloaded capacity.

doesn't matter either way considering you can keep getting infected.

Not only that, but the fact that it was common knowledge that Trump basically gutted the pandemic response team. Then there was the fact that he was slow to respond once this was obviously spreading.

you know he took the cdc back to default right? he didn't defund anything not gut anything. all this before china decided to use a bio weapon to bring down the economy worldwide while killing thousands upon thousands of people. fuck china!

the nail in our coffins was CDC being fucking stupid and tryingto make their own test. they could easily have used the great German test. but no its gotta be Murican made contracted to some big american pharma corp

they made their test which was a pile of garbage that did not work. they had to redo it and it wasted a minimum of 3 weeks

Once 5G launches, people are gonna drop like flies and Coronavirus will be to blame for the all the deaths and illnesses that are about come as a result of 5G radiation. Get tested for all the other things it could be at least. Or have you?

If there's a chance you have it, I think you should stay away from immuno compromised people just from a risk standpoint. Even if its an extremely low risk you have it, the outcome if you do have it and spread it in that community is an outright disaster.

Even if its an extremely low risk you have it, the outcome if you do have it and spread it in that community is an outright disaster.I had a viral respiratory panel done. It was negative. Ive been sending meds out by delivery as much as possible, but some of our patients live with families who don't know they are HIV positive, so its a non-starter. The pharmacy legally needs a pharmacist on site to be open. The soonest they can get a replacement is march 26th. I've had symptoms for 3 days. It'll run its course by then, whatever it may be. I am taking every precaution I can until then. I just feel like its still the wrong decision to be there.

END GOVERNEMNT CONTROL OVER OUR LIVES.

IF NOT NOW, WHEN?

American adults of all ages — not just those in their 70s, 80s and 90s — are being seriously sickened by the coronavirus, according to a report on nearly 2,500 of the first recorded cases in the United States.
The report, issued Wednesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, found that — as in other countries — the oldest patients had the greatest likelihood of dying and of being hospitalized. But of the 508 patients known to have been hospitalized, 38 percent were notably younger — between 20 and 54. And nearly half of the 121 patients who were admitted to intensive care units were adults under 65, the C.D.C. reported.
“I think everyone should be paying attention to this,” said Stephen S. Morse, a professor of epidemiology at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health. “It’s not just going to be the elderly. There will be people age 20 and up. They do have to be careful, even if they think that they’re young and healthy.”
The findings served to underscore an appeal issued Wednesday at a White House briefing by Dr. Deborah Birx, a physician and State Department official who is a leader of the administration’s coronavirus task force. Citing similar reports of young adults in Italy and in France being hospitalized and needing intensive care, Dr. Birx implored the millennial generation to stop socializing in groups and to take care to protect themselves and others.
“You have the potential then to spread it to someone who does have a condition that none of us knew about, and cause them to have a disastrous outcome,” Dr. Birx said, addressing young people.
In the C.D.C. report, 20 percent of the hospitalized patients and 12 percent of the intensive care patients were between the ages of 20 and 44, basically spanning the millennial generation.
“Younger people may feel more confident about their ability to withstand a virus like this,” said Dr. Christopher Carlsten, head of respiratory medicine at the University of British Columbia. But, he said, “if that many younger people are being hospitalized, that means that there are a lot of young people in the community that are walking around with the infection.”
The new data represents a preliminary look at the first significant wave of cases in the United States that does not include people who returned to the country from Wuhan, China, or from Japan, the authors reported. Between Feb. 12 and March 16, there were 4,226 such cases reported to the C.D.C., the study says.
The ages were reported for 2,449 of those patients, the C.D.C. said, and of those, 6 percent were 85 and older, and 25 percent were between 65 and 84. Twenty-nine percent were aged 20 to 44.
The age groups of 55 to 64 and 45 to 54 each included 18 percent of the total. Only 5 percent of cases were diagnosed in people 19 and younger.
.
The report included no information about whether patients of any age had underlying risk factors, such as a chronic illness or a compromised immune system. So, it is impossible to determine whether the younger patients who were hospitalized were more susceptible to serious infection than most others in their age group.
But experts said that even if younger people in the report were medical outliers, the fact that they were taking up hospital beds and space in intensive care units was significant.
And these more serious cases represent the leading edge of how the pandemic is rapidly unfolding in the United States, showing that adults of all ages are susceptible and should be concerned about protecting their own health, and not transmitting the virus to others.
The youngest age group, people 19 and under, accounted for less than 1 percent of the hospitalizations, and none of the I.C.U. admissions or deaths. This dovetails with data from other countries so far. This week, however, the largest study to date of pediatric cases in China found that a small segment of very young children may need hospitalization for very serious symptoms, and that one 14-year-old boy in China died from the virus.
Of the 44 people whose deaths were recorded in the report, 15 were age 85 or older and 20 were between the ages of 65 to 84. There were nine deaths among adults age 20 to 64, the report said.
Some of the patients in the study are still sick, the authors noted, so the results of their cases are unclear. Data was missing for a number of the cases, “which likely resulted in an underestimation of the outcomes,” the authors wrote. Because of the missing data, the authors presented percentages of hospitalizations, I.C.U. admissions and deaths as a range. The report also says that the limited testing available in the United States so far makes this report only an early snapshot of the crisis.
Still, the authors wrote, “these preliminary data also demonstrate that severe illness leading to hospitalization, including I.C.U. admission and death, can occur in adults of any age with Covid-19.”
Roni Caryn Rabin contributed reporting.

one of the most sinister aspects, as Italy discovered, is that infected and INFECTIOUS people are asymptomatic for 5-7 days before symptoms.

I don't know if it's still in effect, but a CDC insane rule says no testing until symptoms.

Perhaps that rule was justified due to few test kits available,

I'm in a bit of a tricky situation. I have some cold symptoms...cough, sore throat, fatigue. I'm a pharmacist at an HIV clinic (the only pharmacist there) and my employer can't find relief for me. I am extremely conflicted about going to work as I could possibly be a carrier in one of the most vulnerable patient populations there is. They also wont test me as my symptoms are "not severe enough." As if that matters.

I've seen fever, cough and shortness of breath, bluish lips (lack of O2 obviously), pressure in the chest and confusion listed as well. Haven't seen sore throat though as a symptom. Regardless, even if you have strep or something else, that's a reason to avoid going to work regardless of what your employer can find.

There is some info that appears to show this might depend significantly on lung health and vitality. Vapers and smokers good luck. Asthmatics congenital stuff in the lungs, stay away from people. Today’s news. Tomorrow we might get something else.

Good news for me today because I’m back in the mix job wise. We are doing small group with distancing. Someone has got to have the stuff in our group(s). So I’m thinking I will get it and have mild symptoms. Other people in my closest relationships world are working somewhere in something medical related so my thinking is we will all get it. Testing would be nice. In SA at the moment, some GPs are swabbing, but you have to go in AND have symptoms. They will take a sample in the parking lot. Almost Sounds like drug deals.

I wonder if this will be considered like an Eagle Scout Badge in the future. You had the covid? check the box. And we salute you, don’t give blood. Maybe it will scarlet letter, who knows. Probably people won’t even care.

In January 2017, the Obama administration’s transition team conducted tabletop disaster response activities with Trump's top aides.

One of those tests was eerily prescient—a strain of novel and deadly influenza they called H9N2, origination in Asia and quickly spreading to Europe and then to the U.S.

"Health officials warn that this could become the worst influenza pandemic since 1918," the Obama team told Trump's aides

Those materials show that the "Trump team was told it could face specific challenges,

We’re tracking the latest on the coronavirus outbreak and the global response. Sign up here for our daily newsletter on what you need to know.
Drug trials on coronavirus patients in China yielded mixed results, with an HIV pill showing little benefit and a flu medication made by Fujifilm Holdings Corp. resulting in faster clearance of the virus.

The combination of lopinavir and ritonavir, marketed by AbbVie Inc. as Kaletra, didn’t improve the condition of severe Covid-19 patients or prevent them from dying more than standard care in a randomized, controlled trial of 199 patients. The research was published Wednesday in the New England Journal of Medicine.

A separate study of 80 patients receiving Fujifilm’s favipiravir, or Avigan, found it helped clear the virus from patients a week earlier than the HIV medicine and was associated with improved chest symptoms shown on CT scans.

The favipiravir study, which wasn’t randomized, was conducted in a different group of patients and at a later time point when doctors might have discovered better ways to care for patients, Evercore ISI analyst Umer Raffat said in a note.

The clinical research on favipiravir augers well for another anti-viral, Gilead Sciences Inc.’s experimental drug remdesivir, which is also undergoing clinical trials in China, Tyler Van Buren, an analyst with Piper Sandler said. Results of the remdesivir study are yet to be published.
“If successful, it could be approved for broad use in the coming months considering it’s safe, the bar for efficacy in the context of the ongoing global pandemic is low,” he said.

Patients in the lopinavir and ritonavir trial were also found to show more gastrointestinal side effects such as vomiting and diarrhea than those not given the drug in the comparison group. Nearly 14% of those taking the drug were unable to finish the 14-day therapy, mostly because of the gastrointestinal disorders.

We are testing more. There always were vastly more cases out there than we even now know about. That was bound to happen.

It will keep going up sharply as we roll out more testing to get a better handle on it.

The deaths per infection will likely go down a bit. AHA estimates place it at 0.5%, and this is leading that at 2%, so that is going to be more in line with their estimate, if so.

Plot it out.

Bell shaped curve. two months... total cumulative infected 35M.

PHOENIX — As the number of coronavirus cases continue to increase in Arizona, health care facilities and their staffs have to effectively prioritize their time, testing and treatment regarding the infectious disease.
Although many Valley residents want to be tested for COVID-19, not everyone qualifies.
Frank LoVecchio, an emergency room physician at Valleywise Health Medical Center in Phoenix, told KTAR News 92.3 FM that certain criteria must be met.

He explained that the most eligible to receive testing for coronavirus are those who are already very sick with something such as pneumonia, or an individual who already requires use of a respirator.
Patients who’ve traveled to a country where the coronavirus outbreak is happening and are showing flu-like symptoms are also eligible for testing.

“If none of those criteria are met, then we’re not allowed to give the test,” LoVecchio said.
“We have to ration the test; it’s not our choice. We’d love to give the test to everyone who wanted it.”
He said when there’s a patient who qualifies for the test, the hospital contacts the Arizona Department of Health Services to do the testing.
Patients who are tested are then placed in isolation at the hospital until test results come back.
“They don’t give us an answer until about 3 to 5 days, which is very, very difficult,” LoVecchio said.
“We have a few patients waiting for the answer, and they are very sick.”
The testing for coronavirus is led by the Arizona State Public Health Laboratory, which has a capacity to test up to 450 people each day.
Commercial testing has also started. Among the private hospitals and labs in Arizona providing testing are Mayo Clinic, TGen, and Sonora Quest Laboratories.

LoVecchio said if you’re feeling flu-like symptoms – like a cough or fever – and can’t get tested for the coronavirus, he recommends staying home and isolating yourself for 12 days.
“And I would you tell others that you have that, I think you should,” he said. “It’s the right thing to do.”

The HHS report makes some of the same assumptions about the extent and effects of the coronavirus itself:

The fact that no one is immune makes it nearly impossible to prevent, or even slow, the spread of the disease.
We still don’t have enough information to accurately define the spread, or the severity of the overall epidemic in the U.S.
State, local, and tribal authorities are going to need federal assistance and look to the federal government for consistent guidance.
The epidemic in the United States will likely last 18 months, or longer, and could include multiple waves of illness.

That last point, laid on top of similar predictions from the Imperial College report, is more than daunting.

Both reports are calling for a “lost year,” and then some.

A year in which many of the wheels of everyday life grind to a halt.

A year in which no one—no one—can determine the economic or societal fallout.

Intelligence Chairman Raised Virus Alarms Weeks Ago, Secret Recording Shows

The chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee warned a small group of well-connected constituents three weeks ago to prepare for dire economic and societal effects of the coronavirus, according to a secret recording obtained by NPR.

The remarks from U.S. Sen. Richard Burr were more stark than any he had delivered in more public forums.

On Feb. 27, when the United States had 15 confirmed cases of COVID-19, President Trump was tamping down fears and suggesting that the virus could be seasonal.

"It's going to disappear. One day, it's like a miracle. It will disappear," the president said then, before adding, "it could get worse before it gets better. It could maybe go away. We'll see what happens."

On that same day, Burr attended a luncheon held at a social club called the Capitol Hill Club. And he delivered a much more alarming message.

Thirteen days before the State Department began to warn against travel to Europe, and 15 days before the Trump administration banned European travelers, Burr warned those in the room to reconsider.

"Every company should be cognizant of the fact that you may have to alter your travel. You may have to look at your employees and judge whether the trip they're making to Europe is essential or whether it can be done on video conference. Why risk it?" Burr said.

Sixteen days before North Carolina closed its schools over the threat of the coronavirus, Burr warned it could happen.

"There will be, I'm sure, times that communities, probably some in North Carolina, have a transmission rate where they say, 'Let's close schools for two weeks. Everybody stay home,' " he said.

And Burr invoked the possibility that the military might be mobilized to combat the coronavirus. Only now, three weeks later, is the public learning of that prospect.

"We're going to send a military hospital there; it's going to be in tents and going to be set up on the ground somewhere," Burr said at the luncheon. "It's going to be a decision the president and DOD make. And we're going to have medical professionals supplemented by local staff to treat the people that need treatment."

Burr has a unique perspective on the government's response to a pandemic, and not just because of his role as Intelligence Committee chairman. He helped to write the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act (PAHPA), which forms the framework for the federal response.

But in his public comments about the threat of COVID-19, Burr never offered the kind of precise warning that he delivered to the small group of his constituents.

There is no immunity, and no vaccine. Normal flu seasons have tens of millions of infections, and you have the "herd immunity" slowing progress.

96M is only about 33% of the population, low as far as flu seasons go.

Dunno, really don't. Remember our figures for confirmed cases is likely far too low due to the Trump administrations bungling with the widespread roll out of testing. We just don't know at this point. The actual number of infections MUST be higher.

Kenji Shibuya, a professor at King’s College London and a former chief of health policy at the World Health Organization, sees two possibilities: that Japan has contained the spread by focusing on outbreak clusters, or that there are outbreaks yet to be found.

“Both are reasonable, but my guess is that Japan is about to see the explosion and will inevitably shift from containment to delay-the-peak phase very soon,” he said. “The number of tests is increasing, but not enough.”

More than 99% of Italy’s coronavirus fatalities were people who suffered from previous medical conditions, according to a study by the country’s national health authority.

After deaths from the virus reached more than 2,500, with a 150% increase in the past week, health authorities have been combing through data to provide clues to help combat the spread of the disease.

Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte’s government is evaluating whether to extend a nationwide lockdown beyond the beginning of April, daily La Stampa reported Wednesday. Italy has more than 31,500 confirmed cases of the illness.

The new study could provide insight into why Italy’s death rate, at about 8% of total infected people, is higher than in other countries.

The Rome-based institute has examined medical records of about 18% of the country’s coronavirus fatalities, finding that just three victims, or 0.8% of the total, had no previous pathology. Almost half of the victims suffered from at least three prior illnesses and about a fourth had either one or two previous conditions.

More than 75% had high blood pressure, about 35% had diabetes and a third suffered from heart disease.

The median age of the infected is 63 but most of those who die are older. The average age of those who’ve died from the virus in Italy is 79.5. As of March 17, 17 people under 50 had died from the disease. All of Italy’s victims under 40 have been males with serious existing medical conditions.

While data released Tuesday point to a slowdown in the increase of cases, with a 12.6% rise, a separate study shows Italy could be underestimating the real number of cases by testing only patients presenting symptoms.

According to the GIMBE Foundation, about 100,000 Italians have contracted the virus, daily Il Sole 24 Ore reported. That would bring back the country’s death rate closer to the global average of about 2%.

It's possible some of you already had this, recovered, and never knew it.

Possible but pretty fucking unlikely. People talking about this are grasping at straws to be hopeful they're already immune.

I'm just basing it on certain percentage that have little to no symptoms.

China would not let WHO OR CDC in when this began and still don’t give the proper info when asked for it.

MSM has to find a way to get China offin' the hook. The old man grinding on their ass each day "Chinese Virus" has MSM steamed & flat eared. Frankly, China doesn't give a shit, but, it bugs MSM no end.

& the old man ain't giving it up. He found a path into a sweet spot & will-not-stop.
