Covid vaccine mandates are on the rise. Will that move the needle?
Vaccination requirements may capture more people who haven't yet been inoculated.
"Every little bit helps," a doctor said, but the true impact remains unclear.
Federal and state employers and some private businesses are edging closer to requiring workers to be vaccinated

One way to get rid of MAGAtards at work.
If your employer fires you because you won’t get the COVID vaccine, don’t expect to collect unemployment.
Each day more employers are telling employees they need to be vaccinated against COVID-19 to work in person or risk being fired.
In most states, individuals have to prove they’re out of work through no fault of their own to collect unemployment benefits.
“This often means that they are let go due to a lack of work,” said Alana Ackels, a labor and employment lawyer at Bell Nunnally, a Dallas-based law firm.
“Typically, an employee who is terminated for failing to comply with company policies is not eligible for unemployment benefits, which would include refusing to comply with a company’s COVID-19 prevention policies, masking requirements or vaccine requirements,” Ackels told MarketWatch.
But an employee who has proof of a medical exemption or religious objection to receiving a COVID-19 vaccine may still be eligible to collect unemployment benefits if fired, said Rebecca Dixon, executive director at the National Employment Law Project, a nonprofit that advocates for worker’s rights.
Otherwise, refusing to get a COVID-19 vaccine, if your employer requires one, “is akin to an employee’s refusal to submit to permissible drug tests or participate in safety trainings,” said Ronald Zambrano, employment law chair at West Coast Trial Lawyers, a Los Angeles–based law firm. That is, such an employee, when terminated, would not qualify for unemployment benefits, Zambrano said.

This is how SCIENCE works.
Hater does not like the way science works. He wants it to as simple as possible at the expense of any accuracy.
This is virus is different, it has to be figured out, constantly. You just completely disregard the recent history of this whole ordeal and pretend like a change in course because of new info is a flip flop. "Oh lets just wait five years and let the house burn down, then we will figure out why it burned to the ground. Safety first!" You just dont get it. You either react immediately and compulsively with no thought whatsoever when it suits your politics, or say everything is just peachy in Russia, 23 years of harmony under Putin.
The problem is all you crave the politics of authoritarians and use this as your science.
You dont give two shits about people, stop it with your maudlin charade. You are deceitful dumbass.

Iceland has had the whole kit and kaboodle: masking, social distancing, testing/tracing, travel restrictions, quarantine (and double testing for positives), national scale, real-time data collection -- as well as 93% of people over 16 fully vaccinated.
It looks like herd immunity isn't reachable with the current generation of vaccines. Info from Denmark reinforces the inference.

Pretty much this. To say that medicine isn't always evolving is like saying IT has been stagnant for the last 30 years. Treatment modalities, even for common disease processes, are always changing based on latest research. Doctors and hospitals are always re-educating and learning new strategies. They have to.

‘There is a real cost’: As Covid shows, barring bedside visitors from ICU deprives patients of the best care
(http://‘There is a real cost’: As Covid shows, barring bedside visitors from ICU deprives patients of the best care)
A growing body of evidence supports the theory that bedside visitors offer not only comfort, but true clinical value. As experts on their loved ones, they can provide important details that may be missing from health records, and can clock subtle changes in behavior that may precede adverse medical complications. Visitors can calm agitated patients with a touch of the hand and reassure them with a word. They fluff pillows, fetch ice, clip fingernails, brush hair, and bring in favorite foods that might convince someone to eat for the first time in a long time.
And humanizing the ICU, it turns out, can actually help someone survive and recover fully from critical illness. Around the world, studies are showing that when visiting hours are longer and more flexible, ICU stays are shorter (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28671901/). Patients are less likely to suffer from delirium or anxiety. They have lower levels (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16490836/) of stress-related hormones. Coronary patients had lower (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/7689390/) heart rates after bedside visits; patients with brain conditions showed a decrease (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/2951451/) in intracranial pressure during theirs. The studies have their limits, but taken together, the picture is clear: In almost every case, more and longer visits improves a patient’s health.
“There seems to be this feeling that family is nice-to-have, not essential,” said Daniela Lamas, a pulmonary and critical care physician at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. But when they’re not around, as has been the case during most of the pandemic, she said, “there is a real cost.”

Fauci said, "Obviously, you need to take it seriously and do the kind of things the (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and the Department of Homeland Security is doing. But this is not a major threat to the people of the United States and this is not something that the citizens of the United States right now should be worried about."
Jan. 26, Fauci gave an interview to John Catsimatidis, a syndicated radio host in New York. "What can you tell the American people about what's been going on?" Catsimatidis asked. "Should they be scared?"
"I don't think so," Fauci said. "The American people should not be worried or frightened by this. It's a very, very low risk to the United States, but it's something we, as public health officials, need to take very seriously."

Florida and Texas Are Competing to See Who Can Come Up With the Dumbest COVID Rules
While Joe Biden calls on elected officials to help fight the pandemic or “get out of the way,” Ron DeSantis and Greg Abbott are outdoing one another to see who can make their state more virus-riddled.
Thanks to Ron DeSantis, the profoundly cynical and incorrigibly smug Florida governor,
the Sunshine State had lead by a nose in this race to the bottom.
DeSantis has
mocked (https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2021/08/report-florida-doctors-think-ron-desantis-is-a-national-embarrassment) public health officials as caseloads skyrocketed,
pursued an idiotic offensive (https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/05/politics/ron-desantis-joe-biden-donald-trump-covid-politics/index.html) against Biden, and
enacted rules designed to prevent mask (https://www.flgov.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Executive-Order-21-175.pdf) and vaccine (https://www.flgov.com/2021/05/03/governor-ron-desantis-signs-landmark-legislation-to-ban-vaccine-passports-and-stem-government-overreach/) requirements and
to forbid municipalities (https://apnews.com/article/florida-coronavirus-laws-health-083b2c00304c9569a78040ca741aeba1) from instituting their own COVID safety measures.
Texas, led by Greg Abbott, who has also banned local COVID ordinances, has come roaring back. :lol
On Thursday, the state released a new guidance that somehow makes DeSantis’s effort (https://twitter.com/chrislhayes/status/1422981255419813890) to block cruise ships from requiring vaccines seem smart:
Under recommendations from the Texas Education Agency (https://twitter.com/wfaa/status/1423418544767787017),
schools do not need to conduct contract tracing and
do not need to let parents know if a student has tested positive for the virus.
If a student does come into contact with an infected person,
a parent can still send them to school under the new guidance.
Not only are they declining to push vaccinations,
as other government and business officials are doing with increased urgency (https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2021/08/vaccination-mandates-gain-momentum-amid-new-variant-fears),
the two governors are actively standing in the way of precautions to at least limit the spread of the virus,
which they’ve cavalierly downplayed.
“This is our COVID season,” DeSantis shrugged (https://twitter.com/therecount/status/1423359744585129988) Thursday. :lol
DeSantis on Thursday came out against health care facilities requiring staff to be vaccinated: “It’s not something I support,” he said (https://www.clickorlando.com/news/2021/08/05/gov-ron-desantis-objects-to-vaccine-mandates-at-florida-hospitals/).)
DeSantis and Abbott may be overseeing a breeding ground for potential new variants
“When you give it ample opportunity to mutate,” Dr. Anthony Fauci said Thursday,
“you may sooner or later get another variant, and
it is possible that that variant might be in some respects worse than the already very difficult variant we’re dealing with now.”
https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2021/08/florida-texas-competing-to-see-who-can-come-up-with-dumbest-covid-rules
the chances of a much worse variant are much greater in countries the Capitalist-driven for-profit BigPharma has refused to help.
Fuck Capitalism, fuck Capitalists

horrific, if accurate
A study by Imperial College London found that Covid-19 test positivity among UK children five to 12 years was two- to six-fold higher than for persons 45 and older. As of Wednesday, one in 10 Covid-19 test results for US children five to 11 years are positive, and the week-over-week rise in test positivity is climbing fastest for this age group. Covid-19 test positivity among US children 12-17 (12.3%) is higher than for any other age group.
A published report of Scottish data noted that the Delta variant doubles the risk of Covid-19 hospitalization, regardless of age. The number of US children in the hospital due to Covid-19 doubled between 30 June and 31 July. On Thursday, US hospitals reported 249 pediatric admissions due to Covid-19, which is four admissions shy of the all-time single-day record (253). On a population-adjusted basis, the weekly average of US children admitted to hospitals with Covid-19 is rising faster than any other age group (as of Wednesday).
There is growing evidence to show that even mild or asymptomatic cases of Covid-19 among children can evolve into chronic (“long”) Covid. Newly published research suggests that at least one in 25 children with Covid-19 experience symptoms lasting more than four weeks. A separate UK government report estimates that at least one in eight children still have symptoms five weeks after their initial infection. Emerging data also suggests that up to one in 50 asymptomatic Covid-19 cases among children will evolve into chronic Covid.

Making parents 'opt out,' San Antonio ISD is getting kids to mask up -
but other districts won't push it
“We basically have a three-part strategy for us, for safety,” San Antonio Independent School District Superintendent Pedro Martinez told the Express-News Editorial Board last week.
“We have vaccination clinics across all of our large high schools that started kicking off this week.
We have COVID testing at every school.”
“And over 99 percent of our families are going to be masking up,” he said.
the district asked families to state whether they wanted to “opt out” of wearing masks this fall,
Fewer than 100 families did so by last week.

It's not just a Dr job. There's a political and communications angle to it as well.
He's certainly qualified for the position. I can't tell you he's the best because I don't know that field that well, but I think he's done a terrific job considering he had to deal with a clown president next to him since the pandemic started up until a few months.

The problem with Fauci is he approached this pandemic the same as SARS1 and Ebola. The whole test & trace, travel restrictions aren't helpful, we're gonna beat the virus approach. Maybe understandable early on even though some of us on ST (like Hater) could tell this virus was different even back then. Problem is the old man still hasn't come to grips with reality and because the very premise of his messaging is wrong it has led to confusion among the peoples.

I think the biggest problem Fauci faced is that, unlike other pandemics, this was politicized from the get go. That also made it such that every state was on their own, instead of having a coordinated federal response.
Not going to say that mistakes were not made (there were mistakes) and that messaging was impeccable (it wasn't), but in this particular case there was much, much more to deal with than just the disease, unfortunately.

Children and the Delta variant
Coronavirus cases among children are surging across the U.S., with some doctors seeing more critically ill pediatric patients (https://nl.nytimes.com/f/newsletter/Cindr9WcivEz5nis1Pd_Vg~~/AAAAAQA~/RgRi9CORP0ToaHR0cHM6Ly93d3cubnl0aW1lcy5jb20vMjAyMS 8wOC8wOS9oZWFsdGgvY29yb25hdmlydXMtY2hpbGRyZW4tZGVs dGEuaHRtbD9jYW1wYWlnbl9pZD0xNTQmZW1jPWVkaXRfY2JfMj AyMTA4MDkmaW5zdGFuY2VfaWQ9Mzc1MTImbmw9Y29yb25hdmly dXMtYnJpZWZpbmcmcmVnaV9pZD04MDgyMTc5NyZzZWdtZW50X2 lkPTY1Nzk0JnRlPTEmdXNlcl9pZD05OTJkNjA4MjE0YjUwNTAw M2FhMDRiZjEwYTU5NTAzMVcDbnl0QgphEZGeEWFmUoBYUhNkYX Jub2NuZWxAZ21haWwuY29tWAQAAAAA) than at any other point during the pandemic.
From July 22 to July 29,
the number of new cases in children nearly doubled to around 72,000,
according to data from the American Academy of Pediatrics, and
children now make uparound 20 percent of all cases in the U.S. (https://nl.nytimes.com/f/a/4_ISx1M3j358pZuAObBzww~~/AAAAAQA~/RgRi9CORP0T-aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuY2JzbmV3cy5jb20vdmlkZW8vY2hpbGRyZW 4tbWFrZS11cC0yMC1wZXJjZW50LW9mLWFsbC1uZXctY292aWQt Y2FzZXMtYWNyb3NzLXRoZS11cy8_Y2FtcGFpZ25faWQ9MTU0Jm VtYz1lZGl0X2NiXzIwMjEwODA5Jmluc3RhbmNlX2lkPTM3NTEy Jm5sPWNvcm9uYXZpcnVzLWJyaWVmaW5nJnJlZ2lfaWQ9ODA4Mj E3OTcmc2VnbWVudF9pZD02NTc5NCZ0ZT0xJnVzZXJfaWQ9OTky ZDYwODIxNGI1MDUwMDNhYTA0YmYxMGE1OTUwMzFXA255dEIKYR GRnhFhZlKAWFITZGFybm9jbmVsQGdtYWlsLmNvbVgEAAAAAA~~ )
The number of children entering the hospital with Covid has also been climbing, nearly matching the level from the pandemic’s peak in January.
Some of the biggest surges have come in places where the Delta variant is spreading quickly:
In Louisiana, nearly 3,500 children tested positive (https://nl.nytimes.com/f/a/uC7mIYUEtm80f40BpqHI-g~~/AAAAAQA~/RgRi9CORP4QTAWh0dHBzOi8vd3d3Lndkc3UuY29tL2FydGljbG UvbW9yZS10aGFuLTMwMDAtbG91aXNpYW5hLWNoaWxkcmVuLXRl c3QtcG9zaXRpdmUtZm9yLWNvdmlkLTE5LWluLWp1c3QtZm91ci 1kYXlzLzM3MjQ2MTk0P2NhbXBhaWduX2lkPTE1NCZlbWM9ZWRp dF9jYl8yMDIxMDgwOSZpbnN0YW5jZV9pZD0zNzUxMiZubD1jb3 JvbmF2aXJ1cy1icmllZmluZyZyZWdpX2lkPTgwODIxNzk3JnNl Z21lbnRfaWQ9NjU3OTQmdGU9MSZ1c2VyX2lkPTk5MmQ2MDgyMT RiNTA1MDAzYWEwNGJmMTBhNTk1MDMxVwNueXRCCmERkZ4RYWZS gFhSE2Rhcm5vY25lbEBnbWFpbC5jb21YBAAAAAA~) in just a few days, and
the average age of pediatric patients dropped to just 5 years old.
These numbers have sparked concerns that what had once seemed like the smallest of silver linings — that Covid-19 mostly spared children — might be changing. But the details are murky.
Most children with Covid-19 have mild symptoms, and there is not yet enough evidence to conclude that Delta causes more severe disease in children than other variants do, scientists told our colleague Emily Antes.
What is clear is that a confluence of factors — including Delta’s contagiousness and the fact that people under 12 are not yet eligible to be vaccinated — is sending more children to the hospital.
Most children who contract Covid have relatively mild symptoms, such as runny noses, congestion, coughs or fevers.
But a small share of children, especially those with pre-existing conditions, develop severe disease, showing up at the hospital with pneumonia or in respiratory distress.
Others develop lingering neurological, physical or psychiatric symptoms, known as “long Covid.” (https://nl.nytimes.com/f/newsletter/_hS2E-8pxaC6GCL7IZbHUg~~/AAAAAQA~/RgRi9CORP0TdaHR0cHM6Ly93d3cubnl0aW1lcy5jb20vMjAyMS 8wOC8wOC9oZWFsdGgvbG9uZy1jb3ZpZC1raWRzLmh0bWw_Y2Ft cGFpZ25faWQ9MTU0JmVtYz1lZGl0X2NiXzIwMjEwODA5Jmluc3 RhbmNlX2lkPTM3NTEyJm5sPWNvcm9uYXZpcnVzLWJyaWVmaW5n JnJlZ2lfaWQ9ODA4MjE3OTcmc2VnbWVudF9pZD02NTc5NCZ0ZT 0xJnVzZXJfaWQ9OTkyZDYwODIxNGI1MDUwMDNhYTA0YmYxMGE1 OTUwMzFXA255dEIKYRGRnhFhZlKAWFITZGFybm9jbmVsQGdtYW lsLmNvbVgEAAAAAA~~)
Now, as cases surge, families of high-risk children are growing increasingly terrified (https://nl.nytimes.com/f/newsletter/to4TQThTm8NJCYDxBThdVg~~/AAAAAQA~/RgRi9CORP0TiaHR0cHM6Ly93d3cubnl0aW1lcy5jb20vMjAyMS 8wOC8wOS91cy9oaWdoLXJpc2stY2hpbGRyZW4tY292aWQuaHRt bD9jYW1wYWlnbl9pZD0xNTQmZW1jPWVkaXRfY2JfMjAyMTA4MD kmaW5zdGFuY2VfaWQ9Mzc1MTImbmw9Y29yb25hdmlydXMtYnJp ZWZpbmcmcmVnaV9pZD04MDgyMTc5NyZzZWdtZW50X2lkPTY1Nz k0JnRlPTEmdXNlcl9pZD05OTJkNjA4MjE0YjUwNTAwM2FhMDRi ZjEwYTU5NTAzMVcDbnl0QgphEZGeEWFmUoBYUhNkYXJub2NuZW xAZ21haWwuY29tWAQAAAAA). A growing number are sharing their stories online, accompanied by desperate cries for people to get vaccinated.
“We’re just pleading, begging people to get vaccinated and wear their mask for the sake of our children,”
said Elena Hung, of Silver Spring, Md., whose daughter Xiomara, 7, has heart issues and chronic lung and kidney disease and breathes through a tracheotomy.
Many parents say they are angry and exhausted from trying to keep their children safe while balancing the emotional trauma of more than a year of isolation — with no end in sight.
“There literally are not words for the frustration but also the fury that I feel that this has gone on as long as it has,” said Alison Chandra, whose high-risk 7-year-old recently tested positive.
“It didn’t have to be this way. It didn’t.”

Yeah, but the deaths aren't what they were in previous waves.
Not only vaccines. Treatments are key.
Now they know how to treat this and know which drugs and at what point they are most efficient. Id say just by treatment improvements we reduced deaths by 3x at least.
Vacvines. Hopefully they help to that extent as well at least. Vaccines are not the silver bullet but just another good weapon vs this.

Its a different time. We know this virus for one year already and how to treat it. Last year we had no clue, also no vaccines to protect the weak.
Also kids have been locked at home for 1 year and a half already. Noone expected it to be this long. Time to make some tough choices and maybe risk a little more to let the kids be kids.
I know my nephews have been great but something is missing. They need to go back to school. We have treatments and vaccines to try to get this done.
Im not claiming this back to school in the fall will be a success but its worth a try.

Fauci certainly didn't tell Trump that you can drink clorox, or push hydrocloroxine or shine UV light on your guts and whatever other mendacious things manchild was broadcasting as the miracle cures for COVID.
One thing is bad advice, another thing is not take the advice and spew bullshit instead. Again, you can keep pretending Fauci wasn't caught doing a facepalm right next to the big loser, but everyone saw it.
Whether Old Joe ends up with the same body count or not the fact is that Joe and Fauci pushed for vaccinations and adapted to the changing situations, while big dummies like DeathSantis and Hotwheels kept pandering to idiots and padding the death count.
Most of the deaths Joe will have in his ledger are going to be from unvaccinated people while a vaccine was available, which says more about the state of America than anything else.

Support for 'desperate' DeSantis sinks as COVID death toll surpasses his election margin of victory
"DeSantis was elected governor in 2018 with
a margin of victory of just 0.4 percent, or 32,000 votes.
Florida's official COVID death count is now 39,695 (http://ww11.doh.state.fl.us/comm/_partners/covid19_report_archive/covid19-data/covid19_data_latest.pdf),
, "If you vote in Broward, you chose nine school board members to run schools, not DeSantis.
He got less than 32% of the vote in Broward in the 2018 election.
He's governor, not an emperor.
School board members are accountable to local voters.
Let them decide how to keep our schools safe."

Let’s see. More than 450,000 people went to Sturgis. In the end, fewer than 0.1% of them got COVID. So, no. Millions did not die. It was fine. But Tony Fauci did not change his guidance. He isn't deterred by his own bigotry and stupid predictions.
CDC looked at one study, and that study specifically said there was a vast undercount, because they couldn't/didn't even test a significant number of people.

Trump !
Provably, sadly, wrong.
Whoever told you that was either lying or ignorant, and you, respectfully, have a hard time telling the difference when you are told things.
In 2020, approximately 3,358,814 deaths occurred in the United States (Table).
The age-adjusted rate was 828.7 deaths per 100,000 population, an increase of 15.9% from 715.2 in 2019.
The highest overall numbers of deaths occurred during the weeks ending April 11, 2020, (78,917) and December 26, 2020 (80,656) (Figure 1). Death rates were lowest among persons aged 5–14 years (13.6) and highest among persons aged ≥85 years (15,007.4); age-adjusted death rates were higher among males (990.5) than among females (689.2).
https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/70/wr/mm7014e1.htm

I provided link to Fauci interviews on travel restrictions earlier. All you have to do is listen to his own words. Doubt it will help you since you still think the vaccines are sterilizing and prevent infection.

https://www.kff.org/policy-watch/covid-19-vaccine-breakthrough-cases-data-from-the-states/
A more accurate picture would be April 19th when all US adults were eligible for the vaccine until present.
On July 16, 2021, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky revealed that 99.5% of recent U.S. deaths (https://news.yahoo.com/cdc-99-5-covid-19-162125960.html) from COVID-19 were of unvaccinated people. “Those deaths were preventable with a simple, safe shot,” she said. In Early July, Fauci said that 99.2% of people who died recently were unvaccinated (https://www.npr.org/2021/07/16/1017002907/u-s-covid-deaths-are-rising-again-experts-call-it-a-pandemic-of-the-unvaccinated). In the state of Maryland, every patient who died from COVID-19 in June was unvaccinated (https://www.baltimoresun.com/coronavirus/bs-md-unvaccinated-coronavirus-deaths-maryland-june-20210707-7zugtntgifg4pomlrjy4lmjhnq-story.html).
In her July 16 statement, Walensky also said that 97% of current COVID-19 hospitalizations are of unvaccinated people. An earlier analysis done by The Associated Press found that 98.9% of all hospitalized COVID-19 patients in May were unvaccinated (https://apnews.com/article/coronavirus-pandemic-health-941fcf43d9731c76c16e7354f5d5e187). The director of the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services recently stated that all new hospitalized COVID-19 patients in Los Angeles were unvaccinated (https://abc7.com/unvaccinated-covid19-los-angeles-county-hospitalizations/10887037/).
It is hard to find data about overall cases among unvaccinated compared with vaccinated individuals. This results partly from the CDC’s transition in May 2021 to focusing on hospitalizations of COVID-19 vaccine recipients rather than cases. But one way to get at this data is to compare two states with large differences in vaccination rates. As the delta variant of SARS-CoV-2 surges across the U.S., one can observe the consequences of this split into a vaccinated and unvaccinated America in real time.
In the state of Missouri, only 40% of people are vaccinated. In some counties within Missouri, as few as 14.7% of the residents are vaccinated. Not surprisingly, the state has seen a surge in COVID-19 cases through the middle of July, with 2,000 to 3,000 new cases per day. The rate of spread is also increasing. Already, some hospitals are running out of ventilators and intensive care beds.
Contrast this with Massachusetts, where 63% of people are fully vaccinated. Though the state is also seeing an increase in cases, total new infections numbered only around 200 to 300 per day. The number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in Massachusetts is also down 95% since January 2021.
As of July 20, 2021, Missouri had 1,357 patients hospitalized with COVID-19, almost 13 times more than the 106 patients in Massachusetts. This is despite Missouri’s having a slightly smaller population that is much more dispersed.
