So that means almost 800 million people do take the "shitty flu vaccine" which saves lives, likely because it's indeed the best option not to die of the flu.

COVID also doesn't kill 98% of the people it infects... that's still 150 million plus people dead. Vaccines reduce that number substantially, which is why they're not going anywhere...

Lot of word salads here that say nothing about too few people take the very inneficient flu vaccines to conclude anything fromn it

They did Hater?
I dont know what the shit you read but you are out of the loop.

Trump and Hillary being so close in the overall EC and popular made it clear to most people someone had to be president and Trump won the EC.
Did anyone attack the capitol? Did anyone claim fake votes (oh yeah, Trump... the 1.5-2 million pop vote thing ) It would even more simple if he just gave up his tax returns that he will be forced to anyway. It would have gone away.
Right?

Again, this is what shows you the US is a democracy. A TV personality and pathological liar appealed to a very large portion of the voting public; so he was and will always be a president/ex president. This kind of thing never happens in your dream country. 24 years of the same man.

lol, this is trolling...

For centuries, protection from polio was passed down through the generations. Mothers who had survived polio infection themselves passed on immunity to their babies in the womb and through breast milk.

There are two stages to the polio infection. In the first mild stage the infection stays in the digestive system and throat and doesn’t reach the central nervous system. Most babies with maternal immunity are able to fight off the disease at this stage with only mild flu-like symptoms. At the same time, exposure to the first stage gives them their own long-term immunity.

But the unforeseen consequence of better hygiene and sanitation at the end of the 1800s was that babies in clean surroundings stopped encountering the infection while they still had maternal immunity.

So they failed to develop their own long-term immunity and were not protected when they encountered the disease later in life. And exposure to polio in late childhood or as an adult, was more likely to develop to the second, more aggressive stage of the disease.

Stopping this virus was never a goal, AFAIK. Keeping it under control was and is, much like the flu is kept under control primarily through vaccination.

That said, stopping 'a' virus via vaccination is not unheard of either. Take Polio, a virus that still exists today, is a great example of how you 'stop' viruses via vaccination. That said, it clearly is a different ballgame when we're talking airborne.

Well first, we have not been controlling influenza with 50% vaccination rates (in a good year) and vaccine efficacy at 50% (in a good year). Eventually we'll get fucked by another influenza strain too.

More importantly to this topic, it's not the flu, it's a 5th endemic HCoV. It's not polio, it's a 5th endemic HCoV. It's not smallpox, it's a 5th endemic HCoV.

You're all so willing to compare apples to oranges or apples to bananas but none of you will compare Granny Smiths to Sweet Delicous.

:lol This is exactly why I'm saying you're trolling.

Polio was already killing lots of people in the 1800s (and before then, it's been tracked all the way back to 1400BC, IIRC), and while back then it wasn't considered 'a big deal', mostly because neither was typhoid or cholera or the plethora of different diseases people used to die off, it was already maiming and killing a ton of people by modern standards.

Back then, a mother having to undergo polio infection might've been wise, because there was nothing else. We're not in the 1800s anymore.

It's true that advances in hygiene diminished the effect of the maternal protection and boosted the efficacy of the disease, culminating in the rise of the disease in the mid-1900s, but that doesn't mean the solution was to go risking mothers lives with a polio infection.

As a matter of fact, Polio is one of the greatest success stories of modern vaccination. It was literally stopped in the West due to a massive vaccination campaign.

BTW, my uncle (RIP) had Polio. He lived a good, long life despite losing mobility on his right leg.

We've been getting mutations and retooling influenza vaccines for literal decades. Off the top of my head, we had at least two major influenza pandemics based on mutations alone, and we also retooled the vaccines to effectively attack them.

Also, the only reason you can make the claim this is different when it comes to vaccines, is that you know for some reason we cannot engineer modified vaccines to tackle mutations.

That claim is not one anybody in the scientific field has made so far, including the companies that developed the vaccines. So, if that's the hill you want to die on, go ahead, but back it up.

The effects of seasonal influenza epidemics in developing countries are not fully known, but research estimates indicate that 99% of deaths in children under 5 years of age with influenza related lower respiratory tract infections are found in developing countries.

Ugh, had to turn my AC on the other day too before the front blew in and made temperatures halfway normal for the season. Wasn't so much that it was hot, just nearly summer level of humid. Probably will have to again Thursday when they're saying we'll be in the high 80s with lots of gulf moisture. Not used to turning on AC after Halloween. Maybe turn on the fan sometimes in a normal November/December but not used to seeing dewpoints in the 70s this late in the year when AC is the only option.

By definition a 2nd dose is a booster :lmao

Booster” basically refers to an extra dose of a vaccine after the original (or primary) dose is administered. These boosters can be weeks, months or years later, according to Sandy Salverson, PharmD, vice president of Pharmacy Operations at OSF HealthCare.

“Most adults have a memory of having to get a booster for a childhood disease, such as measles, whooping cough or meningitis. Or for a disease like tetanus, where booster shots are recommended every 10 years as the original immunity wanes,” Sandy said.

Oh well.Transmissibility is a bigger concern than severity, tbh. Even with a milder disease progression, the absolute number of people hospitalized could swamp hospitals, leading to shortages of acute care for everybody. We've already seen this with Delta in at least three US states that have issued emergency standards of care -- health care rationing.

New cases in the U.S. climbed from an average of nearly 95,000 a day on Nov. 22 to almost 119,000 a day this week, and hospitalizations are up 25% from a month ago. The increases are due almost entirely to the delta variant (https://apnews.com/article/coronavirus-pandemic-science-health-southern-africa-pandemics-2a445501cff8d0354fabcf493418365e), though the omicron mutation (https://apnews.com/article/coronavirus-pandemic-science-business-health-coronavirus-vaccine-46a0cedcefcc938ba84ea2868bf69db1) has been detected in about 20 states and is sure to spread even more.

Deaths are running close to 1,600 a day on average, back up to where they were in October.

Kalamazoo's health care system is in crisis because of the lingering COVID-19 pandemic. Area medical and health officials held a news conference Tuesday, December 7, urging people to get vaccinated
.
They say the latest surge has stressed capacity and staff to the breaking point. Dr. Scott Gibson is the director of Bronson Healthcare's emergency room. He says all patients face treatment delays, transfers, and a greater risk of negative outcomes.

"This pandemic is now taking down our ability to provide standards of care that we've accepted over the past ten to 20 years," Gibson says. "And you tell that all of us got a little emotional up there. A few of us had some hitches in our voice. It wasn't just that people are dying; it was that our health care system's stability is threatened."

Gibson says burnout, risks of infection, and a lack of community support have decimated the hospital's staff.

Over the past week, three children have died following their vaccination with the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine in Bac Giang, Hanoi and Binh Phuoc. The cause of death has been determined as "overreaction to the vaccine."
Last week, four workers in Thanh Hoa's Kim Viet Shoe factory died following their Vero Cell Covid-19 vaccination, also due to "overreaction."

Deep dive on the CDC COVID test debacle in early 2020

The US Department of Health and Human Services released a three-page summary (https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/6953861-6-19-20-Summary-of-the-Findings-of-the-Immediate.html) of the investigation the same month it was completed. The full investigation documents include about 50 pages of interviews conducted by two lawyers with the HHS Office of the General Counsel, stamped “Attorney-Client Privileged,” which the health agency’s public records office sent to BuzzFeed News. An HHS official later claimed the documents were “inadvertently released” and asked BuzzFeed News to delete them, calling five minutes after an agency spokesperson turned down a request to comment on the interviews.

This investigation, based on the documents and interviews with health officials knowledgeable about the test’s development, reveals:

Government dysfunction. Congress, CDC leadership, and past presidential administrations have neglected labs at the world’s most highly regarded public health agency for decades. The small, underfunded Respiratory Virus Diagnostic (RVD) Lab was overburdened as COVID-19 blazed across the country.

Questionable blame. The initial investigation summary criticized the RVD lab for the catastrophic failure of the nation’s first COVID test. But further documents and interviews call its conclusions into question, indicating a larger lab may have been the actual culprit — something HHS investigators failed to find.

Cut corners. In the CDC’s rush to develop a lab test, officials chose to assemble two of its critical parts in the same facility, leading to cross-contamination that compromised the kits sent to state and city health agencies nationwide. This type of contamination happened before, during the 2012 MERS outbreak.

Overconfidence. The CDC did not initially rely on tests already in use in other countries, because officials thought they could build a better one. Agency leaders did not coordinate with outside manufacturers for support, and they never performed any validations of previously developed tests that could have been used as backup.

Systemic failures. The documents also reveal something even more damning: that the failures extended far beyond any one lab. The test’s problems, the documents show, are a symptom of much bigger mistakes — still unexamined — starting with the Trump administration's lack of a pandemic plan, lack of leadership and coordination at federal public health agencies, and widespread medical misjudgment in the early days of the pandemic that left the CDC holding the bag for everyone else’s failures.

In case all the salty MAGAtards missed the obvious:

Covid-19 patients at this hospital are dying 'at a rate we've never seen die before' -- and it's taking a toll on health care workers

Nurse Katie Sefton never thought Covid-19 could get this bad -- and certainly not this late in the pandemic.

"I was really hoping that we'd (all) get vaccinated and things would be back to normal," said Sefton, an assistant manager at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan.
But this week Michigan had more patients hospitalized for Covid-19 than ever before. Covid-19 hospitalizations jumped 88% in the past month, according to the Michigan Health & Hospital Association.
"We have more patients than we've ever had at any point, and we're seeing more people die at a rate we've never seen die before," said Jim Dover, president and CEO of Sparrow Health System.

"Since January, we've had about 289 deaths; 75% are unvaccinated people," Dover said. "And the very few (vaccinated people) who passed away all were more than 6 months out from their shot. So we've not had a single person who has had a booster shot die from Covid."

Omicron is dodging the immune system—but boosters show promising signs

Initial data on the new variant have experts worried about its ability to spread rapidly.

But vaccine boosters still seem to be effective, as do some monoclonal antibody therapies.

it seems to evade existing immunity more easily than previous variants.

But whether it causes more severe illness is still up for debate.

Despite multiple travel bans, the Omicron (https://www.who.int/news/item/26-11-2021-classification-of-omicron-(b.1.1.529)-sars-cov-2-variant-of-concern) variant has already spread to 57 countries (https://outbreak.info/situation-reports?pango=B.1.1.529&loc=ZAF&loc=GBR&loc=USA&selected=Worldwide&overlay=false)and has now been detected (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/variants/omicron-variant.html) in 21 U.S. states (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/variants/omicron-variant.html).

At least for now, though, Delta remains the most prevalent variant in the world and still causes most COVID-19 deaths globally.

"....While Bob was never against receiving a COVID-19 vaccine, he chose to take a wait-and-see approach when they first became available. As time passed, he never took the time to get it, a decision he now regrets.

“Going through this, I would definitely go back and get it. I’m just one of those people that thinks, ‘I’m fine. I went a year and haven’t caught the virus, so I’ll be OK’,” he observes. “But looking back, I would take the shot many times over if I had the choice (again). I was on the edge of death.”....

Then two would be even better. You want to do everything possible even if it means not really offering more protection. You know, like getting vaccinated when you have just as much natural immunity, because everyone should do everything within reason you know... so 2 masks or 3 even. Might go to 4. What's it going to hurt?

Science researchers (reportedly) pressured to suppress results embarrassing to DeSantis

A formal investigation has been launched by the University of Florida after an internal report detailed a culture of fear among faculty members claiming political influence on campus as well as instances of pressure to destroy and delay publication of Covid-19 (https://www.cnn.com/interactive/2020/health/coronavirus-us-maps-and-cases/) research data.

Vice President of UF Research David Norton announced the investigation in an email to faculty and staff Friday morning, according to the university. The email indicates the results of the investigation will be made public upon completion, but did not give a timeline.

"UF Research became aware of possible violations of the UF Policy on Research Integrity," Norton wrote in an email, saying the possible violation relates "to the reported destruction of COVID-19 research data at UF."

Asked if the university was aware of actual destruction of data, the school said the investigation would be looking into that.

"making children wear masks is like sending them to the penalty box"

According to a survey recently published in Pediatrics (https://pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/early/2021/10/06/peds.2021-053760) —which relied on census data, as well as on publicly available figures on national fertility rates (https://time.com/6046065/pandemic-birth-rate/), deaths directly attributable to COVID-19 and excess deaths (https://time.com/5857088/covid-19-death-toll/) over the course of the pandemic compared to a similar period before the pandemic—the number of children in the U.S. who have lost at least one parent to COVID-19 (https://time.com/6104829/us-covid-orphans/) now exceeds 120,000. The number who have lost a caregiving grandparent is greater than 22,000. And those figures take into consideration only the period from April 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021—missing the most recent summer surge (https://time.com/6096892/fourth-covid-19-wave-us/) entirely.https://time.com/6111902/covid-orphans-coping/

US Supreme Court Refuses to Intervene Against NY Vaccine Mandate

In the 6-3 decision, only Justices Neil Gorsuch, Clarence Thomas, and Samuel Alito dissented.

The court acted on emergency appeals filed by doctors, nurses and other medical workers who say they are being forced to choose between their jobs and religious beliefs.

As is typical in such appeals, the court did not explain its order, although it has similarly refused to get in the way of vaccine mandates elsewhere.

COVID isn't something that only happens to other people, like you guys pretend all the time. That's the point of sharing it here.
Exactly. My wife and I, both vaccinated, contracted it over a month ago. I'm over it and still feel like hell, she's still in the hospital on oxygen stll trying to regain functional oxygen levels. She ain't there yet.
Winehole is correct in his assessment and approach. You do not want to fuck with this virus.

"Lab experiments showed that, unfortunately, antibodies produced in people who are vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine were

less effective in preventing the spread of Omicron than other variants.

On the plus side, the vaccine still seemed to show some protection against severe illness from Covid-19 (https://nl.nytimes.com/f/newsletter/RnyONEAfOuEG1ock4tv80Q~~/AAAAAQA~/RgRjmlSlP0TsaHR0cHM6Ly93d3cubnl0aW1lcy5jb20vMjAyMS 8xMi8wNy9oZWFsdGgvb21pY3Jvbi12YXJpYW50LXBmaXplci12 YWNjaW5lLmh0bWw_Y2FtcGFpZ25faWQ9MTU0JmVtYz1lZGl0X2 NiXzIwMjExMjEzJmluc3RhbmNlX2lkPTQ3NzE2Jm5sPWNvcm9u YXZpcnVzLWJyaWVmaW5nJnJlZ2lfaWQ9ODA4MjE3OTcmc2VnbW VudF9pZD03Njg4OCZ0ZT0xJnVzZXJfaWQ9OTkyZDYwODIxNGI1 MDUwMDNhYTA0YmYxMGE1OTUwMzFXA255dEIKYbGlz7dhBiLOLF ITZGFybm9jbmVsQGdtYWlsLmNvbVgEAAAAAA~~).

Hospitalizations have brought in a little bit of hopeful data, in that they have not kept up with infections.

In fact, Dr. Michelle Groome, an epidemiologist at the National Institute of Communicable Diseases, said that she was seeing what she called a “disconnect” in the two curves.

So the infection curve is continuing to go up, and the hospital admissions curve is not increasing at the same speed.

But again, the caveat is that it’s still very early in the fourth wave."

S. Korea marks deadliest day of pandemic as hospital buckle

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korea on Tuesday marked its deadliest day of the pandemic as an unrelenting, delta-driven spread stretched thin hospitals and left people dying while waiting for beds. Health experts warn that the country's medical system is quickly approaching its limits and that fatalities could worsen if the government continues to be slow and hesitant in tightening social distancing.
