While expecting them to stay alive and provide for their families. Which enables you to go out and buy your tools, trucks, guns and boats. And enables your president to run his many resorts.

Perhaps the "Trumper" doesn't agree with the lock down strategy. Perhaps they think there was an overreach in said strategy. Perhaps they disagree with the timing of the implementation of said strategy Perhaps the "Trumper" doesn't like that countless terrible decisions have made this situation worse and now they are forced suffer the consequences.
I suppose this argument works for a small segment of conservatives but overall conservatives consume a lot more information from opposing positions than leftists. That being said I don't know if they perceive this as a "liberal thing". I don't know their motivations at all but I'm sure there are many.

Gilead stock surges 15% after report says coronavirus drug trial shows encouraging early results
PUBLISHED THU, APR 16 20205:10 PM EDTUPDATED MOMENTS AGO
Berkeley
Gilead Sciences shares surged by more than 15% in after-hours trading Thursday after details leaked of a closely watched clinical trial of the company’s antiviral drug Remdesivir appeared to show promising results in treating Covid-19.
The University of Chicago’s phase 3 drug trial found that most of its patients had “rapid recoveries in fever and respiratory symptoms” and were discharged in less than a week, health-care publication STAT News reported.
“The best news is that most of our patients have already been discharged, which is great. We’ve only had two patients perish,” University of Chicago infectious disease specialist Kathleen Mullane said, according to STAT News, which obtained a video of her remarks.
Gilead didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
The University of Chicago Medicine recruited 125 patients with the virus into Gilead’s two late-stage clinical trials, 113 of whom were severely ill. Gilead intends to enroll 4,000 people in its trials.
There are no proven therapies to treat Covid-19, which has infected more than 2.1 million worldwide and killed at least 142,148 as of Thursday night, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
President Donald Trump has touted Remdesivir and malaria drug hydroxychloroquine as “very exciting,” even though the drugs haven’t yet been proven as effective treatments against the coronavirus.

we are 30K+ now (under counted by 50%, search "TPM excess deaths"), very probably not yet reached national peak, with plenty of red/slave states not ramped up, now with 90+ days to go? sounds way off

800-2500 dead per day for the next 4 weeks
My model is highly confident in this prediction. Basically expect another 40k dead by end of May

.
Since April 1, the country has tested roughly 145,000 people every day with no steady upward trajectory. The growth in the number of new cases per day, and the growth in the number of new tests per day, are very tightly correlated.

There are a lot of fast food workers making burritos for less than $10 per hour. Illegals undercutting the wage of American workers isn't a positive.
Not making the argument illegals taking jobs is good, of course that's bad. Making the argument I've never seen an American want to do those jobs for the rates the folks doing the jobs make currently. And those rates determine the price you pay for their products/services, which we all complain if the price goes up $.50, much less how much it would go up if a full legal, much less unionized labor force, would force it to go up for.
On a non immigration angle: Imagine how much that iPhone you have would cost if it was made in Indiana or Alabama by a union factory.

NYC:
"The medical workers I spoke with agreed that by the first week of April, the pace had shifted.
In March, the city’s emergency rooms had been full of the “worried well,” people with mild or moderate covid-19 symptoms who wanted to see a doctor or get a test.
This month, an E.R. doctor in Queens told me,
“There have been fewer people coming in per hour,
but the E.R. is overflowing because people are much sicker.
They’re on stretchers in hallways waiting for beds. No one can come out.”
Doctors and nurses spoke darkly about
“the crash”—when a covid-19 patient starts to rapidly deteriorate,
without warning, leading to organ failure and sometimes death.
Lepp described his job as a scary game of whack-a-mole.
“Imagine that you are treating fifteen to twenty patients with covid in the E.R., all with varying degrees of illness.
You know that a bunch of them are going to deteriorate over the course of a twelve-hour shift.
You’re trying to predict who those patients will be.”

There are a lot of fast food workers making burritos for less than $10 per hour. Illegals undercutting the wage of American workers isn't a positive.
Welcome to irony, bro.
Do you realize this unrestricted globalized "free trade" phenomenon is a product of 50 years of Neoliberal/Libertarian thought first popularized by Freidman that put absolute faith the free market's invisible hand to infallibly guide us toward optimal outcomes? Now maybe you'll understand that an unceasing motivation toward maximizing profit at any cost is fundamentally incompatible with certain things. In health care's case, the profit motive is incompatible with the concept of "do no harm." In this case, it's incompatible with social health.
That said, I'm in favor of immigration in giving people fleeing terrible situations in their home countries a chance at the white-picket fence American dream. This is the moral thing to do. Hmmm. You know what might prevent "illegals" from undercutting American workers for under-the-table-wages? Them becoming citizens.
We overcomplicate the legal immigration process with an inordinate amount of red tape horseshit that most illegals fresh off the proverbial boat can't afford to navigate. That's why they remain undocumented. And guess what? Your precious capitalist class loves this dynamic because them remaining "undocumented" allows business owners to pay them under (regulated) market value.
A rational and easy solution would be to grant any prospective immigrant a two year work visa that gets them into "the system." If they prove to be responsible, productive, law abiding citizens over that two year period, they obtain citizenship. One fuckup, and I don't care if they're cited for littering, then they're on the bus back to soccer land.
I'm also in favor of building up manufacturing in those countries so they won't feel the need to flee in the first place since there will be opportunity there. But your captains of industry would rather suck on the China teat. And we can get off the China teat. How? Boycott shit made there. But I don't see that mass boycott happening anytime soon because, to say again, we. are. a. nation. of. spoiled. children. We love our 300.00 4K tvs from TCL. We don't want to pay a penny more for the latest smartphone. We don't want to repair and reuse "old technology." Too inconvenient. Just throw the old one away and buy the new one.
Be interesting to see when this pandemic situation dies down, with China being cast as the main villain (deservedly so), if Americans will be able to step up and not buy their latest gizmo. And we don't need all Americans. There's enough so-called "buy Murrican" conservatives out there to get the message across. Trump's base is supposedly about 30 percent of the electorate. If they all refuse to buy Chinese, that'll put a massive dent in profits. But I know they won't. Cletus loves him some Walmart deals :lol

Berenson seems to lack the ability to logically deduce consequences and simplifies things in service of his Libertarian/anti-gubmint point-of-view.
I agree that the majority of transmission likely occurs intrafamilial. The German study corroborated this theory to an extent, and before that, Paul Auwaerter from Johns Hopkins felt the odds of contracting the virus by just being out and about were extremely low.
But how does Berenson think the virus works its way into an intrafamilial situation? Magic? Nope. Some kind of community transmission is required. "8% involving strangers" is actually a big number. Routine work in stores and offices does become a major source of transmission by default.
Let's say you have an office of 500 workers. 5 percent of those workers get sick (25 people) which is a good guesstimate considering the 20 percent infection rate on the Diamond Princess. These 25 people have an average family size of 3. We'll estimate a 50 percent infection for intrafamilial situations. The infected spouses take the virus into their own workplaces. Asymptomatic children are taken to visit the grandparents. Hugs and kisses all around. Pre-symptomatic grandparent go to church the next day. Guy from the office hosts a big poker game with the buddies. This happens:
https://www.sun-sentinel.com/coronavirus/fl-ne-dying-together-coronavirus-20200414-atv34aun7fhf7atucntor63jee-story.html
Mildly symptomatic 18 year old son goes to big weekend party. Shared drinks, bongs, vapes all around. Those infected kids pass it on to their parents, who pass it on to co-workers. And so on.
Pretty easy to see how this can be mainly intrafamilial but still explode. And Berenson's use of the word "exclusively" is just flat out misleading. If it were "exclusively" intrafamilial, then it wouldn't have infected anyone beyond a single family.

nurses and other healthcare workers were stealing masks.
This was just one of the almost relentless lies Trump has told in hope of deflecting his administration’s complete failure to stem our country’s current public health and economic crises.
At the time, Trump made this somewhat incoherent, and conspiratorial, statement:
“For years 10 to 20,000 masks. Okay, it’s a New York hospital. It’s packed all the time.
How do you go from 10 to 20 to 300,000 masks, 10 to 20,000 masks to 300,000, even though this is different.
Something’s going on, and you ought to look into it as reporters.
Where are the masks going? Are they going out the back door?
How do you go from 10,000 to 300,000, and we have that in a lot of different places.
So somebody should probably look into that,
because I just don’t see from a practical standpoint how that’s possible to go from that to that,
and we have that happening in numerous places.”
It was deeply offensive to most people with even a glimmer of intelligence,

Doubt your timeline is right. It’s about to go into a 1500 patient expanded trial. It appears to be showing dramatic positive outcome for patients on ventilators where there’s been an 80 mortality rate. Since they’re already using sketchy, anecdotal hydrocloraquin this will be super fast tracked.

here is some info nigs:
The reasons involve biology and, to a lesser extent, money. Drug companies have developed treatments for a handful of viruses in the last few decades, such as HIV and the flu, but the arsenal is minimal when compared with all the antibiotics we have for treating bacteria. Remember that viruses are not bacteria, so antibiotics are no help.
The main difficulty is that viruses are technically not alive, instead depending on the “machinery” inside human cells to reproduce, said Zachary A. Klase, associate professor of biology at the University of the Sciences. So a drug that targets any part of that parasitic cycle could harm the patient in the process.
“You want something that targets the sickness and not you,” he said. “You need to look for the special things that only the virus is doing."
A few of the enzymes used by various viruses are distinct enough from their human counterparts that they can be targeted without harming the patient, said Megan Culler Freeman, a fellow in the pediatrics department at the University of Pittsburgh. That is how antiviral drugs work against HIV, for example. But even then, such drugs do not eliminate the virus, but instead keep it under control, she said.

Why do you consider a drug that would prevent viral replication not a potential cure? Not saying this definitely does but that is the hypothesis.
As examples Sofosbuvir and ledipasvir which together greatly reduce and then stop the production of new copies of the hepatitis C virus.
Further thought remdesivir might save the patient but they might not have immunity similar to hep C patients who can become reinfected. However, studies of COVID have shown that the patient with the more severe cases have had the highest antibody titres while mild patients have often had no antibodies present, so with treated patients you could expect to have gained immunity. Much to be proven still about the disease

If we had a more libertarian country I'd have less of a problem with illegals.
Yes, I'm sure you are fine with allowing every one that wants to come here to come in. It'll do exactly what happened to Virginia to the entire country. A massive supply of low wage workers even if they are legal isn't beneficial. I don't really care about the red tape because we already accept more than enough legal immigrants. In fact we let too many in that end up dependent on the government. We need higher standards.
There will need to be an active movement to not buy China. Otherwise basically nobody will make that individual decision.

I wonder how many hypochondriacs went to the hospital, who were actually negative, caught it at the hospital, and went back home, only to infect their families?

Here's a good article that explains it:

That article may be right in the sense of a cure. If Gilead’s drug is successful it’s because it saves the patient by disrupting the viruses ability to replicate. In the Univ of Chicago study the brief synopsis described 113 patients only 2 of which died and many had a fairly rapid recovery. It did not say, at least where I saw, if all patients were out of the woods. Those are pretty astounding results though. Are they cured in that they have immunity? That would remain to be seen but as I said the more severely affected patients in general have the highest antibody titres. I imagine a more detailed paper will be published which should make for good reading. Bottom line if it did work as well as in this study risk of death would be vastly reduced, patients could be treated earlier before need for ventilation and need for these social constraints would be eliminated. Herd immunity could rule.
As an aside Hep C patients don’t get immunity but if reinfected they can be retreated.

You seem like the type of poster who would login to a different screen name just to attempt a nonsensical personal insult because you'd be embarrassed if others knew it was you.
I'm going to break down your life for you. You likely have never had someone do this before for you, and it will hurt. You will also likely read all of this and think that I don't know what I'm talking about. You will attempt to make excuses and say, "But he doesn't understand". You will also think I'm an asshole. Be aware - I'm going to be an sshole by design, because you've likely never had someone be so blunt with you to the point that it hurts. That's OK. We were all in this boat once. Some of us sank. Some of us did not. You, if you don't heed my words, will sink and be miserable for the rest of your life - with or without this woman. So bud, strap in, listen up, put your ego away for the next few minutes and pretend that I know everything about you.
*hint* - I do know every thing about you. Because I was once you, well, sort of. You're a bigger faggot than I ever was, but I digress. How do I know everything about you? Because I'm fucking man, and all those things you wrote about being emotionally lonely I've felt too.
Most men become faggots when babies are born. We think we need to provide extra comfort, be amenable to our wives demands, and do whatever she asks and needs because she is the mother of our child. We want to do everything we can to make her life easy - because that's what a "good man" does. We sacrifice our own happiness most in this time to appease our wife's emotions because that's what we've always been told to do... and pregnancy/children ramp up this false mental model to an unhealthy degree.
Happy wife, happy life, right?
Wrong f@ggot.
You have a good thing here that your wife is traditional. But, it's also pretty bad for you because you're not a traditional man. You're not a strong, confident, ball-busting, take-no-shit leader. Women who grow up with traditional ideals desire a STRONG and DOMINANT man in their lives. You are a pussy.
Of course she is a prude. Traditional women desire to be feminine and soft. Asian women (by a stretch of massive generalities) are viewed in the west as some of the softest, genuine, caring women to be found. It's not far from the truth because they have not yet been influenced by 2nd and 3rd wave feminism that most women in the west have been. But if you're not up to the task of being a STRONG man of high value, they will bitch, complain, and be a prude. Ask anyone here how they know. They'll tell you.
I guarantee you that if the 6'3, 215lb, 9% BF dude named Chad McThundercock who can pick up 450lbs off the floor that she saw last week in the grocery store buying grocerices for her faggot husband decided that she was going to be his for the afternoon, he would game her just a little and her little pussy tinglez would light on fire for his giant biceps and rock hard cock. He'd scoop her up, take her back to your house where he would carry her up the stairs, throw her on YOUR bed and rip her panties off and her pussy would be trailing juices as long as the Nile river and as wet as Niagra Falls while he shoved his seemingly massive cock inside her tight little hole. He would dominate her by slamming her face down on the bed and f*cking her sweet little tang. She would moan and say things you've never heard before as he pounded her cunt from behind and she would never think twice about what she was doing to ruin your sweet little marriage that you think you have. He would flip her over, shoot a massive load of hot cum all over her face and she would take her index finger across her forehead splattered with his cum and wipe it all over her lips. After which, she would take that same finger, put it in her mouth and mutter the words, "Oh my god, Chad, you taste so good."
That's what women really want when they f*ck a man. And it can happen to you.

How do you figure that? Globalization is basically loosely regulated free-trade in action, and all that's resulted in is the problems many skeptics of globalism on both the left and right complain about: Middle-class erosion and the destruction of the domestic manufacturing base. Since labor expense contributes the most to overhead, business owners are constantly looking for ways to minimize that cost, and they finally found it 40 some years ago through outsourcing to countries that have limited-to-zero labor laws.
A massive supply of low wage workers even if they are legal isn't beneficial.
How so? If they're legal and introduced into the system, they have to take a minimum wage by law and therefore can't undercut others by agreeing to depressed under-the-table wages. If your argument here is that immigrants are willing to work for less, then doesn't that illustrate a problem with how irresponsible the average American is with his money? If Pablo can make minimum/median wage work for his family of 4, why can't the American? Maybe because Pablo doesn't need the new iPhone every 6 months, buys used goods on the classifieds, fixes and repairs things, isn't subscribed to 600 streaming services. I can go on. And yes, I have direct experience to an extent here. I sell a lot of used shit on offer up and the like. Go to a lot of thrift stores. Latino immigrants are 98% of the consumer base here.

Many of those starting new small businesses are Latino immigrants. I've seen my own neighborhood slowly transition to more immigrants, and they all take care of their yards, are well behaved, family oriented, and generally great people. Yes, I do have a few issues with the few who seem to value their home country over their adopted country with the waving of their flags or a stubbornness to learn English, but they really are the minority despite what the Fox News tells you. This is probably why Fox News focuses on the homeless shitting in the streets on San Francisco or Los Angeles and then weakly tries to tie that to "sanctuary cities." Fun fact is most of the homeless are actually white people who travelled here from Trump land because the weather is great all year around. Blacks also make up a big percentage. https://imgur.com/a/0ZmQ7fv
I can't remember the last time I saw a Latino homeless person in my area, but I do know they exist. Just not as common.
See, this is why your side gets the "racism" tag, because the backlash against immigration isn't based on any kind of fact and just cherry-picked examples (like Virginia) or some guy flying the Mexican flag on the 4th of July or whatever. I'm not saying you're racist, but if the facts illustrate that immigration isn't some net-negative proposition, then what is the argument against it aside from appealing to some ethnonationalism horseshit? They get government aid? If they're low-wage workers who pay taxes (and they do), they're entitled to government aid like many working poor Americans. So I ask again, what's the problem?

Von Miller is recovering from a case of COVID-19.
Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Miller is "at home resting and in good spirits." Rapsheet reports Miller will speak publicly on Friday. It is unknown if Miller has been around other Broncos players or officials. Rams C Brian Allen was announced as the league's first confirmed case of COVID-19 on Wednesday, but the reality is there are probably several dozen players infected. Elite athletes, NFL players are in the demographic that should mostly be untroubled by the coronavirus, but as we have learned, the disease can be arbitrary and capricious. Hopefully the cases remain low and there are swift recoveries for all.

Why We Don’t Know the True Death Rate for Covid-19
Determining what percentage of those infected by the coronavirus will die is a key question for epidemiologists, but an elusive one during the pandemic.
epidemiologists ... expect resurgent waves of infection that could last into 2022 (https://science.sciencemag.org/content/early/2020/04/14/science.abb5793).
the projection (https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/13/us/coronavirus-deaths-estimate.html) circulated by infectious disease experts of how many infected people would die seemed plenty dire (https://www.imperial.ac.uk/media/imperial-college/medicine/sph/ide/gida-fellowships/Imperial-College-COVID19-NPI-modelling-16-03-2020.pdf):
around 1 percent (https://www.c-span.org/video/?c4860450/user-clip-dr-anthony-fauci-addresses-covid-19-mortality-rate), or 10 times the rate of a typical flu.
the death rate by dividing total deaths by the number of known cases (https://qap.ecdc.europa.eu/public/extensions/COVID-19/COVID-19.html), about 6.4 percent of people infected with the virus have now died worldwide.
In Italy, the death rate stands at about 13 percent, and
in the United States, around 4.3 percent,
Even in South Korea, where widespread testing helped contain the outbreak, 2 percent of people who tested positive for the virus have died, recent data shows (https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/world/coronavirus-maps.html#countries).
These supposed death rates also appear to vary widely by geography:
Germany’s fatality rate appears to be roughly one-tenth of Italy’s (https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/04/world/europe/germany-coronavirus-death-rate.html), and Los Angeles’s about half of New York’s.
Among U.S. states,
Michigan, at around 7 percent, is at the high end, while
Wyoming, which reported its first two deaths this week, has one of the lowest death rates, at about 0.7 percent.

Sorry brah, but Pablo is not the gold standard for living in America. If keeping your kids in some bed-bug ridden Section 8 apartment, hearing Jamal and Shaniqua constantly chimping out nextdoor through those cheap paper-thin walls, hearing the "Stanky Leg" being blared through your neighbor's subwoofer next door, while married to some meth-head whose teeth are falling out because you have no other dating options sounds good to some people, I won't stop them. But not an ideal situation for most of us imo

UK was too slow on coronavirus and 40,000 could die
Prime Minister Boris Johnson initially refrained from approving the stringent controls
that other European leaders imposed but then closed down the country when projections showed a quarter of a million people could die in the United Kingdom.
So far, more than 14,576 people with COVID-19 have died in British hospitals,
though new official data indicates the true death toll could be much larger.

Experts criticize Trump’s new White House Press Secretary for latest claim
https://www.rawstory.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Kayleigh-McEnany.jpg
Kayleigh McEnany (https://www.thenewcivilrightsmovement.com/?s=Kayleigh+McEnany), who Trump imported from his re-election campaign, struck out on Twitter Thursday with what many are declaring are complete and total lies about the President’s horrific coronavirus testing record.
(Speaking of records, McEnany’s is that of a racist, a birther, and a hypocrite (https://www.thenewcivilrightsmovement.com/2020/04/still-in-that-hut-in-kenya-presidents-new-white-house-press-secretary-is-a-birther-and-a-huge-hypocrite/).)
What matters is per-capita testing – how many tests per million people. And the U.S., thanks to Trump, is doing extremely poorly – and trending worse. Which means more people are dying than would have if Trump had gotten testing right.

Dow futures rip 800 points higher amid report Gilead drug showing effectiveness treating coronavirus
U.S. stock futures surged on Thursday night after a report said a Gilead Sciences drug was showing effectiveness in treating the coronavirus. The move pointed to a jump for the stock market on Friday.
Dow Jones Industrial Average futures were up 800 points, or about 3.4%. S&P 500 futures gained 3.2% while Nasdaq 100 futures were up by 2.1%.
Gilead shares jumped by 14% in after-hours trading after STAT news reported that a Chicago hospital treating coronavirus patients with Remdesivir in a trial were recovering rapidly from severe symptoms. The publication cited a video it obtained where the trial results were discussed.

Your posting frequency in this thread has tracked down perfectly in line with modeled death projections :lol
Sorry man, I actually have work to do. We're at 30k deaths with severe under counting and we're only halfway through the months. The rate of climb has slowed thankfully, but its still a rate of increase. Its not flat, and its certainly not declining. Fauchi's estimate of 100k is sadly looking low. But you somehow think you're right here. You're celebrating the deaths of tens of thousands of Americans. Sad.
Honestly I started coming back to the thread more when it became more of the same bullshit that is pretty much every thread on this forum. Just a back and forth about bullshit that is just obnoxious. When there was actual discussion about the situation and an avoidance of the bullshit, I actually enjoyed this thread. When it started to become the same old nonsense, then meh.

I'm celebrating that we won't be anywhere near your prediction of 150K in a week. You should be celebrating as well.
We all should be. We have collectively avoided all becoming NYC. It is a very good thing.
But:
.0066
We have bought ourselves that so far. All of our efforts are to keep it at this minimal level.
This disease will still kill around .66% of everybody who ends up catching it. The best we can do is keep the infection rate low enough not to overwhelm our hospital system, which is a very very thin margin in most places.
We will hit 150k. Just like we will hit 200k. 200k = roughly 9% (30M) of the US population having had the disease, low for any flu-type illness, especially one the spreads this easily. 30-60% is more likely. For perspective .66% of 60% of 330,000,000 is over a million people. That should be a VERY sobering thought.
Not a matter of *if*, but when. :(
If the health care system gets overwhelmed, that rate will be MUCH higher.
I hope no one forgets that.

The experts, from the University of Bonn, said that their initial findings show that as many as 15 per cent of the town of Gangelt - dubbed the 'German Wuhan' - had antibodies to Covid-19.
These people had not shown symptoms and were not previously thought to have been infected, they added.
That figure is three times higher than previous estimates, and if correct then Germany's death rate is just 0.37 per cent
Still roughly in line with the initial estimates of .66% likely within both studies margin of error.
We are homing on on the actual figure then. Good.

How incredibly irresponsible. Keep that up, and you are really increasing your odds of getting this disease. Given your age (seem to remember over 60), I guess you are old enough to pick your own death.

Official numbers haven't changed. Would be strange for Cuomo not to mention this given this is an astronomical change in numbers after we've had these type of numbers now for over a week.
Preliminary results from government lab experiments show that the coronavirus does not survive long in high temperatures and high humidity, and is quickly destroyed by sunlight, providing evidence from controlled tests of what scientists believed — but had not yet proved — to be true.
A briefing on the preliminary results, marked for official use only and obtained by Yahoo News, offers hope that summertime may offer conditions less hospitable for the virus, though experts caution it will by no means eliminate, or even necessarily decrease, new cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. The results, however, do add an important piece of knowledge that the White House’s science advisers have been seeking as they scramble to respond to the spreading pandemic.

Could be related to this:
Changes in United States Data following the new CDC guidelines on "Case" and "Death" definition
Following new CDC guidelines (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/cases-updates/cases-in-us.html): "As of April 14, 2020, CDC case counts and death counts include both confirmed and probable cases and deaths. This change was made to reflect an interim COVID-19 position statement issued by the Council for State and Territorial Epidemiologists on April 5, 2020. The position statement included a case definition and made COVID-19 a nationally notifiable disease.
A confirmed case or death is defined by meeting confirmatory laboratory evidence for COVID-19. A probable case or death is defined by i) meeting clinical criteria AND epidemiologic evidence with no confirmatory laboratory testing performed for COVID-19; or ii) meeting presumptive laboratory evidence AND either clinical criteria OR epidemiologic evidence; or iii) meeting vital records criteria with no confirmatory laboratory testing performed for COVID19" [source (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/cases-updates/cases-in-us.html)]
This change is a further example (https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/how-to-interpret-feb-12-case-surge/) of one of the many reasons why the label "confirmed cases" (used by some to designate total cases) is incorrect (see definitions (https://www.spurstalk.com/coronavirus/about/#definitions) for more details). The US CDC (and Worldometer) has always used the label "Total Cases." Canada is another example where the "total number includes publicly reported confirmed and probable cases [source (https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/2019-novel-coronavirus-infection.html?topic=tilelink#a1)]
On April 14, New York City reported 3,778 additional deaths that have occurred since March 11 and have been classified as "probable," defined as follows: “decedent [...] had no known positive laboratory test for SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) but the death certificate lists as a cause of death “COVID-19” or an equivalent" [source (https://www1.nyc.gov/assets/doh/downloads/pdf/imm/covid-19-deaths-confirmed-probable-daily-04142020.pdf)].
From April 14 onward, New York City has provided - and will continue to provide - the updated number of probable deaths in its daily reports.
On April 15, in the daily press briefing, New York Governor Cuomo said that "we will begin reporting all categories of fatalities pursuant to new CDC guidelines and are contacting facilities to get updated numbers." He also added that there may be additional people who died that have not been counted because not in a hospital. In the April 15 update, the New York State Department of Health official website (https://covid19tracker.health.ny.gov/views/NYS-COVID19-Tracker/NYSDOHCOVID-19Tracker-Map?%3Aembed=yes&%3Atoolbar=no&%3Atabs=n) had still not included (nor reported separately) the additional "probable" deaths reported by New York City the day before. On April 16, when asked about the issue, New York State officials commented on their decision to not add the New York City probable deaths in the official State count saying that probable deaths have been reported by New York City in a new and separate category, without adding the two numbers (confirmed and probable) together into a single category.
The state of Ohio is an example of a state that has started reporting total cases and deaths correctly, in accordance with the new CDC guidelines. On its "Overview dashboard" (https://coronavirus.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/covid-19/dashboards/overview) it show total cases and total deaths, while also providing the breakdown (https://coronavirus.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/covid-19/home) between confirmed and probable, with the note "CDC Expanded Case Definition (Probable)" and "CDC Expanded Death Definition (Probable)."
Worldometer is also following the new CDC guideline (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/cases-updates/cases-in-us.html)of including both probable and confirmed in the total case and death counts.
As with similar instances in the past (with other countries), we have added the additional data on the day it was reported. If and when the historical distribution is provided, we will make the needed adjustments.
Finally, since every probable death necessarily implies a probable case, logic mandates that the adjustment be made to both deaths and cases, and not only to deaths. We have now adjusted April 14, April 15, and current data for New York State and the United States accordingly.

Bayer's chloroquine donation to U.S. raises concern about FDA standards in pandemic
On March 21, two days after President Donald Trump first touted chloroquine drugs as a “gamechanger” in the fight against COVID-19, administration officials privately described what they felt was
a “win” in the president’s efforts to build an emergency stockpile of the drugs: a hefty donation of pills from Bayer AG
chief of staff of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA),
cautioned that “3-4 days” of testing would be needed. :lol caution? :lol
“Potentially serious issues with product so let’s be careful when we take that win,”
After a brief period of testing, its use in the United States was approved on an emergency basis.
But three U.S. government sources familiar with the matter told Reuters that
there is reason to be concerned about the quality of Resochin and its makers, located in India and Pakistan.
the FDA dropped its quality-control standards too far as it scoured the world for scarce supplies of chloroquine drugs,
The plants that make Resochin ingredients and finished doses in India and Pakistan have never been registered with, or inspected by, the FDA
(Bayer's) Resochin was not approved.
Pakistani regulators, who inspected Bayer’s Resochin plant in Karachi in 2015, found a “gross failure” in manufacturing processes there
the FDA has never screened the Indore, India, plant that supplies ingredients for Resochin, the U.S. agency has inspected other Indian plants run by the same Indian supplier and found serious deficiencies, including falsification of records, inspection documents spanning 2014 through 2019 show.
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-bayer-chloroquine/exclusive-fda-may-have-dropped-standards-too-far-in-hunt-for-chloroquine-to-fight-coronavirus-sources-idUSKBN21Y2LO?feedType=RSS&feedName=domesticNews (https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-bayer-chloroquine/exclusive-fda-may-have-dropped-standards-too-far-in-hunt-for-chloroquine-to-fight-coronavirus-sources-idUSKBN21Y2LO?feedType=RSS&feedName=domesticNews)
So to suck up to Trash, the politicized FDA hacks accepted untested, and possibly sub-standard, possibly even tainted Resochin ?

Millions of Essential Workers Are Being Left Out of COVID-19 Workplace Safety Protections, Thanks to OSHA
Even as the federal worker-safety agency has been inundated with complaints,
it has rolled back safety standards and virtually eliminated non-health care workplaces from government protection.

Colbert Hits Trump Where It Hurts In Epic Rant:
‘You Didn’t Have The Balls’
“The Late Show” host called out the president’s claim to hold power over the states.
called out President Donald Trump (https://www.huffpost.com/news/topic/donald-trump) for his attempt to grab power amid the coronavirus (https://www.huffpost.com/news/topic/coronavirus) pandemic.
Colbert pointed out a hole in the president’s logic:
Trump can’t reopen the states because
he’s not the one who shut them down in the first
place. Governors did.
Trump has repeatedly put the burden of the response onto governors (https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2020/04/02/coronavirus-trump-hits-governors-says-andrew-cuomo-working-hard/5108421002/), insisted the federal government “is merely a back-up for state governments (https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/letter-president-donald-j-trump-senator-charles-e-schumer/)” and at one point
even called himself a cheerleader (https://www.huffpost.com/entry/trump-coronavirus-cheerleader_n_5e8d0872c5b6e1a2e0fb7aeb). :lol a great role for Cadet Bone Spurs
"Sorry, Chester.
Reopening the country is not up to you,
because you did not have the balls to shut the country down in the first place.
You were the one who said you were just a cheerleader.
You put yourself on the sidelines.
Cheerleaders don’t get a Super Bowl trophy. In fact, they barely get paid.
They’re just supposed
to look good and
spell words right,
and you can’t do either! "
