What does it say about the vaccine?
Well, how many were hospitalized and died? We're missing that info.
The vaccine won't completely prevent infection, but it will drastically reduce how long you're infected, your odds of landing in the hospital or dying.

If everyone gets the virus, the vaccine had a 100% breakthrough with that group. There's nothing to say they would have died either way.
The vaccine trains your body to attack the infection effectively when the virus is already in your body. That implies it won't prevent infection, it will help you defend against it. Most vaccines work that way.
The fact they do help you eliminate it quicker is what reduces R0 from > 1 to, eventually and hopefully, < 1.

"However, data show fully vaccinated persons are less likely than unvaccinated persons to acquire SARS-CoV-2, and infections with the Delta variant in fully vaccinated persons are associated with less severe clinical outcomes. Infections with the Delta variant in vaccinated persons potentially have reduced transmissibility than infections in unvaccinated persons, although additional studies are needed." -CDC
"Less likely" must mean there are fewer instances where vaccinated people tested positive after exposure vs unvaccinated people. Are you saying that these vaccinated people were just as "infected" but tested negative?
If so, does the vaccine create more asymptomatic carriers?

We know there's an asymptomatic incubation period for the virus that takes almost a week. The viral load during that period goes from very low to very high.
I don't know for sure, but I suspect that in the case of vaccinated people your immune system knows (thanks to the vaccine) that this is a bad actor and fights it right away, whereas the immune system on unvaccinated people might not kick in until the viral load is high.
I also don't know how precise PCR tests and the like are in detecting small viral loads. When we actually end up detecting an infection (which officially means you 'acquired' COVID), might not be when the infection actually started.
As far as the vaccine, at least in the Pfizer and Moderna cases, there's no actual virus in them, so you couldn't detect the virus due to vaccination.

Didn't make that claim. What I said is science has both much larger and more granular information about virus transmissions in general and covid in particular, and unlike you, I won't pretend to speak for the entire body of work in that area.
I don't get how "science" became an entity instead of a field and method of learning.
It's a method of research as well, which produces copious amount of information. When somebody says "science says", they're referring to that information, not science as a person or entity.

The CDC says the same or otherwise depending on what they mean by 'acquire', which is not totally clear to me, thus why I singled it out.
Does 'acquire' mean when the virus entered the body (are tests that accurate to detect that?) or when your average test came back positive?
These are the kind of small details that make a big difference in statements like that.

FAQ: COVID-19 Data and Surveillance
Frequently Asked Questions
Updated July 23, 2021
What is a COVID-19 case, including a “probable case”? How is reporting of probable cases handled by jurisdictions?
A COVID-19 case is an individual who has been determined to have COVID-19 using a set of criteria known as a case definition. Cases can be classified as suspect, probable, or confirmed. CDC counts include probable and confirmed cases and deaths. Suspect cases and deaths are excluded.
The case classifications for COVID-19 are described in an updated interim COVID-19 position statement and case definition issued by the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists. A probable case or death is defined as any one of the following:
-Meets clinical criteria AND epidemiologic linkage with no confirmatory laboratory testing performed for SARS-CoV-2
-Meets presumptive laboratory evidence
-Meets vital records criteria with no confirmatory laboratory evidence for SARS-CoV-2
Any cases and deaths classified as probable are included in CDC case counts. The same applies to any cases and deaths classified as confirmed.
Pretty sure asymptomatic positive cases meet none of those criteria.

The U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has stopped reporting mild and asymptomatic COVID-19 "breakthrough" cases amongst vaccinated people, leading many to ask why.
On May 1, the CDC announced it would transition "from monitoring all reported vaccine breakthrough cases to focus on identifying and investigating only hospitalized or fatal cases due to any cause."
"This shift will help maximize the quality of the data collected on cases of greatest clinical and public health importance," the CDC wrote.
Put another way, the CDC decided to focus on only the most severe cases. This focus, they imply, will provide health researchers and officials with important information about the populations hit hardest by the ongoing pandemic.
On July 27, CDC director Rochelle Walensky defended her agency against criticism that it was no longer providing enough public information about breakthrough infections. She said the CDC would continually release data from "cohort studies" on "tens of the thousands" of people who have been infected after being vaccinated.

The only way the CDC can know someone has acquired the virus is if that person tests positive. If you're saying people have the virus but aren't testing positive, I'd have to ask how you have that information.
There are some studies and cases about it, some of them linked in this article, for example:
https://khn.org/news/article/they-tested-negative-for-covid-still-they-have-long-covid-symptoms/
But, I mean, besides the quality of tests differing due to manufacturing, etc, it would be good to know how precise even the best PCR test is, the best Antibody test is, etc.
Obviously, by the time you tested positive, the virus is already in your body, but the question is how long has it been there? Hours, days? And how much of the virus do you really need to have in order to trigger a positive result?
I don't have answers to these questions, and frankly I haven't found much info out there either. I could definitely be wrong and the tests might be able to detect even very minuscule amounts of the virus. I just haven't seen a definitive answer to that.

Singapore Will Stop Covering the Medical Bills of Unvaccinated COVID-19 Patients
"Singapore's government has been covering the medical bills of COVID-19 patients throughout the pandemic," reports NPR. "But it says unvaccinated people will soon be on their own (https://www.npr.org/sections/coronavirus-live-updates/2021/11/09/1053889069/singapore-medical-bills-covid-19-patients-unvaccinated-by-choice)." Those who are "unvaccinated by choice" will have to start paying for their own COVID-19 treatment starting December 8, the Ministry of Health announced on Monday, citing the strain they are putting on the nation's health care system.
"Currently, unvaccinated persons make up a sizeable majority of those who require intensive inpatient care, and disproportionately contribute to the strain on our healthcare resources," it said in a statement (https://www.moh.gov.sg/news-highlights/details/calibrated-adjustments-in-stabilisation-phase_8Nov2021)...
"Our hospitals really much prefer not to have to bill these patients at all, but we have to send this important signal, to urge everyone to get vaccinated if you are eligible," Health Minister Ong Ye Kung said on Monday.
Singapore has one of the highest vaccination rates in the world. As of Sunday, 85% of its population was fully vaccinated, and 18% had received booster shots, according to health ministry data (https://www.moh.gov.sg/news-highlights/details/update-on-local-covid-19-situation-(8-nov-2021)).

Not sure why a deadlier variant would become the dominant strain since that would give it less chance to replicate than other strains. SARS-Cov-2's goal isn't to kill us, it's to replicate as much as possible. Now more contagious variants, sure, we'll see those pop up over and over.

But your premise that this is over when everyone gets it is flawed. A person can get Covid again. And if that person happ3ns to be very old or sick they have a small chance of getting very sick or dying.
Just like the regular flu kills the very old/sick on a yearly basis.

We have at least another year before the pandemic is over. That is, it completes it's first pass through the population.
Then it will probably develop some type of seasonality like the other endemic respiratory viruses. But yes, ultimately everyone gets infected repeatedly.

Death and hospitalization -- though these have been terrible in the US due to our utter failure to control transmission and the gross caseload-- may not be the most significant outcomes of COVID-19. The disruption of work, leisure and society by the sequalae of infection for months and years might put the most severe outcomes in the shade in terms of cost and social impact.

COVID is wrecking healthcare in the US
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that the health-care sector has lost nearly half a million workers (https://www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/empsit.pdf) since February 2020. Morning Consult, a survey research company, says that 18 percent of health-care workers (https://morningconsult.com/2021/10/04/health-care-workers-series-part-2-workforce/) have quit since the pandemic began, while 12 percent have been laid off.
Morning Consult, in the same survey, found that 31 percent of the remaining health-care workers have considered leaving their employer, while the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses found that 66 percent of acute and critical-care nurses (https://www.aacn.org/newsroom/hear-us-out-campaign-reports-nurses-covid-19-reality) have thought about quitting nursing entirely. “We’ve never seen numbers like that before,” Bettencourt told me. Normally, she said, only 20 percent would even consider leaving their institution, let alone the entire profession. https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2021/11/the-mass-exodus-of-americas-health-care-workers/620713/

And most people have an immune system that take care of this along with cancer cells that are constantly made in our bodies and a whole hell of a lot of other microbes which are taken care of by working immune systems. We do this sort of thing all of our lives with many nasty things. If you dont constantly have some sort of Ab's running through your lymph system and blood there is something wrong with you. Get well soon bro
And no this is not surprising at all for us few that been paying attention
It is actually common to get moderate symptoms even vaxed and its the waning immunity which after 3 or 4 months a vaxed older/sick person is almost as vulnerable as if they were unvaxed.
Look at europe now which has great vaccination rates. Look at Gibraltar. Virtually 100% vaccination and locking down.
Meanwhile Moderna and Pfizer makers making 65k every single minute from their "vaccines" and being given the keys to the planet.

My wife is in the hospital fighting covid and pneumonia and the attendant lung damage. She's not doing very well. I know the vaccine is supposed to lessen the severity so we'll see but it's certainly hadn't helped my wife any. I'm sure she's some kind of outlier but it's hard being married to an outlier who's laying in the hospital bed with tubes all in her.
hope you both get better, hang in there. Lots of people vaxxed or not get it, between the different vaccines and strains, public policies and enforcement, humans being social, its hard to say where the fault lies. Also there is strong indication that antigen response decreases over time hence booster shots, how many months ago was your second dose?

Get well soon bro
And no this is not surprising at all for us few that been paying attention
It is actually common to get moderate symptoms even vaxed and its the waning immunity which after 3 or 4 months a vaxed older/sick person is almost as vulnerable as if they were unvaxed.
Look at europe now which has great vaccination rates. Look at Gibraltar. Virtually 100% vaccination and locking down.
Meanwhile Moderna and Pfizer makers making 65k every single minute from their "vaccines" and being given the keys to the planet.
since i last mentioned it Chile (not 100% but a high vax rate) has gone from 1% positivity to 3%, but in between we had the national holiday, election season, relaxed curfew and capacity limits, and opened the borders a good bit- I think the vaccines here have held up remarkably well, im approximating the numbers but its about 65% sinovac, 20 pfizer 15 astrazeneca, 3rd booster campaign started a couple months ago, in fact im late for it, but yeah they make you mix vaccines to get a more complete immune response.

The chinese sinovac and uk astazeneca despite initial.concer s seem to hold up pretty well.
Much better than molderna and pffffizer
In Gibraltar for example they have used mostly pfffffizer. Surprise surprise. That magical MRNA tech :lol. Even their idiot CEOs boasted they made the vax in 2 days and it took 1 day to install windows. Wellll... it shows :lol
But also keep in mind South America is in a down wave right now. These things waves are crucial

And I totally get this underlined.
If you live being one of the few it certainly sucks that much more.
And I really would like to ask a question that need not be answered if you dont wish to.
Do you guys think you know how, where you might have gotten it? The situation especially?
The "breakthrough" cases I know about through my parent's friends kind of tell a bit of a trend that seems to agree with some data from the US.
Thanks PG. I was very likely the vector for this as my day-to-day job involves constant travel with multiple face-to-face encounters daily. I'm sure I brought it back home from my work. As to where I picked it up, I have no idea.

Get the damn booster
Although the CDC has been tracking the rate of hospitalizations among fully vaccinated people, its website (https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#covidnet-hospitalizations-vaccination) shows data only through Aug. 28. According to the latest data from the CDC, an unvaccinated person is at 11 times greater risk of dying from Covid (https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#rates-by-vaccine-status)than a vaccinated person.
The CDC didn’t respond to a request for new numbers.

Crap.
People have to work. And yes older people as well. Pretty much the same with my parent and his friends. Grandad is on a reduced meet, greet and talk schedule simply because he is retired.
And if you dont mind, a couple of other questions.
Were your face to face meetings indoors and in an individual room? Did the meetings last over 15 minutes?
Sorry for the questions, I just follow some anecdotal trends so I can keep my dad well. He needs to work, its his passion.
I have gathered anecdotal stuff.... too many close contact long period meetings with multiple people during the day in smaller spaces as being especially bad for breakthroughs in older people and my dad does just this so I have suggested a change in the way these meetings take place. And progress has been made but I would like further modifications in my selfish way... so I bug him too much.
Again I perfectly understand if you are tired of questions. You have always struck me as a reasonable person so sorry for the bugging, but I dont much like to use the mail on this site and disturb others in a private way.

I don't doubt the science involved and I'm certainly not an anti-vaxxer but it seems to me we ain't exactly on top of this covid shit.
I get to hear about a lot of breakthrough cases. The vaccines seem to be less effective against severe illness and hospitalization than were advertised but so far every breakthrough case I've heard of has ultimately recovered fully regardless of age and comorbidities. I wish you and your wife a speedy recovery.

Upper Austria, a stronghold of the far-right and vaccine-criticising Freedom Party, has the country's highest infection rate and its lowest vaccination rate. It and neighbouring Salzburg are the hardest-hit of Austria's nine provinces. Both border Germany.
