I haven’t seen any reports that flat out say the virus causes long term disability. Even your hotez tweet walked back from saying people are being permanently harmed.

I’m not saying there is that link or that there isn’t. Just that the literature hasn’t concluded one way or another. So you can calm down from your little tizzy.

There is increasing number of anecdotes.

eg, if your lungs are 25% - 50% destroyed, you are permanently disabled

I've read some real horror stories 2 or 3 months after surviving. A insane variety of symptoms.

'We'll be living with masks for years':

COVID-19 through the eyes of a pandemic expert

to walk through a theoretical coronavirus outbreak and examine how governments and private businesses would respond.

The goal of the simulations is to help public health experts and policymakers better prepare for the eventual day a real pandemic arrives.

"The US response has been extraordinarily disappointing and wrongheaded,"

"Whenever there's been an opportunity to do the right thing,

we seem to have done the wrong thing.

The US has to recognize that it is competing for first or second position of

the worst affected country in the world."

there's going to be

no summertime lull

with a big wave in the fall.

It's clear that we are having a significant resurgence of cases in the summer, and they'll get bigger.

And it'll keep going until we lock things down again."

"(CNN)The cough has come back, without warning and seemingly for no reason; so has the fatigue. True, neither are as debilitating as when I had the actual virus, but they are back.

Like many others, I am now coming to realize that I am living and suffering from the long tail of Covid-19.

I got infected back in mid-April. The onset of symptoms came quickly. I suddenly noticed I was feeling very tired and I had a new cough. I got tested and the morning after I received a phone call from the medical center, I had tested positive for coronavirus.

The virus is like a tornado. When it lands, it swirls through the body, causing chaos, confusion, coughs, wreaking damage to each organ it touches. Some won't survive its visit. For those that do, when it has gone, one surveys the damage to the human landscape and realizes it's much greater than first thought. My symptoms were on the milder side: I never had breathing difficulties, or loss of sense or smell. I was wiped-out tired and I always had "the cough," which has now returned......."

After "survival", the symptoms remains for weeks or months, and symptoms vary from victim to victim, vary in intensity, and vary in time within one victim.

And like Quest, the attack doesn't have to be severe to have a long tail of nasty, debilitating symptoms.

'A gut punch': United Airlines to lay off up to 36,000 U.S. employees in October as travel remains depressed

United Airlines warned employees for months that mass layoffs loomed if travel didn't rebound, and the airline put a grim face on the expected tally Wednesday.

In a memo to employees, the Chicago-based airline said 36,000 employees, or 45% of its front-line workers in the USA and more than a third of its overall workforce of 95,000, face layoffs on or around Oct. 1. The most affected groups: flight attendants and airport customer service and gate agents, which account for 26,000 of the 36,000.

The airline calls them involuntary furloughs because most of the affected employees will be eligible to be recalled when travel demand returns under terms of their union contracts.

Airlines are prohibited from laying off workers until Oct. 1 under the payroll protection provisions of the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act.

United received a $3.5 billion grant and $1.5 billion loan for payroll protection. The program was designed to stabilize airlines and keep workers employed until they could shrink their businesses to the travel reality brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.

56 Florida hospitals hit 100% ICU capacity as

GOP’s DeSantis defends refusal to release coronavirus data

At least 56 Florida hospitals in 25 different counties have hit 100% ICU capacity,

. In all, the state has just 962 out of a total of 5,023 ICU beds available as infections continue to rise.

One expert said contact tracing has become impossible (https://nbcpalmsprings.com/2020/07/07/contact-tracing-no-longer-possible-across-the-south-due-to-rapid-coronavirus-surges/), because here are so many infections now in South Florida.

“It’s these games with public records. They won’t release it unless there’s public pressure or a lawsuit filed. It’s infuriating,” he told The Miami Herald (https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/florida-still-not-reporting-how-many-hospitalized-with-covid-desantis-wont-say-why/ar-BB16sfEO).

“I suspect that one of the concerns is that we are going to see a divergence in numbers.”

“Much of the [health department’s] case data doesn’t match the AHCA data, and the AHCA data . . . third parties are publishing doesn’t match the data AHCA publishes themselves,”

the state has also refused to publish any data on testing and cases in prisons and jails, demographic data on who is being tested, local death data and any contact tracing data.

the state reported a “record of 16.27% of all coronavirus tests coming back positive . . . more than double the national seven-day moving average,”

“Certainly, all indications are things are not getting better.

They are not getting steady,”

“They are getting worse.”

“This is spreading quite rapidly throughout Florida, and

this virus is going to be around for a very long time,”

GOP Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is focused on protecting companies from liability if they infect their employees or customers, while

US weekly jobless claims hit 1.3 million, less than economist forecasts

US jobless claims for the week that ended Saturday totaled 1.3 million, the Labor Department said Thursday. That came in below the consensus economist estimate of 1.38 million.
Thursday's report marked the 14th straight week of declining claims. It also brought total filings over a 16-week period to nearly 50 million.
Continuing claims, the aggregate total of people receiving unemployment benefits, totaled 18.1 million for the week that ended June 27.

For the 1/100th time, the reason we show so many Cases, compared to other countries that haven’t done nearly as well as we have, is that our TESTING is much bigger and better. We have tested 40,000,000 people. If we did 20,000,000 instead, Cases would be half, etc. NOT REPORTED!

Does the president work in time scale units of 100,000 as the whole so that he really meant 100th?

The current approach to dealing with COVID-19 carries significant risks to overall population health and threatens to increase inequities across the country. Aiming to prevent or contain every case of COVID-19 is simply no longer sustainable at this stage in the pandemic. We need to accept that COVID-19 will be with us for some time and to find ways to deal with it.

The current and proposed measures for reopening will continue to disproportionately impact lower income groups, Black and other racialized groups, recent immigrants to Canada, Indigenous peoples and other populations. And it risks significantly harming our children, particularly the very young, by affecting their development, with life-long consequences in terms of education, skills development, income and overall health.

Canada must work to minimize the impact of COVID-19 by using measures that are practical, effective and compatible with our values and sense of social justice. We need to focus on preventing deaths and serious illness by protecting the vulnerable while enabling society to function and thrive.

Elimination of COVID-19 is not a practical objective for Canada until we have a vaccine. While there is hope for a vaccine to be developed soon, we must be realistic about the time it will actually take to develop and evaluate it and then deliver an immunization campaign covering the entire population. We cannot sustain universal control measures indefinitely.

We need to accept that there will be cases and outbreaks of COVID-19. We need localized control measures that are risk-based. We should consistently reassess quarantine and isolation periods, recommendations for physical distancing and non-medical masks, and travel restrictions based on current best evidence and levels of risk.

At the same time we must improve infection prevention and control in long-term care and congregate living settings. We should provide support for people living in the community who need to or choose to isolate when the disease is active, as well as those who have been adversely affected by COVID-19, or the consequences of the public health measures.

Canadians have developed a fear of COVID-19. Going forward, they have to be supported in understanding their true level of risk, and learning how to deal with this disease, while getting on with their lives – back to work, back to school, and back to healthy lives and vibrant, active communities across this country.

We acknowledge the heroic work that has been done in recent months by many across all levels of government and the public and private sector, and the sacrifices that Canadians have made to get to this stage. As we look forward, Canada must balance its response to COVID-19.

just my opinion
but I think when they actually get more time to assess this we are going to see various organs deprived of O2 showing decreased efficiency and failure. Nervous system and kidneys especially as they will be more obvious. Those who had breathing difficulty as a symptom especially, although some people who had no difficulty breathing had very low O2 levels and should have exhibited breathing problems. There is still a lot of weird associated with getting this.

Our Minds Aren’t Equipped for This Kind of Reopening

As states ease restrictions on businesses, individuals face a psychological morass.

Reopening is a mess.

Americans’ disgust should be aimed at governments and institutions, not at one another.

Individuals are being asked to decide for themselves what chances they should take,

but a century of research on human cognition shows that

people are bad at assessing risk in complex situations.

During a disease outbreak,

vague guidance and ambivalent behavioral norms will lead to thoroughly flawed thinking.

Pandemic decision making implicates at least two complex cognitive tasks:

moral reasoning and risk evaluation.

American Passports Are Worthless Now

Americans have gone from having access to most of the world to being banned from most of it.

Today, Americans are only allowed in a few Caribbean islands and the Balkans. An American passport is now worthless.

Worse than worthless, it’s a plague.

think it is difficult for Americans to understand that

they are, to use an epidemiological term, completely fucked.

In the absence of a humane government, America is now ruled by COVID-19.

January 2021. Given than you need a functioning government to manage this pandemic, that’s the soonest Americans can get one.

It’s far too late.

The most reliable projections (https://covid19-projections.com/) are saying

200,000 dead and

50 million infected

by election day in November.

Even these projections struggle to account for

completely irrational federal actions like

denigrating masks,

pushing to reopen early, and

pushing students back into schools.

This is not the absence of public health, this is its opposite.

America will be lucky to exit this pandemic with less than a million dead and 100 million infected.

you can’t trust Americans.

Americans have poor hygiene (low masking rate) and

at least 40% of the population can’t be trusted to even believe that COVID-19 exists, let alone to take it seriously.

Americans have a toxic combination of ignorance and arrogance that makes them unwelcome travelers.

I agree with this.
But in biological sciences overall WE are the best. We need and do cooperate with China to get even better stuff. The lady that actually found the bats with this virus and is really responsible for helping us follow the virus as it creeps and crosses the world is from China. She ran all this stuff by us before she even published. She has been instrumental in this whole thing in finding the probable location where this thing arose. The rest of the world can get samples and run their RNA so we can follow it. We set up all these techniques. We have far outdone other countries is the creation of new techniques in molecular biology.

But at this rate it wont last with a guy in office who does not understand the advantage of recruiting capable people in science. The only advantage we have now is a bit more freedom in their ability to publish, otherwise they are starting to get more freedom to search and do basic research in stuff they are interested in and in their home country. this is my take. And we won't give it to him :lol. He'll only lose some of the base. Desperation move, indeed.

Nearly 1 in 4 US teachers at greater risk of becoming seriously ill if infected with coronavirus

Kaiser Family Foundation ... looked at a series of factors identified by the Centers of Disease Control which could indicate that a person could be “more likely than others to become severely ill,” when they are exposed to the virus.

They include several underlying health conditions — such as

diabetes,
chronic obstructive pulmonary disease,
heart disease,
moderate or severe asthma,
having a body mass index of greater than 40, or
having a compromised immune system due to, for example, treatment for cancer —
as well as being age 65 and older.

The analysis found that about 1.47 million teachers and instructors in the country — nearly 24% of the entire workforce — have a condition that will put them at higher risk of serious illness from coronavirus.

means that “they may require hospitalization, intensive care, or a ventilator to help them breathe, or they may even die.”

MISgoverned USA not doing enough testing to control the pandemic.

Testing is now rationed due to lack of test kits and/or lab capacity.

btw, the The Trump Pandemic surge has surpassed the need for PPE, also being rationed, re-used, etc.

"Infections are rapidly spreading among U.S. personnel when we Okinawans are doing our utmost to contain the infections."

dozens of Marines stationed on the Japanese island tested positive,

Long delays in getting test results hobble coronavirus response

Test results for the novel coronavirus (https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2020/02/28/what-you-need-know-about-coronavirus/?itid=lk_inline_manual_2) are taking so long to come back that experts say the results across the United States are often proving useless in the campaign to control the deadly disease.

Some testing sites are struggling to provide results in five to seven days.

Others are taking even longer.

Outbreaks across the Sun Belt have strained labs beyond capacity.

That rising demand, in turn, has caused shortages of swabs, chemical reagents and equipment as far away as New York.

making it impossible for the United States to replicate the central strategy used by other countries to effectively contain the virus — test, trace and isolate.

“It makes contact tracing almost useless. By the time a person is getting results, they already have symptoms, their contacts may already have symptoms and have gone on to infect others.”

because of a lack of federal coordination, supply shortages and surging demand as outbreaks in some states spiral out of control.

“Instead of building that out,

our federal response was to do the very least possible.

So each time the system is stretched now, it breaks down all over again,”

free tests are available at the federal, state and local level.

As demand has surged, it has created backlogs and choke points at almost every step of the testing chain.
“It’s not shortages of any one thing. It’s now spot shortages of all of them,”

“Clinical labs need
more swabs,
chemical reagents,
viral transport media,
test kits,
machines to process the tests,
staffing to run the machines.”

As bad as the testing lags seem now, experts warn, they will almost certainly worsen in the fall once flu season hits.

“You’re going to see so many more symptomatic people,

who won’t know if they have the flu or coronavirus and are going to need testing for both,”

“We’re expecting a coming crush of tests, even more than we’re seeing now.”

France's health workers given pay rises worth €8bn

The French government has agreed to give pay rises worth €8bn (£7.2bn; $9bn) to health workers, as it hailed their role in fighting coronavirus.

The deal was signed with trade unions on Monday after seven weeks of fraught negotiations.

Health workers have been revered as heroes during the pandemic with regular displays of public appreciation.

But they wanted more than recognition and have held protests to demand pay rises and better funding for hospitals.

Now the government has reached an agreement on pay that will see the wages of health workers rise by €183 a month on average.

Covid-19 Patients Are Struggling To Cope After Leaving Hospitals

Patients who battle severe after-effects of the viral infection are turning to local doctors or YouTube videos for help in the absence of post-discharge rehab protocols.

https://img.huffingtonpost.com/asset/5f070bee1f0000ae07337c39.jpeg?cache=x4ufg33kgv&ops=crop_0_244_780_591,scalefit_720_noupscale

The severe lung damage caused by SARS CoV-2 has left the 30-year-old prone to exertional dyspnea, which makes him constantly feel like he’s running out of breath.

Months after the pandemic began, it’s clear that Covid-19 wreaks havoc in the lungs of moderate to critically ill patients as they grapple with weakness, breathlessness and fatigue for weeks, if not months.

It’s like the lungs forget their primary function.

Hence, say experts, pulmonary rehabilitation, aimed at reminding the lungs to do what they do—

inhale, exhale and supply a good amount of oxygen to the body through a set of individualised but monitored exercises—

is critical to the recovery process.

“I still have cramps, shivering and unexplainable weakness.

Moving from the bed to pick up the cell phone lying on the side table is exhausting,”

Agreed!

The brief notes that if the country fails to invest in solutions that can help heal the nation’s isolation, pain, and suffering, the collective impact of COVID-19 will be even more devastating.

Maybe we can peel off a cool 200 billion off the defense budget next year to "invest in these solutions." Nah, we won't do that. Better just to force these people back to work so the stock market can get a bump.

It's truly unfortunate they've been largely MIA so far, tbh

Well, I don't have to agree with their opinion on social issues, but I do have to take into account his professional expertise when it comes to the virus itself.

After all, he worked for the WHO before, he helped eradicate smallpox back in the day, and he is an epidemiologist after all.

100s of health workers killed, for-profit insurers say to their families: fuck you

Families of Health Workers Killed by COVID Fight for Denied Workers’ Comp Benefits

Anderson was exposed to the virus at work, the lawyer contends, making his family eligible for workers’ compensation death benefits paid by his employer’s insurer.

“His family deserves to have that income replaced,” Stern said. “Their husband and father certainly can’t be.”

But in a June 16 response to Stern’s death benefits claim,

sick workers and families of the dead face another daunting burden:

fighting for benefits from workers’ compensation systems that, in some states, are stacked against them.

Legal experts say that

in some states COVID-19 falls into a long-standing category of diseases like a cold or the flu —

conditions not covered by workers’ compensation —

with no plans to change that.

Other states force workers to prove they caught the virus at work, rather than from a family member or in the community.

Like Tegnell, Ioannidis early on expressed doubts about the effectiveness of lockdowns and warned they could produce wide-ranging unintended outcomes.

“One of the bottom lines is that we don’t know how long social distancing measures and lockdowns can be maintained without major consequences to the economy, society, and mental health,” Ioannidis wrote in a STAT article in March. "Unpredictable evolutions may ensue, including financial crisis, unrest, civil strife, war, and a meltdown of the social fabric.”

Sadly, many of the adverse consequences Ioannidis predicted have since come to pass, as he has acknowledged.

Is this guy trying to imply that Covid deaths are simply "balancing the scales" per the CDC's multiyear projection of flu deaths? Further implying that there's nothing to see here. "Hey, when you zoom out over the past 3 years, we beat the death projections for respiratory illnesses!"

If he's trying to fire a warning shot to prepare for a very bad flu season that will run alongside Covid, fair enough. But I saw he retweets Justin Hart, so now I'm reading this with a bit more skepticism. Ah, there it is.

This streamlining will allow the NHSN to increase its focus on another critical area for COVID-19, the nursing home and long-term care facility reporting needs—which, as we know, is also an absolutely central element of our pandemic response. All elements of our public health system are being stretched right now, and streamlining the hospital reporting system allows NHSN to concentrate its COVID-19 activity on the high-priority area of protecting the vulnerable in nursing homes.

To accomplish this, we have not changed the data ecosystem; we have merely streamlined the data collection mechanism for hospitals on the frontlines.

On the back end, whether collected by the CDC’s system, the third party vendor, or the states, the data ends up aggregated in the HHS Protect platform, where the CDC team and other federal response teams still have access to this information for their use in the response. Additionally, state and local public health departments also have access to this information in HHS Protect which allows them to access and use the same information that the federal response teams are using.

No one is taking access or data away from CDC.

I want to emphasize that having the fastest possible access to this data, as well as easy ways to analyze it, has very real benefits to our public health response. When we need to collect insights about emerging symptoms, for instance, which we are constantly learning more about, we can do that incredibly rapidly through TeleTracking.

This has no effect on CDC’s ability to use this data and continue churning out the daily data, the MMWRs, and the guidance we publish. In fact, the new infrastructure we have now actually provides our CDC team with easier access to a much broader variety of data sets than they would have without it.

Approximately 1,000 CDC experts have, and continue to have access to the raw data collected in HHS Protect—in addition to thousands of other public health professionals across HHS.

Our experts at the CDC are essential to our response, and that is why they have always had and continue to have access to all of the data we are collecting. That access is the same today as it was yesterday.

You're a supposed Libertarian, so I have zero clue why you'd be in favor of the centralization of the data here that the public won't have access to?

In that official "Ministry of Truth" release, I see nothing about the data remaining open to the public. And again, the CDC's dashboard says:

The following downloadable file contains national and state estimates from the NHSN COVID-19 Module. This file will not be updated after July 14, 2020 and includes data from April 1 to July 14.

In April, HHS leaders, with input from CDC, created a new system, called HHS Protect, that allows us to combine data through systems like NHSN, as well as other public and private sources. The data reported from hospitals that went into HHS Protect either came through the NHSN, directly to HHS Protect from the states, or through a system called TeleTracking.

What we have now asked is that, going forward, states provide data from hospitals directly through the TeleTracking system or directly to the HHS Protect system.

First, this reduces the reporting burden—it reduces confusion and duplication of reporting. Streamlining reporting enables us to distribute scarce resources using the best possible data.

TeleTracking also provides rapid ways to update the type of data we are collecting—such as adding, for instance, input fields on what kind of treatments are being used. In order to meet this need for flexible data gathering, CDC agreed that we needed to remove NHSN from the collection process, in order to streamline reporting.

But there's no transparent body acting as an intermediary anymore, posting data public we all have access to. Only those with "clearance" have access to the data now, including a private firm. Overlay the amount of testing per capita and then do deaths per capita.

Florida won't become the UK. We know that. Places like NY, UK, and dense population centers with mass transit and people packed into apartment buildings are where the disease thrives. But RandomGuy's point was correct. Florida was inevitable. They'll probably wind up around 500ish deaths per million after this wave, which places them in Italy territory.

Riddled With Lies': Analysis Finds Fox News Covid-19 Coverage Featured Misinformation 253 Times in Just Five Days

The network, said an MMFA researcher,

"downplays the threat of the virus,

dismisses the recommendations of public health officials, and

misrepresents the scientific consensus on the disease."

from July 6 through 10, according to a national media watchdog group that documented at least

253 instances of the network's coverage

undermining science,

politicizing the pandemic,

emphasizing economic issues, and

promoting other lies or

problematic positions in those five days alone.

Georgia governor sues to stop Atlanta mask mandate

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp sued Thursday to stop Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms from mandating masks be worn in the city to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The legal actions comes after prominent Democratic mayors in the state pledged to challenge an executive order by Kemp barring local mask mandates. Bottoms defiantly declared, “I am not afraid of the city being sued.”

Kemp made that a reality, writing on Twitter that his lawsuit "is on behalf of the Atlanta business owners and their hardworking employees who are struggling to survive during these difficult times."

"We will fight to stop these reckless actions and put people over pandemic politics," Kemp wrote.

On Wednesday, Kemp banned localities from ordering people to wear masks in public to stop the spread of coronavirus. Mayors across the state hit back at Kemp and accused him of playing politics during a pandemic.

A senior living center my company manages just got all of its residents and employees tested and over half came back positive, almost all of which are asymptomatic, the others with minor symptoms they’ll recover from, and these are people in their mid to late 80s. That kind of stuff is what makes me think there’s been a lot more exposure than any of us realize.
For those who care or are interested - 6 of the residents who tested positive are now dead, and 3 more are on hospice. I was hopeful the virus has mutated, but I’m not convinced anymore.

None of the other senior care centers we own have had any COVID, but once COVID gets inside an assisted living facility or nursing home, it spreads like wildfire and there’s only so much that can be done to stop it.

Worth noting also that the facility is now doing weekly testing of all residents and employees, but has yet to get results back for the last two weeks of tests, which is unfuckingbelievable.

Our healthcare system was grossly unprepared for this several months ago and still doesn’t have the necessary resources to address it. This has been a problem for senior care centers across the country, even when they have positive COVID cases and need to be able to promptly get test results back to contact trace, there have been several week wait times for results.

Public health specialists and former health officials acknowledged that the CDC's data reporting infrastructure was limited, and said it needs to be overhauled to meet the demands of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, they expressed concern in interviews with CNBC that the change could lead to less transparent data.

When reached for comment Thursday by CNBC, HHS spokesman Michael Caputo said in a statement that the CDC was directed to make the data available again. In the future, he said, HHS will provide "more powerful insights."

"Yes, HHS is committed to being transparent with the American public about the information it is collecting on the coronavirus," he said. "Therefore, HHS has directed CDC to re-establish the coronavirus dashboards it withdrew from the public on Wednesday."

Brace yourself for the latest COVID-19 predictions.

You're not going to like them

Just two weeks ago, when Dr. Anthony Fauci predicted that

the United States could see 100,000 cases of COVID-19 in a day (https://www.statnews.com/2020/06/30/u-s-could-see-100000-new-covid-19-cases-per-day-fauci-says/), it seemed like a nightmare scenario

Tuesday was the second day the nation logged over 70,000 cases in a day.

It was also the first time the United States recorded over 1,000 deaths from COVID-19 since June 9.

Fauci’s prediction that was disturbing at the start of the month,

looks like it could end up undershooting the real situation as badly as Pence did.

The reasons for that are simple enough:

We have governors who are willing to kill their people to score political points (https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2020/7/16/1961197/-Gov-Brian-Kemp-s-no-mask-order-isn-t-coming-from-ignorance-it-s-an-act-of-deliberate-vengeance),

we have a government determined to hide the truth of what’s happening (https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2020/7/16/1961226/-Hospitals-are-still-sending-in-data-on-COVID-19-but-it-s-no-longer-visible-outside-the-White-House), and

we have people who are intentionally destroying their communities (https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/utah-meeting-masks-cancelled-when-residents-without-masks-pack-room-n1234017) to own … whoever is left to care.

And the result is that instead of 100,000 cases a day,

the United States could be facing a million cases a day.

Herd immunity, here we come … with half a million dead in tow.

no other nation has so thoroughly discarded both science and reason in

a process of self-destruction that seems purposeful in its malevolence.

this is “a weaponized virus.” It is.

Americans have weaponized it to kill other Americans.

There remains some hope, because not every governor is Ron DeSantis (Florida) or Brian Kemp (Georgia).

Even the most ardent Republican politicians are going to have a hard time throwing their citizens into mass graves to please a man who will be out of office in January.

there are now almost 2 million confirmed active cases of COVID-19 in the United States.

That number is probably something closer to 20 million,

They’re already too late to keep the total number of dead from reaching something between 300,000 and 400,000.

The always optimistic IHME model is now projecting 224,000 by November 1 (https://covid19.healthdata.org/united-states-of-america). That’s just … where we are.

Daily Beast (https://www.thedailybeast.com/america-is-on-track-for-a-million-coronavirus-cases-a-day-and-at-least-800000-deaths-by-the-end-of-2020) is currently projecting that before the end of the year, half of all Americans could have been infected by COVID-19 and 800,000 could die.

Those are the kinds of numbers that wouldn’t just overrun the healthcare system,

they would overrun a lot of systems.

If 800,000 die from COVID-19, they won’t die alone.
