I think I have had it but the hospital said I had diverticulitis. I was hospitalized for four days in Feb. 5 days after flying on a plane and four days straight visiting my mum who was in the hospital from, an infection, complications to kidney stone removal.

It kicked my ass but did not attack my lungs. It hit me in my digestive system and kicked my ass. High fever, chills, shaking uncontrollably. The nurses who cared for me are saints cause it was not pretty.

I am suspicious of the diagnosis of diverticulitis. I have read that my symptoms are somewhat common for the corona and recall Kathy Griffin complained of the same symptoms.

Google “corona abdominal symptoms”. This is what I had. I am back home and my hometown PCP has no time for my theories so he will not test me.

This was back in mid Feb and I am still goofed up. I think I got it on the plane or while visiting my sick mum in the hospital.

Yeah same with me, I posted about it earlier in this thread. Abdominal pain, chills, just low grade fever off and on for me, ended up passing out and going to ER by the end of week 2. Wife thought I had diverticulitus since the pain was mostly on the left side but abdominal CT just showed some colitis. Took another 10 days to feel better. Lost 16 lbs.

I got it from my wife who was basically asymptomatic, although she was having some weird sort of peripheral neuropathy in her hands at the same time I was ill. She got it from a patient who developed a moderate cold after returning from her vacation on the Diamond Princess. That person was de-boarding as the group that got quaratined was boarding. Or in hers words she was getting off "when all those Chinese people were gettin on the ship".

Can't prove it since testing was denied by CDC back then but the timing all fits. I referenced that somewhat cryptically back on post #1314.

That's why I know it's been around San Antonio since January. As weebo also has said.

If I'm right it bodes well for higher temps slowing virus transmission since we haven't exploded with cases. It's been very warm for us this year.

Also if I'm right, having Covid-19 was great for me. Been jogging & working out since losing that weight. Wife says I'm svelte :lol

I wish I could get the antibody test to see if I really had it or not.
I am going to bitch at my doctor some more to see if he will relent and test me.
I think the tests are still rolling out and/or are limited and more than likely I will not rate being important enough to get a test-at least soon

I don't think the antibody tests are available yet. At least through physicians. When they are my wife will get herself tested and I'll know for sure.

Are you talking about the Lord Fauci quote? If so you and mono both have terrible reading comprehension.

What about that quote is wrong? Society at large won't be comfortable with packing restaurants, sports arenas, bars, clubs, and the like until a vaccine is available. "Opening up the country" will have to happen gradually, in specific regions, until the trifecta of vaccination, immunity, and proven treatments is introduced. I don't see how anyone can disagree with that? Here's some data I posted earlier.

https://twitter.com/cmyeaton/status/1247143271522095104/photo/1

Covid didn't reach its full epidemic spike until late-March/early-April. And we can see that the spikes in all those regions are larger (Washington aside) than all flu epidemic spikes of the past decade. And that is WITH social distancing and stay-at-home measures implemented. This is going to be a problem for the next year. We'll have to deal with the flu and a 10-20 percent worse flu at the same time over "flu season."

Yeah, some regions will able to function with a degree of normalcy throughout this period, but big cities will likely have to be on some kind of open/lockdown dynamic as the situation permits moving forward (like Singapore. They'll open up, but when they see even a small spike in cases, they lockdown again).

I don’t disagree with anything I quoted of Fauci. He’s saying we night get back to a real degree of normalcy before said vaccine is confirmed.

“I don't think that you're going to have to say that the country can not get back to a real degree of normalcy until you absolutely have a safe and effective vaccine."

Like all surgical masks they are intended to keep one from spreading via droplets not to protect from getting.

Pretty sure he's not referring to actual firearms but a vaccine.

If he's talking about a vaccine, America can't get back to work for 12-18 months. But yeah, I know he wasn't literally talking about shooting the virus, I just find the obstinance of Wingnut twitter darkly humorous, as if it we're going to conquer this virus with red-blooded Murrican guts. For the health care and essential workers, sure. But for the rest of us, we do need to sit on our asses like pussies (and I do realize we can contribute in other ways, i.e. making PPE, donations, supporting small businesses the best we can by ordering takeout and such).

I lost 10 pounds in 4 days and was basically bedridden the first three. Temp was mostly in the 100 to 101 range. And all of a sudden felt ok and hadn't run a temperature since. Day 1 and Day 3 were really nasty though: vomiting on Day 1, lots of abdominal pain that would come and go (especially when the aceitomenophin I was taking was nearing the 6 hour mark since last dose), couldn't sit up for more than a minute on 1 & 3, cold sweats on 1 & 3, Day 1 I couldn't even sit or stand without feeling like I was about to fall over on my face. Couldn't get tested though without the cough and without being 65+.

Germany isn't too far behind us, 22 deaths per million vs. 33 deaths per million. Many Western European countries were just as complacent as we were.

And I think that's the key difference between the Asian countries and the West. Complacency and a kind of arrogance that believes nothing bad will ever happen. Those "bad things" always happen "over there." And the frustrating thing is, we should've been more than prepared. The CDC was the gold standard that taught many of those countries how to control outbreaks (testing, contact tracing, etc). Massively disappointed in just about everything with the US right now. And as much as I loathe Trump, many Dem leaders also dropped the ball. Even Fauci said there was no risk on Jan. 21st. Too many US politicians and experts (and even experts in Western Europe who gambled with the herd immunity strategy) just kept waving it off until the tide finally hit.

Just a mass fuckup at every level.

Yep. Testing is key, and we bungled that massively. A side effect of not taking this thing seriously and hyping up the stock market instead. But I'll also defend our collective response aside from the dipshit in chief. Many governors locked down when the virus was still a small spark in their state. Many Americans are abiding by social distancing and health care workers are putting forth Herculean efforts on the front lines.

Summer will say a lot about how this administration will handle things. If Trump starts declaring victory and "rallying" about Summer economic recoveries and pumping himself up, we're fucked. Summer should be an all out mobilization to prepare for the Fall/Winter wave.

thats a promising sign.

the death figures lag behind the "new case" figures, obviously, so it's not that surprising we'd see deaths still go up as new cases decrease. it still paints a hopeful picture that in ~7-10 days or so we'll see the death figures follow suit and begin to decrease. that more or less aligns with the projections of deaths peaking on or about april 15

It looks like NY has changed their reporting. They used to update a couple times a day, now it looks like they accumulate some 24 hour period and dump it at the time Cuomo does his daily briefing. So the death reporting is definitely lagging. All deaths after he takes the podium today will be in tomorrow's count

That's not the way doctors do it, but I guess you wouldn't know.

In cases where a definite diagnosis of COVID–19 cannot be made, but it is suspected or likely (e.g., the circumstances are compelling within a reasonable degree of certainty), it is acceptable to report COVID–19 on a death certificate as “probable” or “presumed.” In these instances, certifiers should use their best clinical judgement in determining if a COVID–19 infection was likely. However, please note that testing for COVID–19 should be conducted whenever possible.

Official counts Understate The U.S. Coronavirus toll.

WASHINGTON — A coroner in Indiana wanted to know if the coronavirus had killed a man in early March, but said that her health department denied a test. Paramedics in New York City say that many patients who died at home were never tested for the coronavirus, even if they showed telltale signs of infection.

In Virginia, a funeral director prepared the remains of three people after health workers cautioned her that they each had tested positive for the coronavirus. But only one of the three had the virus noted on the death certificate.

Across the United States, even as coronavirus deaths are being recorded in terrifying numbers — many hundreds each day — the true death toll is likely much higher.

It's happening in NY and NYC for sure. Mark Levine, Chair of the NYC Council Health Committee confirmed it yesterday:

"An estimated additional 180 - 195 deaths per day occurring at home in New York City due to COVID-19 are not being counted in the official figures. "Early on in this crisis we were able to swab people who died at home, and thus got a coronavirus reading. But those days are long gone. We simply don't have the testing capacity for the large numbers dying at home. Now only those few who had a test confirmation *before* dying are marked as victims of coronavirus on their death certificate. This almost certainly means we are undercounting the total number of victims of this pandemic,'".

Navarro memos warning of mass coronavirus death circulated in January
In late January, President Trump's economic adviser Peter Navarro warned his White House colleagues the novel coronavirus could take more than half a million American lives and cost close to $6 trillion, according to memos obtained by Axios.

The state of play: By late February, Navarro was even more alarmed, and he warned his colleagues, in another memo, that up to 2 million Americans could die of the virus.

Navarro's grim estimates are set out in two memos — one dated Jan. 29 and addressed to the National Security Council, the other dated Feb. 23 and addressed to the president. The NSC circulated both memos around the White House and multiple agencies.
In the first memo, which the New York Times was first to report on, Navarro makes his case for "an immediate travel ban on China."
The second lays the groundwork for supplemental requests from Congress, with the warning: "This is NOT a time for penny-pinching or horse trading on the Hill."

Trump was told... and kept saying it was all under control, and no one had anything to worry about. His administration didn't ramp up testing when the need was obvious, and they didn't start ramping up PPE pipeline until medical workers started having to use garbage bags as PPE. Both of which were entirely foreseeable needs, PER THE BUSH AND OBAMA PANDEMIC PLAN THEY IGNORED.

Of course but hater makes a career out of it and then he intentionally posts false and misleading tweets and videos to support asinine statements. I mean it's a funny shtick for a little while but after a while you just have to realize the person is not joking, they're just fucking stupid.

Come on Trump was following the trusted advice of Sean Hannity, Fox and Friends and Rush Limbaugh. Between that and golf what makes you had time to listen to anybody else?

Trump is trying to turn his $99 into $129.99...evil orange man!

I'm not implying Trump has a huge interest, I'm just asking: why does orange billionaire need low return mutual funds?

Read the article. The holdings are family trusts. The largest amount is in an S&P index fund and a much smaller amount international funds. That's basically the Dave Ramsey formula. Don't know why people still do recommend some amount to international funds, returns have not been very good since great recession.

I doubt it, else they wouldn't be taking a fit like this...with eventual tidies down the line.

No, in the panic & confusion they have found their sweet spot. "Can't prove it either way. We're in. Charge!!!"
Not the way, they want to know as much about this disease as they possibly can because if they tamp it down there’s a good chance it’ll be coming back in Oct. Medical people are smarter apparently than politicians and for sure conspirationalists and will do what needs to be done.
